When she needed a tooth pulled that abscessed after trauma, our gen dmd recommended finding someone nitrous-capable because her anxiety and breakdowns prevented even the simplest routine care. We heard of Dr Rob via word of mouth and I made the appointment. He was amazing. This man just knows how to talk to children, the type with a natural talent. Within three seconds of walking into the room he established a report with my child and she trusted him... I mean from tears to smiles within moments. I was so relieved. I'm pretty sure he would have been successful even without the nitrous. In any which case, she left so happy. When she required yet another appointment to replace one of the crowns previously placed under GA, she walked right into his office with no hesitation. It was, again, a wonderfully positive experience for her. His office is the only healthcare setting she doesn't get nervous in. He's also fairly easy to get an appointment with. Typically they'd schedule me pretty far out and I would ask to call if there were any sooner availability. To my shock, this office actually does call when there's cancellations! Both times, I received a call back and was seen within the week. So don't be deterred if you get scheduled out. Just make the appointment and wait for the call.

Now, try to find a dentist for a 70-year-old mentally-challenged man who has known the Collins practice for that long. The other had a couple cavities and the experience was a nightmare that they continue to talk about today 13 years later. Following a totally normal check up, at their next visit, they had three cavities. First, the doctor suggested I gave my child juice and candy all the time to create the problem - my child was not given either at this age. Second, she suggested that they did not know how to brush their teeth. Their father and I had been brushing them consistently because they were only five. My child was placed in essentially a medical straight jacket for the procedure, gassed and verbally bullied by the dentist while in the chair. When I saw what was happening, I told them they had had enough and it needed to stop. Understandably, my child developed a phobia regarding dentists as their early experiences were so traumatic. To make the situation worse, we transferred care to Brandywine Dental Associates and upon exam were told that my child did not have any cavities... I think what stood out to me the most about the experience was the tone that was taken with my two children. With one it was all Disney and happy and my other child was treated as though they had been a bad kid and made to feel ashamed for cavities that wound up not even existing...

Having limited insurance, I have not seen a dentist in years and it shows (broken teeth, cavities, missing crowns). This week, a crown broke off and that tooth gave sleep-robbing pain all night. I called Wahl when they opened in the morning; despite being a new patient, they welcomed me at the door within the hour. Susan, who answered my call, was there to greet me. We filled out paperwork and she let me know each potential procedure and cost estimates since she knew I was paying cash and couldn't afford anything major. This was done in an understanding, compassionate manner, not the "you better not stiff us, jerk" manner some care facilities utilize when they know you are uninsured. Dr. Peggy and her assistant got me settled in quickly. After a quick x-ray, my tooth was extracted. Dr. Peggy explained each step ahead of time, constantly made sure I was doing okay, and when I wasn't we stopped and made adjustments. Never once did she admonish me for the condition of my mouth. We solely focused on the issue at hand. Checkout was painless, where I was encouraged to look a little closer at my insurance and submit my info anyway to see if any of my appointment could be covered (I submitted this info via e-mail later in the day and received a reply promptly). Before I left, Susan came by with a card detailing the next few things we might want to do (standard checkup, complete x-rays) if and when I have the chance. She provided the cost for each as well, knowing that was a concern. The office is clean, professional, sincerely friendly, and truly caring. On their website, Dr. Wahl explains how his father took much effort to establish a practice that made a difference through their relationship with their patients. It shows. Let me start by saying that the staff and technicians are all wonderful and kind. My oldest child was here for 3+ years, and during that time his orthodontist left (Dr. O). We were never told about it and placed in the care of Dr. Fiss, whom we rarely saw at our visits during the third and final year of treatment. When we finally did see him and I asked him why there was such slow progress and when my child would be out of braces, he admitted that he would have done things differently than the previous doctor and blamed my child for not wearing rubber bands often enough (not completely true). He got very defensive with me. I told him that I have two younger children whom I was planning on bringing to his practice in the future, but this experience was very concerning. I thought knowing that he potentially had return business would make him more likely to do the right thing and complete my child's treatment. Guess what? He didn't care. The next week I received a CERTIFIED LETTER saying that he would no longer treat my son. I had paid in full for the treatment (within the first 2 years) and, clearly, he wasn't interested in finishing out the treatment since he was no longer getting paid for it. I was shocked and didn't even know that a doctor could do this. My son was left with braces on his teeth, treatment that wasn't finished, and Dr. Fiss had the nerve to write that he was proud of the work he'd done on my son's teeth, even though his smile wasn't perfect and his teeth weren't finished being corrected (his words). How is this even possible!?! In the letter, we were asked to return to their practice to get the braces removed. NO THANKS! I found Dr. Penna at Penna Orthodontics, who agreed to take my child on as a patient for a very nominal fee as my child's teeth were almost finished, and he completed treatment about 4 months later. Dr. Penna is amazing and sees my children at EVERY visit. Do yourself a favor and go to Dr. Penna. Dr. Fiss didn't care about my son, my family, and the "care" he did provide was, dare I say, harmful.

disclaimer: i haven't actually started my treatment plan (six months of invisalign) yet, so i can…read moreonly speak for my first impression. i came upon alpine and rafetto through invisalign's website--so i was thoroughly unprepared for the all-encompassing beach theme. i could see how a too-cool-for-school tween getting braces for the first time might find this childish, but as a 25-year-old paying for my teeth with my own money, i was delighted. walking into the office was like turning a corner at trader joe's and finding an orthodontics aisle. though all the staff were wearing normal scrubs, i strongly suspect that hawaiian shirts are not an uncommon sight. also like at trader joe's, everyone who helped me was very kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. i felt taken care of at every step of my invisalign consultation process.

After informing them of my predicament, they were able to schedule an additional appointment the same day as my initial consult! The staff was extremely friendly and there was little to no wait time from when I checked into the office. The dental hygienist did a great job removing the tea stains from my teeth.
