I've been to the store two separate visit and both time everyone's been very friendly and helpful. I would say, especially in the fish department, the gentleman help me is very informative, patient, and helpful. The store is also very well stocked with things that cannot be found in many other fish shops. From from supply/fish contents/stock availability it's already a great store. Store sold me sick fish soon after removing a "sick fish" sign. I didn't quarantine because that tank is still cycling. Didn't think to put in some other container. Contracted ich which killed 11 green neon tetras and the two rummy nose fish I bought from them. Ich isn't gone from a tank just because the spots on the fish disappeared I later learned. Store should have continued treating tank and cleaning gravel of parasite babies for a few weeks. On another occasion I observed an employee dumping a customer's tank water into their tanks. I will not buy any live goods from this store every again. Not the first time I lost fish either. Nice people but beware! read more

There are a few things I'd like to comment on regarding Sierra Fish & Pets. To start, when I went to check out on my first visit there were 3 associates (one older woman, and two younger men) who were standing around talking directly next to the register. Not a single one acknowledged my presence while I was standing there with items to check out. I just chalked it up to them discussing work-related things, however it took me asking them to help me before one of the guys rang me up, even though they could clearly see me standing at the register and they had seen me place my items on the counter. Additionally, the guy who checked me out barely said a single word to me. He just rang up my items and said the total. I'm not asking for a full convo but some pleasantries would be appreciated. I came in a second time to ask a question and purchase a few more items. However, the guy working the register was rude, disinterested and ultimately seemed annoyed that I was even asking a question.. Additionally, the store is unorganized, has an unclean smell, and the aqua section was in disarray disaster with hoses cross crossing the floors and posing a trip hazard. I hope they make some changes as I really thought the store was pretty cool overall, but the way I was treated each time I came in left me feeling upset and unsatisfied. read more

NEVER COMING BACK to this store. After coming here to purchase black worms, I decided to take a look around to see what else they had. There were cats in small cages, their crickets were stored in storage bins and just laying on the floor. The meal worms weren't in the fridge and more than half of them were morphing into beetles. I looked at the axolotls and there were about 10 juveniles inside a small 10 gallon with their gills and feet nipped off. There were about a dozen birds in each case and there were feathers and bird poop everywhere. I just felt ver uncomfortable inside this store. The employees were nice, but just the disarray of items and animals everywhere made me feel so bad for them. The quality of black worms I received was very poor and highly overpriced. When I took the bag from the employee, there were leeches within the clump of black worms and the water was incredibly cloudy. For $9, I could have gotten three bags of black worms at a different pet store than a tiny meagre bag. Overall, this place gives me bad vibes and I will never be returning due to the poor atmosphere and quality of products. UPDATE: It seems that the owner has decided to accuse and call out false reviews to deem it as unfactual in stead of improving his own business. This is poor and unethical business practice as I was simply describing what I saw. It is not only my reviews that he as addressed as false, but other negative reviews. Our favorite local pet store! They got a great selection of pet supplies and a super knowledgeable and friendly staff! My fiancé loves to shop here while I do grocery runs at Uwajimaya (across the street). We come here mostly for fish & fish tank supplies, but they have TONS of stuff. The Whole back end of the store is dedicated to fish and aquarium supplies. Also if your fish are not doing well, they take donations and you can always ask the staff for their advice. Our most recent purchase here was a BUNCH of lava rocks & dragon stone. Forgot to mention an adorable selection of fuzzy friends to pet and awww over. I love to look at the bunnies and sometimes they have cats for sale on occasion. During the summer times they run specials with Ginger's pet rescue and have a bunch of cute pups ready for adoption! If fuzzy cute animals are not your thing, they also have a reptile section and LIVE crickets. Now that we have a pup of our own, we love to come here for their selection of treats and toys! They have Kong items, cute doggie apparel, dog beds, treats, leases, collars and much much more. We love bringing little Koda in and letting him smell all the smells haha Lastly, they take FIVESTARS so load your number and start collecting points! read more

My kids and I are doing research on axolotls and related needs, with the goal of eventually getting one. My son walked in with a clipboard and his notes, and we were clearly not just perusing...and also clearly first-time visitors, unsure of where to go. There were two employees behind the register and two others near the entryway, but none of them looked at us or greeted us. We looked at the rabbits and Guinea pigs near the entrance, but even during those few minutes, none of the employees acknowledged us. We made our way back to the aquarium area where two other employees were working. There were five of us walking around, talking about axolotls, yet were still ignored. We were in the store for about 20 minutes and though we walked past the register and other employees multiple times, it's as if we were invisible. Customer service is incredibly important to me, so that's why I'm giving this place three stars. Service aside, this store is well-stocked with all you need for a new or existing pet. We were really impressed with their selections, especially compared to other pet stores we've been in. We were excited to see quite a few axolotls (though one was upside down and floating near the top of its container). We'll likely return to buy an axolotl, but we'll take our business elsewhere to buy the rest of the things. This is one of the best pet stores in King County. Many selections of pets and supplies with friendly staff.

I have gone into this store on a somewhat regular basis this past year because I got into keeping aquariums, with my main focus on the aquariums being the plants. Their staff is a mixed bag. Some people are really knowledgeable and open to talking. Some of them...I'll turn around and wander uwajimaya instead of being around them. Their plant selection is "decent". There isn't a lot of information for people who are learning (like I have been this past year), but there is a good variety of stem v. potted plants. The stem plants have a very general care label written on the tank glass which, sometimes is accurate-ish, and sometimes isn't really. I don't think I've seen any carpeting plant pots--but, that's a make a trip to Aquarium Co-op in Edmonds type of thing as opposed to kill an hour browsing locally thing. I have seen some more specialized plants from time to time at a good-ish price, but not a good enough price for me to focus more on going to this store by default over Midway for the following reasons: *fish loss. When I've bought fish here, some have immediately died. They have a 7 day return policy, which I got 100% of the details of when I bought my betta, but Im not spending more on gas than I spent on a couple dead guppies or some nerites. Expect to lose some of the fish you buy from this place. *poor health. I was perusing one day and met a betta that I kinda vibed with. But he was incredibly emaciated. So, before I bought him, I got a thorough breakdown of the stores return policy. There was not a lot, or really any, care shown when my new friend was bagged up--he was unceremoniously dumped into a bag...which I did not really appreciate. Anyway...he's doing great now having been with me for 3 months. Put on weight and is incredibly active and inquisitive. But he was very skinny and not cared for in anyway at the store. *dead animals (not JUST fish) in enclosures. This place typically has multiple tanks with dead fish in them--and I have never bought fish from the tanks with dead fish in them but still experienced significant fish loss from them. But the thing that puts this store into a category that makes me avoid going here is the number of times I have come in and seen dead animals in their other animal enclosures. Typically, I'll come into a store with 3 kids and another adult in tow. As I wander off to look at fish and plants, everyone else scatters to look at their interest of the moment. If something is dead, one of the four is going to drag me over to show me. Which sucks. --Side note: I was in conversation with one of the employees about a pair of apistogramma that bred while under my care, and eventually, I'll be looking to rehome them once they've grown up enough. I was told that, depending on the species, the store would give up to 30% of the sale back, but the fish need to be a minimum for 2". Which, is a decent enough arrangement...but...I decided against bringing my fry here based on the care of the animals I've seen already in the store. I was not planning to breed my fish, but--since they did what apistogrammas do, I'm responsible for their care...and this isn't a responsible place to hand them off to in my opinion. read more

We started our fish keeping hobbies & we've been wanting to get pea puffers for a while & luckily this business got back to us so fast, and let us know that the fish were in stock. They're the cutest little things! The parking here could vary depending on the time of the day, but we had no issues. Upon walking it were greeted by a cute kitty & bunnies! They are stocked with the cutest animals! Including rats and snakes. If you are looking for a certain fish, or aquatic plant, they have it all! They are also super friendly. Love to support local! This establishment sold me over a year old expired pollock fish oil. Unfortunately i didn't catch it until 9 days after I've been giving it to my poor baby. She threw up twice the first time i gave it to her and stopped touching her food. She's been on pollock fish oil and her kibble for months so i didn't think anything of it. I went back to return it and the incompetent of a manager showed no remorse for making my poor pup sick. I had also purchased bully sticks from here and not feeling comfortable giving my baby their products i wanted a refund on it too and she had the audacity to say she can't do that (along with her dumb excuse) and i corrected her by saying other pet establishments can why can't you. She then shoved the money into my hands so rudely. I'm truly shocked that this store is still open and how customers would want to purchase things from a unorganized, DUSTY establishment with expired items. EDIT (after owners response): I felt the need to give a yelp review even after the refund because the manager was INCOMPETENT and rude and if possible i would've given them 0 stars. Not to mention the refund does not change what my poor dog went through because there was no system to remove expired items off their shelves. read more

I have going into this store on a regular basis to buy fish food for over a decade. This store is out of my way, but I want to support a local business and this is the closest fish store to me. Their staff is a mixed bag and usually for the worse. Yesterday was for the worse, young Asian guy said that he would help me on the on the other register, no other greeting, rang up my purchase, handed me the receipt. (Again, no other interaction) No thank you, can I wrap your frozen fish food (they usually always ask this), no would you like a bag? Nothing. Just ignored me and went back to talking to his co worker. There is an older female who works there, not sure if she is the manager or what her title is but she is awesome and has great customer service. I am grateful when I walk up to the register and she is working. Aside from her, the rest of the employees are rude and not interested in being there. read more

Just wanted to update this since the owner decided to reply. His reply did not address the issue of the sick fish. I bought six from this location and within less than 48 hours all six of them were dead. He did not mention following up about the quality of the stock or cleanliness of the tanks there. Sorry for your loss at 6$ a fish and having all Six die? No thanks And before he can come back n here claiming it was water quality, let me just let you know that a few days after all six of their fish had died I did a water change and bought 6 of the same breed of fish from a different store, none died. I use to live up the hill from here and would come here for all my fish. Everytime I tried PetSmart their fish would die quickly. I had a 30 gallon tank and we got so many fish here. We ended up having alot of guppie baby fish and for about 3 months I was donating the babies to them. We had so many fish and not a big enough tank. We bought plants here too. While this is my closest non-chain pet supplies store, it certainly isn't my first choice. About 70% of the time they are out of stock with crickets and fruit flies, not to mention the smell coming from the crickets when they do have them. yuck. The place is very crowded and hard to navigate. The reptile area is especially cramped and some displays are literally on the ground making it impossible to see what's in the enclosures. I think the only section that is cared for is the aquatics, which looks decent from someone who doesn't keep fish. This place needs to be cleaned up, updated and revamped. read more

Yesterday, my little boy and I decided to get a small aquarium, so I googled and found this shop. Knowing they were closing in 15 mins, we still came in to get an idea what we could get and maybe come back the next day. I'm so glad we walked in and met with Steve. I just explained that we wanted a small aquarium and that we had no clue what to get. Steve quickly walked us through what we could do, and after 30 mins, we walked out with a complete set. We got home and in an hour, we got our aquarium up and running. Steve is very knowledgeable and was very patient to us. We asked so many silly questions switched our options a few times, but he took time to accommodate although they were technically close. I insisted on getting a couple of fish to start and experiment, he recommended against that but still picked out the best option we could have (because I insisted). My little boy was not behaving at all at the store, but they were very understanding. I was embarrassed by my son's behavior, and at the same time, I really appreciate them not showing attitudes or anything. This is gonna be my new favorite place to stop by. In fact, I'm coming back later today to find some accessories and look for an upgrade to bigger tank soon. Thanks Steve for helping us with our first tank. read more

I have been shopping at Sierra Fish & Pets for at least ten years. I went there today to buy crickets for my pet gecko, around 3:30 pm, which I purchase there about once a week. There is normally a friendly helpful young person to help me with crickets but today there was none of the young staff to be seen. The store owner ???refused to call someone to help me. Instead, he rudely told me that there was no one available to help me so I would just have to wait until he was available. (He has never helped me on the past). He helped several other customers on both registers with large fish and accessory orders before he finally got back to me. I had to wait for at 10 to 15 minutes; I felt like he was intentionally making me wait just because I had asked him if there was someone else who could help me. I have NEVER been show so much disrespect. Very poor customer service! There are many other pet stores around that offer superior service; I won't be back! I'm new to aquariums and my only experience are Petco stores in Seattle, Bellevue, Federal Way, etc. Sierra is a more specialized store so they just have better selection, more informed staff, less issues with stock and staffing. The employees were nice and happy but I'm concerned about the state of the small animals. The bird and small mammal cages were very cluttered, over capacity and dirty. Many cages looked like they hadn't been cleaned out in a long time, the glass had a grime to it. There were a lot of mice in one cage and some looked really young and I'm wondering if they're reproducing in the cage, I'm not sure if that's pet store standard but I'm used to chain stores that only have one sex of animal in a cage. Typical "mom and pop" type pet store with terrible customer service and poor attitudes. Animals (especially the birds and fish) are usually in poor conditions. Birds water dishes haven't been changed out in days and a lot of them have hack jobs for clipped wings. The aquatics/fish section is a joke. Always sick or MULTIPLE dead bodies in the most of the tanks which *****hi management, it doesn't take more than 10min to scout for dead bodies and pull them before opening the doors every morning***** The tanks are in such poor shape as far as algae and scratches too that it's difficult to even see what fish are in the tanks and try to read the chicken scratch on the glass for labeling. Last part of bad/good news is the staff have no clue what they stock in the tanks. Bad news if you are looking for a specific species and good news if you can get them to catch you a rarer species and charge you for another one of the labeled fish on the tank hahaha (they don't know any better so take advantage of them). Lastly, most of the staff here are incredibly rude and/or not interested in greeting you when you walk in or providing any customer service. There are a couple of exceptions like a couple of the guys in the fish department (Caucasian guy with bald head and caucasian guy with longer dark blonde hair, ask for them they are always ready and willing to help). Big guy with dark hair and a beard (who I believe to be the owner of the shop) literally said nothing in terms of "hello!" or "welcome in!" upon entry multiple times that I've been there which is shocking and frankly kind of humerus for a business and owner to not do. All and all, a step above for Petco and Petsmart but if you are willing to drive a bit, there are much better all around shops in the Seattle area and more north. Make sure you quarantine any animals bought from here and be sure to take them up on all of their warranties. Lastly, make sure you go in with a list and or have an idea of what you're looking for because good luck trying to have someone help you here. read more

Overall I like the store, however; Staff here are a bit hit or miss, I've had wonderful interactions and advice and then the next time been helped by some stoner kid who didn't seem to know what day it is but happily chatting to other staff about tiktok while I'm waiting right next to him to find out where he put my fish. I know now though to wait for the right person in order to get helped. My biggest gripe is that so many of the fish I've bought here on multiple occasions have just died within a day or two, I've quarantined, medicated, watched like a hawk and still lose a good 70-80% of the stock. Sometimes this happens, the fish is just too stressed out was sick etc but it's become a theme at this point. My fish from other stores or locals do a lot better and seem to be a lot more hardy for some reason. As such I'll stick to buying plants from here from now on when I'm in the area. read more

I've never been brave enough to buy fish from this place as nearly every time I've come in, at least 1/4 of the tanks are sick, usually it's ich. I love this shop, always full of friendly staff and they have a great selection of fish and supplies. DONT BUY FISH HERE!!! I went to this store to see if they had driftwood for a new tank I'm aquascaping (and also to see what types of fish they had). While they do have lots of cool fish, upon glancing in the tanks I could tell a large majority of the fish were sick!! Walked past an entire tank filled with beautiful fish... nearly all of them had ich. Wish I took a picture to share. On top of the sick fish, it was disorganized, cluttered, and WAY overpriced. They do indeed have lots of driftwood, but you'll break the bank trying to decorate anything larger than a 5 gallon tank (assuming you can even find a piece that small). read more

I was called around to the other register as the next in line, she however was completely unaware. Proceeded to speak rudely to me as I informed I was next in line. Just complete bullshit. Emi was great! He was knowledgeable about the Russian Tortoises. He was helpful. He even wrote a list of food and when to feed. When to turn off the light. What to buy. What's not necessary too. (There were some who were rough and just dropped the tortoise in the terrarium). But Emi was opposite and a pleasure to talk too. He should get a pay raise for his work. Definitely recommend him and the pets they have are limited as the space isn't very big but they had rabbits, ginuea pigs, birds, mice, tortoises, geckos and fish. They might have a few more species. They're open until 7pm most days too so the hours are very convenient. I recommend this location. read more

****CAREFUL, THEY SOLD US A SICK ANIMAL**** They sold us a sick "broken" sand boa snake. My daughter got a snake from here for her 12th birthday back in the beginning of June. After her father purchased the snake, he was told to feed the snake in two weeks, on that following Tuesday or Thursday. The snake refused to eat!! No big deal right? I reached out to them and let them know what was going on and that the snake was also shedding and I was told that this may play a part in why the snake refuse to eat and not to worry. They recommended a few methods of feeding him one was putting him in a circular Tupperware container and allowing him to bump into the mouse(pinky). I attempted that, that didn't work. Another month went by and by this time I had bought 45 pinkies and made several attempts to feed the snake by putting him in a circular container and allowing him to bump into the pinky. After talking to one of the guys he told us that if the snake is shedding this is going to play a huge part in his lack of wanting to eat and not to worry unless another month went by. The snake still refused to eat in August. So in the middle of August, I contacted them again and spoke to a guy by the name of Jackson and I asked if there's anything else that we could do to encourage the snake to eat or what other food options did we have and I was told that the snake could eat wax worms. I bought a container of them. Went home put the snake in a circular container and dropped a few wax worms in there and he still has refused to eat. So here we are in September, and after several phone calls in purchasing 10 to 12 pinkies and a container of wax worms, the snake still has not eaten and we're just preparing for him to die. I've called this company several times and not one time has anyone recommended replacing the snake or suggesting us come in and get another one considering the snake was $150 and that I've been calling since we had the snake less than two weeks. I know that they are not responsible for the snake not eating but after a customer has called multiple times about a product that you sold us and have been aware from the beginning. read more

A great little pet store full of neat fish and things to get for your pets. I came to look at fish specifically and was impressed by the knowledge that the staff that was helping me had about how big of tanks that the fish would do best in and what temps would do best also. It made me feel like they really did care about the pets that they sell and were trying to look out for their best interest. I was also super happy to find the cat food that my kitties love in a specific flavor that seems to sell out a lot in bigger pet stores. This place will become a nice go-to when I cant find something and maybe a go-to when im at Uwajimaya just to keep some on hand. read more

I like how this is a smaller pet store, straight to the point if there's something specific you're looking for. But they are a smaller business so there might not be every brand or variety for everything. I love the dog adoption days though, I'm an advocate for rescues and the organization that comes here is Ginger's Pet Rescue which I've noticed that they usually have smaller dogs out for those that are considering to adopt, but does not have the space for a bigger dog. I think they specialize in their fishes or tanks or something. My old manager would drive out of his way to this specific store pass all the closer ones to his area because he likes this store and said they sell stuff that the chain pet stores don't, not sure what it was though. I wish I had come to this store initially, when I decided to get my son a fish tank. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Even told me ways to save money, which products were worth the money and which weren't. I'll be coming back for all my tank needs! *Also, if I had more money to put into a really cool tank, they have some unique fish I haven't seen at other local stores.
