I'm not very familiar with cigars, but my fiancé and his friends often visit Davidus Cigars lounge to enjoy a smoke. I have a furry baby,so I thought it would be a lovely idea to get a cigar for him. When I went to Davidus Cigars to find a special Father's Day gift from our furry little one, Peanut, I initially felt a bit unsure. Luckily, Shawn was incredibly helpful. They keep records of what men like to smoke, which I thought was a clever and thoughtful idea. Shawn's friendly attitude and knowledge really made the whole experience enjoyable, and I left feeling much more confident about cigars. Great employees, Great Cigars. However over the last 2 years the chairs in the lounge have greatly worn out. This week I asked someone in management about when we would be getting new chairs/cushions, and while given no specific date and time, I was told I could bring in my own cushion. That's no different than going to a restaurant and they tell you to bring your own clean plates to eat off of. Customer Service is what you serve to the customer. Lets not forget that. I have been going there few times and the locals who smoked in the lounge are friendly and generous to share their drinks. Good cigar selections! The mangers there are friendly and helpful. Those ppl who complain about thefts and being under watchful glaze are not being realistic. They have to watch out for thefts so what's your problem to give one or two stars?? Come on. Thefts are rampant in stores so just behave and buy cigars and shut up. It's a good store with good parking spots. I have spent a fair bit of money here over the years but haven't been for a little while because I kind of went on a buying spree and have been trying to burn through what I have. I got an email from them saying they were having an event for St. Patrick's Day and there was a t-shirt I wanted. (The picture said "Limited Edition Filthy Hooligan Shirts Available for Sale" -look in my pics.) So what the heck, I'll go in and get a cool shirt and maybe a cigar or two. Well, that didn't work out AT ALL. First, the people there were friendly and polite. Ok, the good part is over. I asked about the shirt and the guy kind of looked down his nose at me past the cigar he had in his mouth and said they were not for sale, they were part of the event. (Refer again to the picture.) I said oh, and asked about the "event". He showed me a couple cigars and followed me around the humidor, asked if he could help, followed me around the humidor (still holding the cigar in his mouth,) asked if I wanted suggestions, followed me around the humidor, offered to help, followed me around the humidor, followed me out the door to the front area, stood and watched me until I left. I believe the only thing that made him happy was me leaving so he could FINALLY go smoke that cigar. I suggest you do everyone a favor and just not go in so he doesn't have to wait for you to leave so he can do his thing. It is a nice shop with a good selection and friendly people. On the other hand, inmates spend their time with less supervision, so pick your poison. There are other shops you can go to and get a good selection AND be treated with respect. read more

I looked up "cigars" on yelp and this was one of the options. It wasn't far from my house so I thought I'd give it a try. I had a general idea of what I was looking for but was also open to suggestions. O was helped by Liam. He was super friendly and VERY knowledgeable. He checked my ID and took me into the humidifier room. I told him I liked perdomos and we started there. He also gave me some suggestions and explained different brands, wrappings and flavors. The room of cigars is a good size and they have everything from $5 cigars to $35+. I didn't look at everything. There is also a lounge in the back where you can smoke. Also there is a free rewards program so id sign up for that. He said there are 11 stores across the state of Maryland and you can get cash back. Ill go here again! read more

Good selection. Allegedly they follow everyone into the humidor to prevent theft. It's interesting bc the reality of people stealing out weighs the concept of good customer service. If you need a cigar and you want great customer service visit another cigar shop. If you want to be watched and followed into the humidor visit this store. Neither my husband nor I smoke...yet we have an unholy love for vintage tabacciana. Clearly because we're insane, but also because some of the mid-centure tobacco-wares are flipping beautiful. As most of our favorite tabacciana have been mid-century and/or art-deco era lighters and cigarette cases that we find at flea markets, we also have to put in some effort to clean and restore some of these items. Our most recent find was a silver cigarette case with a lighter insert, my husband and I headed over to Davidus Cigars to get some new wicks, lighter fluid, and new flints. The nice gentleman who was helping us at the counter seemed to realize immediately that we were trying to fix an old lighter, so he chatted with my husband briefly about options. I was looking at the empty cigar cases (they're so pretty!) that they had for sale at $3 each...and the nice guy told us that we could take one or two for free since we were buying so many things. Super nice! We even bought a package of slim filterless cigarettes for our lovely cigarette case. And yes, I realize that we're insane because we don't smoke and those cigarettes will just get stale...but hey, since we don't smoke anyways, stale cigarettes won't bother us. HA! read more

I just started getting into cigars and this place is great for the noob or for the cigar fanatic. The person was very helpful in teaching me the proper way to prep my humidor. I've gone there with friends looking to buy pipe or cigarette tobacco as well as cigars. My overall impression is that the staff varies wildly, from friendly to indifferent to downright rude. They seem relatively knowledgeable about cigars, but give my friends looking for cigarette tobacco (the roll your own variety) funny looks, as if it's not worth their time to make a $10 sale. They apparently also have weird stocking issues, my friend's favorite brand of rolling paper was out of stock for weeks, and certain varieties of cigarette tobacco had sat on the shelf for so long that they were bone dry. If you're looking for a present or an impulse-buy tobacco product, this place is fine, but nothing about it would make me want to come back on a regular basis. read more

I don't buy cigars often, but this is my first, and generally only stop when I want some. Whether it's just one for when I'm in the mood, or several for an occasion, they are always good at helping me pick from the massive selection. Generally if you have even a vague idea of what you like, and a price range, they'll pull up a few options for you. I've never had them try to upsell me or sneer when I want something inexpensive. In fact, the one time I had to buy a cutter there, the salesman (who I think was the owner or a manager) did apologize that what he suggested was more expensive, but frankly worth the money. He's not wrong, few bucks extra has given me a great cutter, as opposed to the cheap one that would've probably broken after a few uses. I haven't had occasion to use it, but they do have a smoking lounge complete with comfy chairs and wi-fi. I've been meaning to check that out for a while now. ~EEE~ read more

I really like Davidus, good price for pipes and pipe tobacco. I think that they have a good selection of cigars that are fairly priced as well. The people that work there are helpful and polite. I just started smoking pipes and I don't know much about different tobaccos, so instead of buying online I decided to go in and they did not disappoint! The staff (David and Scott) were extremely knowledgeable, honest and helpful. They have an amazing selection of products and a smoking lounge. The prices were very reasonable compared to online prices and they even gassed up my lighter for free. I bought small amounts of different kinds of tobacco for my pipe as sample and after I try those, I will definitely be going back. This is my new favorite store! read more

I am a longtime and frequent cigar aficionado. I stopped dropping into the Shady Grove and Rockville stores because of the apparent mgmt policy to shadow every customer as though they are going to steal a cigar. Ask if I need help - if not let me go about my business of selecting cigars without the sales guy acting like he's moving cigars around and watching me over his shoulder. I was made to feel very uncomfortable so I now go to non- Davidus shops and buy larger quantities on line. Mgmt would be better served by installing cameras and to have the staff monitor them. read more

This is my first ever yelp review and it was caused by rare customer service over and above the expected. Upon arriving at the Shady Grove store, I realized I had left my wallet at my office. The manager, Jennifer Trainor, offered to give me the cigars I needed, gave me the store's phone number, and told me to call her with a credit card when it was convenient. Its not every day you have a merchant that would display the trust she did and I was extremely grateful for saving me a round trip to get my wallet. Going to Davidus was such a affirming and positive experience that I am kind of finding smoking pipes a fortuitous move. Staff is very knowledgeable and eager to help.Pricing is superbly competitive and inventory is highly commendable. I have already established a rapport with senior staff L and P. Their friendliness and ease of helping me guide through was very highly appreciated. There is a loyal customer rewards program which will be very helpful to me as I consume copious amounts of tobacco every month. Over all experience that I had at their store was A ++++. It's so pleasurable to pen this review as I have bad experiences with one store in Lake forest and another in Virginia. I am delighted for their products and customer service. I ventured over to Davidus to purchase some cigars for my father for his birthday. My dad enjoys cigars, but he is certainly not an afficionado. I asked the man working for assistance in picking out a few highly rated cigars for my father to try. Not only was this employee downright rude with a horrible attitude, he refused to help me pick out cigars because I did not specifically know what my father preferred. I am hoping I just caught this particular employee on a bad day (he seemed to be pissed off at the world), but having been refused service for not being versed in cigars I will certainly NOT be returning. I have been to this place multiple times during visits to the area. They have a nice selection of cigars and decent pricing. The staff are never veey friendly especially on my last visit. I got there at 8:55. They still had the open sign on ans people smoking in the lounge but the door was locked and the guy wouldnt sell me a cigar. He said he already closed his register.
