It is with a heavy heart that my elder son left Stratford. We came back to an exodus of Principal, teachers and staff. The new home room teacher was fresh out of college without support, resulting in weeks of chaos. Followed by a strike. What made my mind was the opaque communication from the corporate owners of Stratford, refusing to address the parents as a group in an obvious upheaval on campus, nor updates on how they plan to address these issues. During individual meetings (if you choose to reach out) expect a PR corporate piece of Taichi (it's not a me problem) with no substantial content. Stratford has a good curriculum and occupies an economically feasible spot for private schools. I sincerely hope this exodus of current students serve to change their mind about how to handle a school. This is where capitalism failed: a school's "profitability" should not be solely measured by corporate EBIT. I have no confidence the campus issues will be resolved in the near future. I expect recurrent chaos year after year. Hence we left. I admire the teachers, leaders and staff that stayed for the children placed under their care. At first, I was reluctant due to cost, but seeing how my son has grown and developed from a shy boy into an outgoing and social one has made everything well worth it. We enrolled our child into pre school for the very first time & couldn't have been more nervous, coming out of the pandemic. Everyday for the first week, my child cried with anxiety. The comfort Ms Madhavi & Ms Naila gave him, warmed my heart. The changes that we've seen in him are dramatic. My child can put on his own jacket, write letters/numbers, knows how to do some basic math & sings all day long! He used to be extremely shy, but now he's opened up so much. He comes home and tells us that Ms Naila helps him at school. What parent doesn't want hear that?? We are keeping our fingers crossed that Ms Naila will be our child's summer program teacher. I decided to write this review because I have witnessed a remarkable transformation in my son. He used to be an extremely shy boy who never initiated greetings and preferred to hide behind me. Since we primarily spoke Chinese at home, he didn't know much English. Last fall, I enrolled him in Stratford's pre-K program, and now, a year later, I have noticed a significant change. My son has made many friends, confidently greets teachers and friends, and has become much more fluent in English. He brings home various creations and artwork every day, showcasing his newfound skills. I am delighted to see him become more outgoing and genuinely happy at school every day. Our daughter is in her 2nd year at Stratford San Jose. We were looking for a school with a progressive learning approach that challenges her and unlocks her full learning potential. The educational approach at Stratford provides a foundation for this to happen. When it comes to staff and administration, everyone is very approachable and willing to listen and support. Our child just finished 5th grade at Stratford on San Anselmo, after being there since Pre-K and thru Spring 2022. We used to recommend Stratford to everyone, but now, cannot recommend the school, especially for 5th grade. Stratford has a serious teacher-accountability issue and is woefully behind the times with their online portal, compared to any other private school in the area. Once we started having issues, I asked the latest principal "why should our child go to Stratford instead of a public school?". His answer was "we have a 15-1 student/teacher ratio, so no child should get left behind or feel like they are not getting individual attention, like they might-- in public school-- with larger class sizes." If you know your child to be outgoing, requires no supervision, is unafraid to ask questions, always motivated to study, and confident in speaking up in class, your kid could thrive anywhere. They are the 5-star reviewers here. They should be reviewing their kid. Many kids at this campus were that way before the pandemic. Stratford literally had no policy regarding getting kids re-acclimated after distance learning. Coming back to school was sink-or-swim. A group of 5-6 parents and I shared our bad experiences and encouraged each other to talk to the teachers first and then, the principal. It was the worst customer experience of my life, not only because of the money involved, but the "time"..... I write a lot of positive reviews, but if you read any of my negative ones, please know this is the hardest and worst of all of them. My motto is "the fish stinks from the head down...". PEGs, in general, are not known for keeping customers first, they support shareholders. They are known for ruining many an industry. We were warned about 5th grade at this location by a few parents who each had a few kids go there, and pulled the youngest out in time for 5th. Especially warned of a male math teacher, who had a reputation for being--not mean, but--too gruff and inflexible with any student--especially boys, who were not super motivated, outgoing and studious. He had a way of calling kids out who asked a question about what he just lectured on, blaming them for "not paying attention" or "not taking notes". Any student who was shy or needed extra help would not get help unless they asked. Kids who needed help, after the way he treated them, "learned how to not ask dumb questions" as my son put it. We asked him many times to please help our shy kid, but he just ghosted us. He somehow chose 2022 summer to quit. His 5th grade co-teacher, a woman who is still there, was kinder the kids, however, she was very disorganized. She changed the lesson plans from what was on the Schoology online schedule almost daily. Constant feedback accomplished nothing. Her habit of "changing of plans on the fly" caused 15 kids,+ 30 parents (45 people), hours of stress almost each night because we would email or text each other to try to figure out what the lesson was (she took to long to respond). Same thing on the weekend for big projects that were due, then not due, because she cancelled at the last minute. Most of us were shocked when we had the first parent teacher conference, which was months into the school year. At that time, they announced to us that not only were our kids struggling, but the two teachers knew about it all those months. None of us were notified by a concerned teacher before that announcement, or any time after that conference. They could see the child needed help and never reached out. We asked why. They said they were waiting for the kids to ask them for help. So much for good student/teacher ratios where the child gets individual attention. The new principal, who came during lockdown, was a breath of fresh air. The previous principal had years of feedback about 5th grade. Never got better. He tried and tried. Eventually, he quit this summer after 1.5 years at this campus and years at Stratford. Their loss. Most parents I talked to, who had kids who did not do well in math in 5th, said their kids did well in all the previous years. The math was not that much harder, I know, I helped my kid study...Same student, different teachers, seems obvious to me. Instead of giving feedback to the school, they opted to send their kids to expensive and time-consuming tutors. If I bought a car, I would expect the dealer to fix it under warranty, not for me to have to pay out of pocket. Makes no sense to me. Since this has happened, our child applied at 2 local secular private schools. Both have online portals that make Stratford look like the 80s. Better customer support, as well. Your money is spent better elsewhere. read more

Where do I even begin? This year (2022) has been nothing but an absolute disappointment! School has been in session for a month and the teacher has yet to show up. What kind of private school functions like this? For $20,000/year you would expect them to have their act together! My child refuses to drink any water because their restrooms are worse than a gas station. Feces and urine on toilet seats and on the floor! If you try to file a complaint, the leadership team does absolutely nothing but brush you off. Is it not a basic necessity to have a janitorial staff at an elementary school? We are in our third year at Stratford and I continue to be impressed by all the staff and teachers, and thankful that my son is able to attend this school. He is currently in Kindergarten and previously attended both Pre-K and T-K. Stratford San Jose puts in a lot of effort into making each child feel known, safe, and welcomed. I have been on campus many times and witnessed interaction between faculty and children in many settings, and without fail the staff and teachers are warm, respectful, and appropriately firm with the children. Each student is known by name and encouraged to express themselves, while still operating within a structure that teaches core values such as trustworthiness and perseverance. Stratford has a very well-rounded curriculum, emphasizing solid foundational skills (reading, writing, math) and also incorporating music, PE, Spanish, art, science, history, and social studies into each week's lessons. Older students also participate in additional subjects such as computer science. They also have fun activities (in-person, in normal years) such as pep-rallies, field trips, and after-school clubs. Due to Covid during the 2020-21 school year, Statford has been nimble in adjusting their offerings to suit both online or an in-person hybrid school model. They have quickly adapted to provide a robust curriculum in both formats and used technology to make sure the online option is still providing a great experience for the kids. Our son is currently enrolled in Pre-K virtual program. We have been very impressed with the curriculum as well as the way the teachers have been able to adapt and deliver it virtually. Our teacher, Ms. Ankita has been truly exceptional. It is no small feat to engage kids via zoom. I give all the credit to her for my son thriving academically in remote learning. She is a total rockstar. Her positive vibes uplift the kids and they look forward to the class everyday. She is encouraging and teaches kids to be independent. She is consistent with the behaviors kids are expected to do and she patiently encourages them to make the right choices. You can tell she loves all the kids and the kids adore her! This is our daughters second year at Stratford and we are very happy with our decision to choose Stratford as her first school. She is currently enrolled in Ms. Naila and Ms. Shumin's Pre-K class. Both the teachers are exceptionally well with the kids. Teachers engage the kids in activities right from the time you drop off till the time you pick them up. I have seen teachers read stories or sit with the kids n engage them in conversations while I pick my daughter up. They make learning fun for our daughter. Stratford has been an amazing stepping stone into my all of Children's introduction to education - most specifically pre-k under the guidance of Ms Naila and Ms Shumin. I have seen a tremendous growth in them socially, emotionally and academically. I'm always taken aback at how much my children have learned and continue to learn under their kind, gentle and warm guidance. I especially love the variety that is provided in their curriculum from science, arts, Spanish, music to much more. The San Jose Campus especially has done an excellent job during this pandemic year in ensuring our children/staff are safe and communication lines kept open on guiding us through covid-19 protocols and changing guidelines. I thought Stratford had a decent reputation. I enrolled my rising 5th grader into their summer stem program. My experience has been that Stratford uses substandard supplies, lacks attention to detail and piece mills its curriculum. Very disappointed. Last day of week 3 and I kept my child home. It just was not worth the drive over there. My child was supposed to be in a stem program not a daycare. I could not recommend this program to any friends/family. read more

Sending our daughter to Stratford was one of the best decisions we have made. She is extremely shy and introverted and had trouble settling into her previous preschool, so when we enrolled her in preschool at Stratford, we were worried if she would be able to adjust. We are so grateful to be part of Stratford community at this unprecedented time. My daughter is pre-K with Ms. Desirie and Ms.Madhavi. I have a very super active daughter who requires more challenge and follow up. Before shelter in place they were helping her a lot and after zoom session starts we were amazed how the school scaled up by creating distance learning curriculum. My daughter was enrolled in Pre-K really late this year due to the pandemic. Had been staying home for over a year, she was a very picky eater and shy. Within 2 months with Ms. Joly's class, we can notice her impressive progress. From being scared of snack time and unsocialized, she has become more open with her peers and been able to try new food. Our kid was at San Jose campus as a transition student in Ms Jyoti's classroom (preschool). Even in those short 2 months he learnt a lot about different life skills, co-existence with Nature and STEAM subjects. Butterfly lifecycle was one of the best projects in my opinion. Students used their imagination to create each form of the lifecycle. Ms Jyoti even demonstrated it using a real caterpillar and its stages. When they let the butterfly into the open air kids' joy had no bounds. This taught them value of freedom for animals and insects as well. She is a very loving and caring teacher, and puts her passion for early childhood education into the curriculum. I saw a big leap in my kid's painting, writing, expression of his thoughts and creativity during those two months. Big thanks to Ms Michelle who is very kind and loving, taught music, arts and painting to kids that help develop their creative side of brain. My kid had eczema flareups and both teachers took lot of effort to keep it under control by applying home provided eczema cream regularly. On his last day at school they had a nice farewell party and all wished him well. Ms Jyothi's loving and encouraging words in her short prose for him on his picture will always be cherished :) I am thankful to Stratford San Jose administrative staff for providing excellent support during the toughest times in pandemic. All my concerns and questions about operation in pandemic were very patiently handled. They maintain highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene which made us feel safe and comfortable sending our kid during pandemic. Big shout out to Ms Angela, Ms Saadiya and Jessica. Our boys have been at Stratford going on 10 years. They both started at the San Jose campus and our oldest has moved on to San Jose middle school. We can honestly say the entire staff is truly amazing. The curriculum is challenging and we love recitation. Activities in and out of school are super fun. We feel grateful to be a part of the Stratford school family. There is a bus service in the morning and afternoon to the middle school. This makes drop off easy to one location.
