A surprisingly good amount of stuff on the menu including plant based. This place may be a dive, but it's better than it looks. A lot of history in this bar. It's known for the cheap ass happy hours. There's also the cheap ass weekly specials. Be sure to check out the list in the bathroom. It's $2 for whiskey on Wednesdays. Among the many cheap drinks. Burgers are most popular among the food options. The food menu also has a lot for vegans. It's $6 for the Impossible Chicken. This comes on a bun topped with lettuce, onions, and pickles. Has to be one of the places you go to when visiting this college town to check out the local flavor. It's on Illinois Avenue at Walnut Street. There's lots to get for meat eaters such as burgers, and there's also healthier options, including many things for vegans and vegetarians.

The cavernous interior of brick and concrete made it loud with even just a dozen patrons, so the somewhat timid bartender was very hard to hear. From talking to others, it seems this bar draws some its patrons from up to 40 miles away.

What I found was a nice little dive bar full of very friendly and polite people, and a very pleasant bartender. The wall behind the slightly-curved bar is plastered with yellowed old dollar bills. Three cafeteria-style tables provide overflow/group seating. Just beyond the pool table was a buffet table with several simmering crock pots. The remainder of the small, smoky space is occupied by a juke box and a couple of video poker machines. I heard that they sometimes have a band in, though the space is so small I can't possibly imagine where they would set up.

The bar is located in what appears to be a converted house that was formerly known as the Curve Inn. The bar is situated smack in the middle, facing the kitchen where burgers, fish sandwiches, stew, fried bologna sandwiches, and other quick items are cooked all day. The food seemed especially popular during my visit. To the left of the bar is a side room full of fast-food style booths, to the right of the bar is another seating area with bar tables. Behind that area was a game room through which the single restroom is accessible. I meant to check out the game room before leaving but I forgot, so I didn't see what all was back there. It looked like beer and liquor selection was limited, but probably sufficient for the needs of most. At this time there isn't a lot of decor and the walls are largely barren, but I imagine that will change over the coming months.

I had time to grab a single pour/pint as well and it was also nice. Some good stouts, lagers, and IPAs. Decor is nice, place is clean. I think the only thing holding them back from a full 5 in my book is a few simple fresh food options (some pretzels or tortilla chips, etc.) would be nice--but that's a minor point.
