They both were defective. I assume they knew but kept selling because people wouldn't use it until they're home or even later. I bought 2 things of vape juice. I said I wanted no nicotine. They sold me one with 3mg of nicotine. It was hard to tell because they sell products from sketchy places, so the labels are very hard to read. It took some time, but I eventually figured out the nicotine and then I noticed the expiration dates. These items were 8 months expired. For something that goes into your lungs, expiration dates matter more than regular items. This is why they regulate vape shops and vape juice. They clearly buy from an unregulated source that makes bad and unsafe products. You would ask me, why would you go back? Well today I wanted some Hempire cones (I prefer them to Raws) and they were out. I noticed that most of what they had was king size. I specifically said I didn't want a king size cone. They're just too big for me. I bought two packages because she read the package and I believed she could read. I think she could read. I also think she had been instructed to sell products to customers who wouldn't recognize until they got home that they were the right product. Why? Because it's happened more than once to me. The vape juice, the cones. These are just the ones I can think of at the moment. But it happens almost every time I go there and they are the worst store you could shop at. That said, my husband's experience at Bethesda Tobacco in Bethesda earlier today was so bad that, well, I am compelled to warn others. He went in hoping to ask some straightforward questions about some items, and to then (hopefully) purchase a product. When he arrived, the store appeared empty, so he waited a few minutes. Eventually, an employee emerged from the back - holding a sandwich, mind you - and began talking to him while chewing. I cannot stress enough how unprofessional and off-putting this was. No greeting, no acknowledgment of the wait (or of my husband, really): just a mouth full of food, and an attitude of annoyance. My husband asked about options in the $30 price range, since many products were priced around $50. The employee's response was basically "nope" (with a mouth full of sandwich) - delivered with no explanation or alternative suggestions. It was obvious that customer service was not a priority. Things only got worse when my husband tried to clarify dosage versus price. There was a $10 product labeled as 200 mg, and a $55 product with the same dosage. When he asked about the difference, the employee "carelessly" admitted he didn't know, and proceeded to keep eating his sandwich. At that point, my husband just left the store; it was clear he was not going to get any helpful information. The very small silver lining: Bethesda Smoke Shop does carry a very wide selection of kratom and nicotine vapes. Unfortunately, product variety cannot make up for completely incompetent and disrespectful customer service. Being talked to with someone's mouth full of food, dismissed without answers, and ignored while standing in the store is utterly unacceptable. I would not recommend Bethesda Smoke Shop to anyone looking for knowledgeable staff, professional service, or even a basic level of courtesy: there are plenty of other stores where employees actually care about helping customers. 1 star - 0 stars, actually, but I don't think that's an option on here. And, it makes me sad to be honest: I was a regular there a few years back; the gentlemen working there all knew who I was, and would always help me out if I was short a few cents. *Deep Sigh* Looks like things have plummeted over there.

Extremely disappointing experience with Smoke Island on 11230 Georgia Avenue…read more My husband called around 11:00 PM on a Wednesday night - well within their posted hours (they advertise being open until 2:00 AM) - just to confirm they were open over Easter weekend. Despite calling during business hours, the person who answered was immediately rude and dismissive. It got even more uncomfortable when my husband asked about a few products. The man on the phone suddenly became suspicious and started speaking to him like he was a police officer or a narc, which was completely uncalled for and honestly quite off-putting. What makes it worse is that the exact products he asked about are clearly listed on their website for anyone to see. So, the attitude of the man speaking with my husband - and his defensiveness - made (and still makes) absolutely no sense. If you're going to advertise late hours, you should be prepared to speak to customers professionally during those hours. Customer service like this is a great way to lose business, and we won't ever be returning.

The first thing is that like many other smoke shops nowadays, this is not primarily a place catering to those who want cigars or pipe tobacco. That said, they have a bit, enough that I've purchased from there due to the convenient location. I'd rate them as better than most of their peers in this regard. The second is the clerks are friendly and helpful. I was surprised they recognized my wife and me the second time we went in. That is unusual. Or perhaps we are a distinctive couple. So if you are in upper NW DC and in need of what they offer, Smoke Island is a fine choice.
