I have hired Sierra Sun for a few projects now with no complaints. Jack (the owner) is a sweetheart. The notable thing about Jack is, he is fair and has a conscience. And his crew is exceptional. I have rarely seen people work so hard. Our latest project with Jack was a turnout at the top of our driveway. Sierra Sun did all the grading and prep work, including a moss rock wall, before the asphalt went in. The result was beautiful and pricing was fair. He's also previously done some terracing work that involved the placement of mass rock walls. I always come away from Jack feeling like I'm dealing with an honest guy. read more

Once again we hired Sierra Sun Fence to install a black, no climb, wire fence across the front of our property ( a few acres) and a small area on one of the sides where the guys doing 'tree work' for the power lines dropped an old oak tree on the fence! The fence is tight, straight and reinforced. We are very pleased with the quality of work, the cost and especially the finished product. If you're looking for a company you can depend on, that has quality employees and is competitively priced, I suggest you call Jack and get him on your job. I noticed a couple of negative reviews and want to state that I was impressed with his workers, they cleaned up every day, I really liked that he has hired a woman on his crew to do this difficult job, his pricing and payment options, and the fact that many of this areas public land as well as private properties has Sun Fencing tags posted. read more

I have used Sierra Sun Fence three times. 2019, 2021, and now 2025. I have been happy with the job each time. Jack and his team put up 5 foot no climb horse fencing. The area enclosed was on the side of a hill so the job required grading to prevent gaps. His fence was straight, strong, he puts a top wire to keep the horses and falling branches from distorting the fencing. With the last job I did see some negative reviews that occured after my first two jobs, but I decided that I wanted my fencing to match and he did a good job the first time. He came out quickly to give me a bid, and got the job started within a week, and completed within 10 days from the bid. He listened to what I needed and worked hard to make sure I got what I wanted. read more

I hired Sierra Sun in 2018 & again in 2022. The first time was excellent, second time was a disaster. A $15k job dragged on from Feb to September unfinished. The owner Jack Genovese explained that he could not get good workers & indeed the great 2018 crew was gone in 2022. Jack revealed that his crew chief used drugs on the job, which accounted for the unfinished work & poor workmanship on a heavy redwood gate that failed within months & required retrofitting by a new guy who showed me that Jack's crew had used the wrong kind of screws (I think he said they were decking screws). Two guys would show up to work (without Jack) then stand around talking on their mobile phones doing nothing because (as they explained) they were waiting for Jack to show up & tell them what to do. Every day they left my property a mess with wood scraps, nails, paper, etc. on the ground; they even left their tools on the ground when they left for the day, including power tools! In Sept, I gave Jack an ultimatum: finish in 5 days or you're fired. He did not finish, & I fired him. MOST UNPROFESSIONAL He ILLEGALLY asked for 1/3 price of the job to start, 1/3 upon half completion, & 1/3 upon completion, which as it turns out (I did not know until later) IS PERCENT ILLEGAL because it violates CA law regulating excessive down payment. Unfortunately, by the time I fired him, I had paid him for all but the last $1000. I hired another guy to finish the job. I do not recommend Sierra Sun. We used Sierra Sun Fences (Jack G.) to install fencing in our backyard. The total area to fenced was about 40'x80'. Jack, and his crew, dug all of the footings for the posts by hand because of the rock soil in Alta Sierra. I prefer 4x4 posts to metal "T" posts, so they dug holes for 20 posts. They installed the posts and wire and we are very happy with the installation. The thing I appreciated the most about Jack was his communication. He kept me informed of when they were coming, and kept me informed when the fencing was delayed (supply chain issues). When the fencing was in stock, he immediately scheduled the install and completed the job. Out of the several companies that I called for bids, Jack was the only one that returned my call and gave me a very fair bid. read more

After doing extensive and research on who to contract fencing in 2 acres for us at our new home we purchased in Nevada City we chose to go with Sierra Sun Fences for the following reasons: 1) They came first when I inquired at the Penn Valley fencing store. the staff there all said they are the best. 2) They were significantly cheaper ($4,000 less) for what is an extremely expensive endeavor when you need a 7 foot deer fence put in. 3) the owner of the company (Jack Genovese) was very friendly, honest, confident, and timely in his communications 4) I had 6 other quotes, some of which said they couldn't even do it due to our steep terrain. The crew of around 7 people came and worked diligently for over a week. they were all tremendously competent and very pleasant folks. We feel so lucky to have chosen them and now have a very well constructed fence with driveway gates and pedestrian entrances in exact accordance with our vision. Fantastic work and a very reasonable price! Jack and his crew put in a small fence and replaced my gate posts. I thought replacing the gate posts and reattaching the gates would be difficult & expensive but it wasn't and they did an amazing job. The fence is very sturdy & looks great! I hired Jack to fence my property. He knew that keeping my dogs on the property was the main issue I was spending the money to have the work done 'professionally'. When he finished the large outer fence, my dogs immediately got out. When I complained, he did not want to deal with it as he said, "That is a nice tight fence!". Well, what good is a tight fence the dogs can get under. He then did fix the new fence with patches. I was not happy about this but it did work. I mean, I could have patched the old fence. He then proceeded to fence the inter area around the house. It seemed he was in quite a rush to get my job done. After he finished and left, I realized he had cut about a foot or more off the yard area. He did not pull an old post that was in the wrong spot he told me he was going to as I am sure this would have cost him time to set a NEW post. He instead, used this old post and compromised the size of my yard to get the job done. He did not say a word to me about this. VERY unprofessional. The whole time he was on my job he had his crew running to other jobs. Seemed these other jobs were much more important than mine. He, as well, did not ask where he and his crew could park their personal cars and leave the materials and equipment. As a result my field quite is tore up. I tried real hard to work with Jack but I heard he felt he did not charge enough for the job. I guess that was my fault! I think the thing that bothers me most is the lack of communication. The apparent lack of WANTING to communicate and work out the job 'issues' with me. If you do use this company, go over the particulars with a fine tooth comb and get it ALL in writing before hand. We give them 5 plus stars for our new beautiful 5ft no-climb with painted log posts and two gates !! choosing this color magically made the fence disappear on the property but when you look closely , you can see the pride of their work -- the excellent workmanship . They came here WHEN they said they would (obviously something that rarely happens these days) ... they worked hard- and were knowledgable about their work.... We have had ten acres in the past so we have done fencing and it takes sweat and skill to make it happen ! Thank you Sierra Fence for a well-done job ! It will be here long after we are because of the quality of work -- the diligence in doing a great job !! And not skimping on barbed staples !!! We could not be any happier ! Jack at Sierra Sun Fencing is an honest and reputable businessman. We had his company do two large fencing projects on our property and found him to be conscientious and extremely helpful with design suggestions. His crew was always on time and their work was excellent quality. I had requested a particular brand of fencing and, although he would have used it, he explained to me at great length why a different brand was superior. Our fencing was done 3 years ago and still looks brand new. Of course, we used hot wire standoff on the inside and top of the fence, so our animals don't go near it. We've found with all types of livestock fencing that this is necessary to maintain the integrity of the fence. I have recommended Jack to many of my friends and have heard nothing but high praise for his work. Use Jack-you won't be sorry! read more

Sierra Sun Fencing is a dishonest Company that over charges and if there is problem will not stand behind their work. I hired Sierra Sun Fencing to fence in my property. I was asked to put down a substantial deposit that I paid at the time of signing their contract. I requested all fencing be down to the ground level as I was having problems not only with the neighbors dogs getting into my horse pasture but also wild animals killing my chickens. During the fencing process I was repeatedly told that they needed more money even though I had already paid a substantial deposit. Ignorantly I gave them more money unfortunately as I desperately needed the fencing finished, however, this went on to the point that I paid for all fencing before they finished the job. Once I paid in full with the job incomplete Sierra Sun Fencing left for another job. I hounded them repeatedly to no avail. I finally got them to come back and finish the job. One issue unfinished was a gate that was to have no climb backing. When I checked this gate Sierra Sun Fencing had put bungie cords to attach the no climb fencing to the gate. During the next year I had several problems with the front gate they installed, this was the only issue they would come back on and fix. During months after installation the no climb fencing that they stated they knew how to attach to vinyl fencing was falling apart and animals were still getting under the fencing. I repeatedly called the owner for over a year asking for him to come out and fix the problem, however, he was always too busy. I am now left with fencing that is falling down after thousands of dollars I paid Sierra Sun Fencing along with realizing they either had no idea how to attach no climb to vinyl fencing or just used the cheapest way as they used flimsy stables and plastic to adhere the no climb fencing to the vinyl. Of course the stables and plastic are all coming apart and the no climb fencing was tap metal so that is also coming apart. It seems to me that any reputable fencing company knows how to attach no climb to vinyl and would not use cheap tap metal and charge for the higher grade. I had one section of my vinyl fencing that I had another fencing company come out and fix and they used screws with washers to attach the fencing with heavier no climb fencing and have not had a problem with this newer fencing. I paid less money for the better quality job!! Beware of Sierra Sun Fencing!! read more
