I promise you will not find a kinder person on the planet. I just got back from a half day mule ride up the Paiute pass. It was all I could have asked for and more. We rode mules and the two guides (Mackenzie and George) rode horses. The ride was a great pace to see the beautiful wild flowers blooming, the stream cruising by and the wind whisping the trees. I really don't think there is a better attraction than riding mules or horses through the high country. Call ahead of your trip and make reservations, it's worth it. I can only praise Bishop Pack Outfitters, and really hope to take another ride soon.

This was our backup plan since Sabrina campground was full. It's still a very lovely campground as…read morethe sites were surrounded by a river and lake. The lake itself you can't swim in according to the rangers due to the power utilities stuff that are there. You can fish can canoe though. There's two areas to this campground, upper and lower. We originally headed down to lower Intake 2, those sites were nestled right next to the river, but we found another one at upper intake that was well shaded and it was more secluded. We later found out there was also an easy access to the river over the hill for shower rinsing needs. The cost was $24.00 a night and $7.00 extra flat fee for an extra car coming out to $55.00 for two nights. The paid parking area only fit about 4-5 cars at best or else you'll have to try your luck at the first come, first serve parking lot (that's right next to paid parking lot). There were two restroom buildings, the farther one was vaulted (no sink) and had recycling bins right outside. The one closer to our site had running water (had a sink and drinking water fountain) and flushable toilets. For a first timer camper, I definitely really liked this campsite a lot, it was close to the hiking trails that we wanted to do as well.

We absolutely SCORED by pulling into this campground. We initially wanted to stay at Big Pine…read moreCreek, but they had less first come first served sites. It'll always be a gamble, so if you're planning to camp for the weekend, come EARLY to try and net a site. I stayed in site #2, which is stupidly large in comparison to the other sites. There are spots for 2 cars, and we even had our own private trail leading to a babbling river. There is potable water, clean bathrooms, and even a few deer sightings! For $23 a night, we were living large. If you forgot anything, there is a market by Glacier Lodge a mile up the road selling the essentials (and apparently, BBQ on Saturdays). However, it was our camp hosts, David and Takota, who really made the stay special. David gave us a personal tour of the grounds, and we got to see his "Twisted Forest," his crystal collection, and he pointed us towards some natural hot springs! We even got his mixtape...aka CDs of the local radio show he hosts...that proved to be awesome to listen to on the drive down. Takota is David's very cute giant dog pal. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back in the Fall season to witness the color change!

The camp host's Sandy, Joe and Miss Lulu are the sweetest people ever! The visitor center is full of wonderful information about geological, ecology and cultural history of Mono Lake and its surroundings. The Rangers working in the visitor center are extremely friendly and helpful. You can easily spend a couple of hours in there and not even feel the passing of time! The view from the back yard of the visitor center is great. If you step outside with a camera I am sure it will be clicking fast! If you are into hiking or photography, ask the rangers for a map of the area and their recommendations for best photo opportunity spots.

The Mono Basin Visitor Center is the go-to spot to learn more about this amazing part of the state…read moreand its unique wildlife and history. I was on an epic trip through the area (stop over at the county park to the north of here for a secluded boardwalk into the lake) in the late summer and made this a destination. The views of the lake from here are outstanding, on a clear day you can see across the entire lake. I love the extensive displays available to learn about the geology, hydrology, geography and life of the lake. Watch out for the giant brine shrimp display, that isn freaked me out. The location is easy to find and the turnoff from the highway is easy to use (can get hairy in this part of the state crossing highways). I loved all the great native plant and stone displays around the center. This allows you to learn about the area even when it is closed. I liked the extensive info on the plantings and the different strategies they have adapted to live here. There are also a few info boards near the parking lot that go over the same stuff as inside. I did not take any hikes form here due to the hill it is on (who want's to walk back up?). Try other trails in the area, such as that near the south shore tufa. The staff are very helpful, answering any esoteric questions you may have to the best of their ability. Very nice gift shop as well, got my Mono Lake postcards here. Minus one star for an off-topic ranger talk, which instead of being about the hydrology of the area was all about climate change and guilt-tripping everyone. I don't need your proselytizing about my behavior if you don't see anything wrong with what I'm doing here at the center, what I need is natural history information to better understand this area. I left 20 mins into the talk after waiting around for an hour for it to start. Boo that! Anytime you would like to know more about Mono Lake, head over to the Basin Visitor Center for an extensive education and mostly friendly staff.

Do not be discouraged of its distance away from the 395 and Bishop, although it is located at high elevation and in the Eastern Sierra mountain range, the road is well paved, wide, and easy to traverse in most vehicles. The campsites along the creek are beautiful, and offer much shade which is helpful in the daytime. The creek is beautiful and well flowing, offering a serene sleeping experience. The surrounding Bishop Creek looks great for fishing, but those fish don't bite anything. Camp Hosts were awesome and very friendly and welcoming.

Hello everyone! we went to Four Jeffery again this year. The last week in July and what great time…read more The weather was hot during the day and cool at night. The fishing was great! South lake was not so good. Maybe because the lake has been drained by SCE it is so low that it was just to warm to fish. However, everything else was good. The creek fishing was almost like cheating. Throw in and out comes a fish, really great. No generators to deal with this trip. The camp across from us did turn on a generator but turned it off when they finished using it. Much appreciated. I decided to take a hike this year up to Blue Lake, about 3 miles above Lake Sabrina on the John Muir Trail. The hike is great! your climbing up a thousand feet however and that's the drawback but its worth the hike. Really a spectacular ending to the hike when you reach Blue Lake. We didn't fish this trip we wanted to get a feel for the hike before we carried our gear to fish the lake. We saw Brown Trout the size of hatchery trout in the lake. We are definitely going back next year. I will relegate this review to the hike to Blue Lake as you can read my other reviews which there is not much to add other than the campground is starting to get "known" lots of campers this time. I had to advise campers who were fishing at the creek behind our campsite to go around and not bring the dog and family through my campsite to get to the road. The hike on the John Muir Trail is good but not easy. The whole trail has been improved. the forest service has improved the trail with stepping stones and stone stairs. No problem staying on the trail. We met a lot of hikers coming both ways. I was kind of surprised to see people going up the trail late in the afternoon. The trail takes about 3 hours to get to Blue Lake and about 2 hours to get back to the trail head. Most of the people had not been on the trail before. I hope they brought some flashlights. Blue Lake is beautiful. When you get there you feel like you are the only person there and you are. The water is pristine, calm and crystal clear. I am very happy I made the hike with my son. Its an adventure we will remember for the rest of our lives. Its Gods country up there. Just immaculate! You are allowed to take the dog on the trail which we did. He pulled me along about half way up the trail. Then I had to encourage him the rest of the way. We took many breaks and ate lunch at one of the waterfalls on the trail. I took the lead as I am not in the best of shape and my son followed behind. I think my son could out run a mountain goat as he is in the best of shape, I kept him the back following behind just in case i had a heart attack. But we made it even though I huffed and puffed the whole way up. The altitude is from 9000 feet at the trail head and you climb to10000 feet, so acclimate before you decide to hike. We did and I was better off for it my son the stud probably didn't need to but he was a good guy and was patient. The camping trip was great again and I had a great time. No bears and the rodents were less than I had seen in the past. It did shower in the afternoon for a couple of days. Good food and great company and a another unforgettable family experience! Now, this comment is for those who do not camp regularly. Do not cross through another campers campsite. It is not only rude, you may be attacked by the campsite dog. Walk around. There is always a way around a campsite. Keep your dog on a leash. I had a big brown dog come into my campsite twice. At which point I had to ask the camp host to advise the campers to control their dog. Dogs are one of Gods greatest gifts, but keep them out of other campers campsites. If my dog had seen that brown dog he would have tried to protect us. And that would have been anything but good. Okay, Four Jeffery is a jewel in the Eastern Sierras.
