Prices are on the higher end, but that is to be expected. Fewer ingredients, higher prices. You get a smaller, local feeling to this place compared to Whole Foods. I would recommend stopping in if in the area, especially if you too require a particular diet or simply healthier options overall.

I found International Spices & Groceries using a Google search, and after visiting the market yesterday, I was so surprised that no one had reviewed the place on Yelp as of yet. Well, there's a first time for everything... The first thing I noticed about the store is how sparkling clean the floors were. Along with the bright lighting and well-organized shelves stacked with the whole gamut of traditional spices, jams, pita bread, cookies, and teas (to name only a few of the items they had), this place exceeded my expectations. Many international grocers have no desire to spruce up their stores because they know the focused customer base will continue to shop there, especially if there is no nearby competition. However, this place does an excellent job of appealing to the general public, with its ample selection of meats, cheeses, frozen and dried goods. If you plan on visiting the store on Fridays, remember that its closed around noon. I forgot what time exactly, but it is listed on the front door. I parked on the street at a metered spot right in front of the store and did not notice a nearby lot for shoppers.

It reminds us of the more "boutique" grocery stores found in the Minneapolis area, such as Lunds & Byerlys. They have a great selection of gluten-free items that we haven't seen since moving to the Midwest. Their produce section is amazing, with everything you could possibly want, including more obscure things like yucca and taro root. They also have a huge aisle full of imported products from all over the world. If you can't find it here, it doesn't exist! Their "drugstore" area also has everything you could possibly need. There's also a Cub liquor store a few steps away, which offers great stuff we've never seen. Unfortunately the grocery store is tucked away near an enormous Costco (we do not belong to Costco), so I imagine they take away customers who may prefer a store like Cub. But if you like a relaxing nearly magical shopping experience, stop in at the Cub on NW Scott Road because you will be amazed by the selection!

Fantastic diversity of artisan cheese, local, national, and import. I'd signed up for a Hy-Vee member card ahead of time and scouted out ecoupons. Therefore, I shopped for a few things around the store. I knew where nothing was, but I managed to find what I wanted. Those discounts came through without a problem. I'd definitely visit a Hy-Vee again for the cheese selection. I only wish they had a location in Red Wing!
