I went to the ladies room right after someone finished cleaning, and there was no toilet paper. The floor was wet from washing and it still smells filthy. When I went to take a shower at night, two of the three ladies showers did not work and one of the men's showers had either extreme amount of mud or human feces on the floor. It seems that a bunch of people live here extended stay style. Nothing green in sight. Not sure what they do with the money they collect. On a two month trip this is my only bad review.

Your first stop, when visiting the Falls of the Ohio State Park, should be the Interpretive Center,…read morewhich is basically like a mini museum full of exhibits and information about the area, past and present. The Interpretive Center is great for kids, because there are a lot of hands-on activities. Theres an admission fee to enter the Interpretive Center, but it doesn't cost anything to park and walk around the outdoor area of the Falls of the Ohio State Park. Walk on the fossilized rocks, peer out onto the Ohio River and over to Louisville, and enjoy being by the water. Just don't collect any rocks or fossils -- there are signs saying to leave everything where you found it. I do think it's worth it to go into the Interpretive Center, though. There's an interesting piece of artwork on one of the walls of some of the trash that was collected along the Ohio River. It's arranged nicely and looks beautiful, but it's a testament to all of the garbage that people mindlessly leave around that end up in our waterways. This was a quick stop on our visit to southern Indiana, but I definitely think it was well worth it. If you're in the area, this is definitely a place to visit.

We asked a nice pedestrian and he told us where to go (at the lookout). OMG I was like, this is it??? Looked like cement drainage from the river. It's a very steep walk down and then back up. My dad and I both have bum knees and the walk down was hard on our knees. It says in several places that trail 3 is longer but not as hard, so we decided to take trail 3 back. I don't know who decided to play a mean trick on people and say trail 3 is easier to take but man they have a sick sense of humor! The mail trail is about a mile down a wide paved road. You could easily drive down it. Trail 3 is a windy, steep up and down, rocky, rooty, dirt trail that is also very narrow. It is not in any way shape or Form easier than the main trail. Oh and did I mention it is about a mile and a half or more? So it's harder and longer than the main trail . See the pictures. We did see more cool stuff on trail 3 than the main trail though. Rose Island itself was really cool. It would have been an amazing place in its hay day!

I like hiking. A lot. And I like hiking at new and different places…read more Charlestown State Park is....okay. They have some really nice trails, spread out and across a large area. There is plenty of parking. And I believe that camping is an option. You have to pay to get in, which is fine. But I am highly annoyed that out of state cars have to pay more. Once when I went though, it was in the off season and there was no one working at the entrance gate. We were hoping to pay with a card, and it appeared to be an honor system for paying the $9 on days when the park is open, but no one is working. I was enticed by the promise of Rose Island ruins (a former amusement park/resort. Not actually an island). But as interesting as it sounds, it was disappointing. It has been all cleaned up and sign-ified and it is more meh than I had hoped. I would probably come back more often if it was more like $5 to get in. But with Louisville's copious parks, state and otherwise, and Bernheim about the same distance drive, I'm inclined to stay on my side of the river.

I only got to see a sliver of its many acres, but my blood pressure dropped just from driving up to its main building. And if you are a bibliophile, don't miss this annual book sale! The proceeds benefit Locust Grove, and it boasts an awesome, overflowing selection of used books. I got there right when it opened at 10 a.m., and by 10:15, everyone was shoulder to shoulder. I came away, though, with a box of books for my and my family, costing just $30. The volunteers were great too, taking everyone's stacks of books to set aside while they shopped for more. I would love to come back for a proper tour and to bring my kids. Can't believe this site is just 10 minutes from my house and that I haven't properly enjoyed it yet. I'm excited to learn more about it!

Before heading out, we checked Locust Grove's website and it listed tour times with no indication…read morethat the main house was closed for installation of new HVAC. Nothing on their website made any indication that tours were not available. The house and museum are normally open Tuesday to Sunday in February but with the HVAC work, the house has been closed for two months (January and February). It is scheduled to reopen on MARCH 1st. Obviously, others must have known the house/museum was closed as we only saw 3 or 4 other non-staff visitors while we were there. That said, we did enjoy a 12 minute video presentation in the visitors center and did have a chance to see exhibits detailing the site's history - also in the visitors center. After the visitors center, we did a walking tour of the site and read all the signs explaining the purpose of each building. The walking tour was interesting. We need to return sometime after March 1st and actually get a tour of the main house and museum.

Great camping spot! We rented Osprey cabin by the lake. It was about $50 a night. There's a fire…read morepit, plug in heater, AC, outlets, a full sized bed frame, twin bunk frames, and a little nook up a ladder over the door. No mattresses, so bring something. This cabin has a water spigot right outside, and is a 4 minute walk from a building with bathrooms (stalls with doors) & showers. There's a porch with a chair and porch swing. The sun rises right behind the swing over the lake. The campground gets very crowded, but this bundle of 4 cabins feel secluded enough. We had plenty of privacy from neighboring cabins and other campers. You have to reserve 2 nights online for cabins. This cabin was showing a single night of availability. We had to call to reserve but it was worth it. They'll let you book just one night like that if you're within 2 weeks of the date you want. Oh and this weekend in October they have a big Halloween thing so lots of people decorated their spaces and there was trick r treating.

The property is well laid out and tonights event was so well coordinated. There is a huge indoor event space, a very large outdoor covered pavilion, small lakes with fountains, trails connecting the individual airatream trailers, numerous sitting areas, fire pits. You can rent an individual airstream trailer, a house/cabin, or I assume the entire property if you were having a huge event with out of town guests. The event space allows for your own vendors but at the open house their favorite vendors to work with were on site offering samples of there services, drinks, food. They had a smores bar set up with a great fire pit and all the accessories needed to roast a perfect marshmallow for your smore. Kayaks are situated around the property for use by guests. Each airstream has it's own covered sitting area with a fire pit and comfortable outdoor seating. Lovely interior airstreams, modern and fully equipped. Just an all around lovely space. A great idea for a family gathering or girls trip.

Progress Park is the best hidden secret right in the middle of Louisville…read more The park isn't massive but it's big enough to do so many things! Pond for fishing and kayaking, huge chess board, huge connect four, covered pickle ball court, volley ball, shuffle board and more! We have stayed at two different air streams and both have been very nice and roomy! There are outdoor grills to use and camp fires for each area. It's wild how you basically go from an industrial park directly to feeling like you are in the middle of nowhere camp. It's awesome! Best part is, if you forget something, there are so many stores within a few minutes. Highly recommended!

Plenty of walkers, runners, bikers, dog walkers, recreational users (frisbees and kites), tailgaters, and drivers today. We stopped to catch a break near the top of the hill at Hogan's Fountain. The water fountains and faucets (to fill up dog bowls) were all operational today in mid-March. Restroom facilities were also open.
