My daughter took the speech class as an after school enrichment program at JFS. What an amazing program that teaches effective communication and helps to build the students' confidence in a fun and engaging way. She learned so much, focusing on weekly topics such as the importance of eye contact, using gestures, projecting your voice, organizing your speech in a concise way, etc.. As we approach the end of the school year, I can say with great confidence that this is an excellent program and I look forward to sending my daughter to more classes at Silver Creek Academy. Wonderful program! My two children have been enrolled in their reading, writing, and public speaking for the last 5 years. Reem, the manager, is very kind and accommodating and always helps me schedule make up classes throughout the weeks. We've had many kind teachers and especially love Ms. Mandy, Ms. Bobbi, Ms. Lisa, Ms. Janette, and Ms. Daniela. Their homework always has good feedback and their teachers take the time to give me extra feedback on my kids, who both struggle with spelling a lot. Now, for price. It's a local business that tries to keep costs low for parents and they have multi class and sibling discounts. Of course though, this is the Bay Area but I found that summer has the best savings and enrolling in their camps with these discounts becomes much more affordable. I've tried other tutoring centers and just didn't feel like their teachers were as invested or qualified as silver creek academy's. This program is the best bang for your buck. However, parents, you get out of it what you put into it. It's important to check your children's homework and teacher's feedback. My kids often want to skip doing homework (as kids do) so I try to take 10 minutes to review feedback with them and make sure they do their work. I made this mistake at first, but saw so much more growth when I took the time to review with my kids. I've seen so much improvement with my kids reading levels, grammar, ability to write essays, and speak aloud. I can't thank the academy enough for their stronger progress reports at school, and my kids will 100% continue tutoring until college. read more

My son has been going here almost a year now. Started with just Math help then we added writing. Then this past August, we did both math and writing at his elementary school as an enrichment program followed by homework help. My son is behind in math and so after several months of him being tutored in math that is geared toward his grade level, I pulled him out because he really needs help in math two grades below where he currently is. I understand their model is to help in your appropriate grade level, but I found that for a child who is behind, this model doesn't work. I've since pulled my son and have taken him to a tutoring place that specializes in just Math where they actually tested him to see where he's currently at and are building a foundation. I have no beef with their writing program. I do feel like SCA has a much stronger focus on their writing programs than math. Now my biggest complaint is their homework help at the elementary school my son attends. He's there for 90 minutes. I totally acknowledge that the kids need breaks, especially after just coming from an hour tutoring session of Writing or Math or whatever they've signed up for. So they don't get a solid 90 minutes of homework time, and that's perfectly fine. My son is in 5th grade and has a lot of homework, I don't expect it all to get done in the time he's there. However what he does complete, I expect his teacher to double check and help with any corrections. SCA advertised a 6:1 ratio for homework help. Every week my son comes home and said his teacher corrected what he'd completed. And EVERY SINGLE TIME there were multiple errors in his homework, not just a few accidents, but he'd have incorrect answers in every subject. I'd brought it up to the director of the after school program several times and she would assure me that they would do a better job. I have a hard time believing that credentialed teachers are looking at his homework and not noticing all the errors. So then each evening it's a battle because my son argues with me about having to re-do his homework when a teacher at SCA said it was correct. We are now no longer doing after school homework help because most of the time it just made our homework experience worse. If it's too hard to correct each student's homework, either don't advertise that you will or hire more teachers to make it feasible. I'm giving SCA 3 stars because all the staff I've come across are genuinely nice and seem to care for the kids and I do think their writing class is helpful to my son. read more

Silver Creek Academy is a strong learning place for writing, reading comprehension, and math. The teachers genuinely care for their students and provide constructive feedback on students' assignments. Additionally, the office and teachers continuously works to cater the students needs, whether they need to be challenged or require special attention. The office is also wonderful at calling back parents immediately to address concerns, questions, and registration. Overall, Silver Creek Academy's an amazing after-school program. I came here for SAT preparation, but the teacher there, I don't even know her name, did nothing for us. All we did were two packets of a section (reading and math, or writing and math, or sometimes an essay). After, she would tell us the answers and if you asked why the answer is the answer, she read the given explanation out loud. The teacher was a high school teacher from Cupertino, and when some of us said we weren't doing good with math, she said "Math is not one of my strengths". The only thing she actually graded were our essays, but she never explained to us what we did wrong and how to make our writing better. In a short sense, the teacher was not trained in actually teaching SAT material, and you should use $570 of your money on something else more effective. Honestly, everything we did in this class was something we could've done on our own, but the very convincing receptionist makes you feel like you are going to get something out of this class. read more

I am surprised that there are no other reviews available for this business. Silver Creek Academic Academy... terrible choice for a name for obvious, repetitive reasons. This should have been the first indicator that this may not be a suitable place for my children. When you enter the building, the area is cramp and the receptionist's table is located directly to the right of the door. It's difficult to have a private conversation with the staff with other parents and students lingering around. A laptop and cellular phone seem to serve as the company's primary business computer and phone line... very unprofessional and an eyesore. I am unsure if they have a land line or cordless phone around, but I have never sighted one. The work given to my children is something I can easily prepare myself. There is no effective or revolutionary lesson plan. The "teachers" (I will further elaborate on the quotations later) pile the kids with tedious worksheets that do not enhance their learning. There are only a couple of male teachers present, and they seem to be the most engaging when working with the students. The rest of the staff is made up of women who do not seem to have any background or experience in teaching. One of the main teachers is continuously outside the classroom on a laptop or chatting with the staff. There is a tacky wall display towards the back filled with teacher credentials, none of which show the current status (whether active or expired) of these so-called instructors. I paid for my kids to have an enjoyable supplement to their schoolwork and I am appalled with the poor quality offered here. read more

My daughter took writing classes here and was taught by Ms. Swircek, probably one of the most dedicated teachers I have come across . Her ability to realize my daughter's strengths and weaknesses immediately allowed my daughter to improve her written skills in a very short time. I also observed the public speaking classes taught by Ms. Swircek and found her all encompassing curriculum to cover so many areas like the importance of communication skills, how to speak confidently, debating skills, to name a few, that are just not taught in regular school. When my youngest son was having a hard time with passing the entry exam (Math portion) for his new school, I knew he needed help. I was desperate to find a tutor to help him. There was a very small window on which he would be able to re-take the test. I had to find a tutor who could help him one-on-one. So, I did what all parents do, I asked friends for recommendations and I checked the web for local tutoring services. After numerous emails and calls to different places, I remembered there was this academy near where I live. I went online and read up on Silver Creek Academy. I liked what I read, but I wanted to go in and speak with someone. I knew I should have gone through the proper procedures and made an appointment, but I was exhausted and desperate to find the right match tutor for my son. When I walked in Silver Creek Academy, I was immediately greeted by Shelley. When I spoke with Shelley, she could see how stressed I was with finding a tutor. I told her my sons story and immediately threw a bunch of questions at her...literally rambled through the first wave of questions. With that wonderful smile of hers, she patiently spoke with me and fielded every, single, question I had. Even though I was a walk-in and did not make an appointment, Shelley was very compassionate and understood my needs. She told me what Silver Creek Academy could offer my son; I soon was on the right path with getting a tutor set up. After we spoke, she told me I would receive a call from the office manager, Annette. Annette would work with me on scheduling a tutor for my son, but we needed to work out which day(s) would work for him. Just like Shelley, Annette is wonderfully understanding and patient. She matched up my son with a tutor, and even though it was a little difficult to get the days I wanted for my son, Annette did her best to accommodate us. This, by no means, was the fault of Silver Creek Academy when it came to the schedule, this was purely based on my sons existing school schedule. Annette is a joy to work with and always has a smile on her face - unless it's raining. 8) The tutor. There are not enough words to express my gratitude to the tutor. I could NOT have been more pleased when I met my sons new tutor, Kendyl. Kendyl is an amazing person. She is bright, patient, and because of her background with teaching, she knew how to handle my son. Once my son became comfortable with Kendyl (which was pretty fast) he began to focus, speak up more, and work on his bad habits. What Kendyl did for son, her technique, and again, patience, helped my son get over his biggest hurdle...himself. I am extremely pleased to say that because of my first meeting with Shelley, working with Annette to schedule my son a tutor, and having Kendyl as my sons tutor, he passed the entry exam for his new school! As being the first generation in America the English language wasn't the easiest to learn. My parents enrolled me in writing classes for about six years at Silver Creek Academy. Now that I am a freshmen in college, I am very thankful that I took these classes. I have noticed many improvements in my writing and so have my respective peers and family members. Aside from the educational services, the staff here is amazing. Everyone tries their very best to aid you and is extremely friendly. This place is a wonderful place for kids to improve their reading and writing skills. Many of the teachers here are teachers from the school district. The founder Mrs. Swircek was a teacher in Evergreen. They teach writing according to the Step Up to Writing system so it's the same system they learn in Evergreen school district. They recently moved to a larger space in the shopping center which used to be the Goodwill store. They also offer some classes on site at local schools afterschool. My son took their public speaking class at his school and he became more confident in speaking in front of the class. I wish I had the time and money to keep him coming to this place. The focus is helping him improve his math skills which is a higher priority at this time. I don't think their math program is as extensive as their reading and writing classes, so I decided to have him enrolled at a math focused learning center, Mathnasium. read more
