Peter was in the area, and arranged to come within a couple hours. He was properly masked, had all of his tools, and went straight to work. Within 15 minutes he discovered the problem. The bad news was that the stove could not be fixed and would have to be replaced. Peter gave me some recommendations on new stoves to consider, which to avoid, and even which retailers to contact. He also alerted me about a couple installation issues I might encounter, given my countertop configuration. All really valuable advice. Peter is also a very pleasant guy, and is easy to talk to. He then very quickly got back to us with exact quotes for each of the two possible solutions, and advised of a multi-week back order for the main part. His financial arrangements are very straightforward and represent good value. In the end we decided to go with a new washer, but Alan really impressed us and we will have him as first choice for any other appliance issues we may face.
