DISHONEST COMPANY. TAKES ADVANTAGE OF ELDERLY WITH DEMENTIA. My father, who had dementia, contracted with this company to move to his household items to a nursing home. The company pushed for an in person estate sale DURING THE HEIGHT OF COVID in 2020. Almost no one came to the estate sale, so it only earned $400. However, they billed $3000 just expenses toward the estate sale, resulting in a loss of $2600. After my father passed they hounded me for payment (including additional charges to move his materials to his new home, which is reasonable). Of course, my father had dementia and had no ability to sign a contract, but not wanting this to have this drag on I paid to leave this behind so I could grieve. This business claims to provide compassionate service for the elderly, but our experience showed otherwise. They exploited my father's situation, pushing unnecessary services onto him and charging exorbitant fees, all while providing negligible results. They failed to respect my family's needs and showed no accountability for their actions. If you are looking for a service that genuinely cares about its clients, I strongly advise looking elsewhere. SHAME ON JAMI SHAPIRO THE FOUNDER. NOT TRUSTWORTHY AND DISHONEST AND WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR LOVED ONES. Update: I'm sharing a disparaging remark that Jami made about me when I reviewed her service with the better business bureau. She knows nothing of the situation in our family, the sacrifices we made in our family, the hardships that I endured to care for my father. Hire her team if you want someone who makes nasty comments like this after your loved one passes away. None of this changes the fact that: 1) My father had major neuro-cognitive disorder when he signed a contract with this company, 2) The "estate sale" they encouraged was against his financial interest. 3) When my father passed they threatened to take the estate to small claims court when I questioned the legitimacy of the estate sale that only racked up expenses. I paid for her services in full so that we could grieve but we never forgot how they took advantage of us in our grief. This is textbook elder abuse, which is why I am reviewing and rating her company to warn others of this practice. Update: Jami continues to lie in her review. "Arranged for the sale of the car" this is something I did alone as I held power of attorney. I agree that she provided necessary moving services, which we were happy to pay for, that is not in dispute. We thank her company for this. The dispute is over holding an estate sale that earned very little in revenue insufficient to offset the costs of estate sale, and then threatening (very quickly, when I asked any clarifying information about the bill) to take us to small claims court so shortly after my father's move and his passing. That is not compassionate care. This could have all been prevented had her team donated my father's possessions rather than held an estate sale. Apologies, but 1 star. I am only coming on Yelp to warn people. Background: They did a move for my mom at Sea Crest in Carlsbad, CA last week. I can't really explain how they thought it was okay to ABANDON my mother at her new residential care facilities without half of her belongings, all because (and completely out of my 89 year old mothers control) their elevators were broken that day and the 2 young men there just refused to use the stairs. Now, I understand it was a bit more of an ask and I would've thought better solutions would have been explored before leaving my mother there, dropping off her belongings in the first floor lobby, and leaving the premises, telling my mother "we'll be back in a week to move the rest". Of course, they had absolutely no issue with charging my credit card the moment they left and the full amount too, might I add. NURSES AND STAFF finish moving my mothers belongings, including her medications, left foot wheel chair pedal, and cell phone, all things that Silver Linings thought could be forgotten behind. I hope they learn from this mistake and don't let this happen again at a care facility that doesn't care. read more

The Silver Linings Transition team did an amazing job packing and unpacking my family after my recent move. They are saints with orange aprons. The SLT team packed up my home in 2 days, and as the movers moved my belongings in, the team put away the majority of our belongings, made the beds, had the kitchen functional, with shelf liners in and clean dishes ready for use. The service mentioned in the brochures was not completed. TV was not hooked up, left in box. Pictures were taken before quote was made but only one group of pictures were hung. One group of pick call My Travel Wall Roxanne told me not to worry they would find a spot. They did. The pictures are in a box somewhere. Have not found them yet. We learned about Silver Linings through Lise Marquis, an elder placement specialist, who helps seniors transition into senior living communities. In this case, my sister needed help transitioning out of her 1,350 square foot townhome of some 33 years and into a 4th story apartment less than half the size. Silver Linings to the rescue! And high praise to owner Jami and especially to lead coordinator, JoAnn, who went above and beyond in working with my sister to make the move stress free and painless. She literally moved mountains for us. That is, my sister had loaded up her home with furniture, office equipment, book cases, kitchenware, tools, doggie beds and what-have-you, plus filled her closets and attic space with clothing, books, more tools, holiday displays, plus boxes and boxes of paperwork and records. JoAnn was the epitome of patience and understanding. Day after day, she met with my 78-year-old sister--as well as a somewhat nervous dog--a few hours at a time so as not to overwhelm, and sorted through it all, item by item. She used a magnetic whiteboard to make a mock-up of the new space with furniture cut-outs and dimensions, to show not only how the new place would look, but to help my sister decide what furniture would work and which pieces would not. If I or my wife had any questions, JoAnn always answered by phone or by text, and kept us informed as to how the job was progressing. She got along with my sister famously, though always on task, but also laughing and joking as needed, which my sister loved. Moving day was frantic, as one might imagine, but, again, handled wonderfully by JoAnn and her crew. They met the movers at both properties, first to direct the loading and then to unpack and get the new unit set up so that it replicated parts of my sister's previous arrangements and felt like home. By 7:00 pm that night, JoAnn and crew were hanging the last few pieces of artwork, sending us a video report on the new design, and my sister loved it! As a retired clinical psychologist, she deeply appreciated the care, concern, and empathy she received from JoAnn and the Silver Linings team all along. True professionals all the way! You cannot go wrong with this company. I've moved many times over the years and this, by far, the least stressful move I've ever had. Of course moving is stressful, but their system, really removes much of the stress and guesswork out of the process. They have several levels of service and the customer can choose how much help they want. We chose to have a lot of help because ours was a difficult move. Jami's system is super organized and once you know how to do it, it's easy. I also had them help me with organizing and decluttering which enabled me to move into a smaller house with much less "stuff". I did the Kon Marie method for the month prior to the actual move, so I felt good about packing just the items that bring me joy but it was still a massive amount of stuff to deal with. The move itself was a two day affair because of the amount of stuff so organization was crucial for its success. They do it all. Whatever you need. Here are some of the things they did for us. Organizing and sorting before packing, helping me create piles of items to donate to goodwill and books to be donated to the library, photographing items for sale and posting the ads online, and even loading their personal cars with things and dropping them off for me. Then they packed all of the things that I hadn't packed, which was most of the house. We had two teams. One lead by Dawn (Superwoman) and one lead by Elena (Wonderwoman). (I also had Pamela, Joyce, Lisa and Susan (I hope I didn't forget anyone!) and each lovely woman who helped with the move made me feel like I was being moved by my friends. The women who work for Silver Linings are so kind and compassionate that you just feel a sense of support and comfort that's palpable. It's hard to describe because I've never had that feeling during a move but it felt completely amazing and I truly felt peaceful inside, even amidst the chaos. And did I mention that it rained the whole weekend that we moved? The move itself was so organized that it never got too stressful or crazy. Also, they use a system where the customer rents large plastic totes to move the vast majority of your things. This is so much better for the environment than moving boxes. Whatever boxes you do need are ones that have been used before so they're recycled already. Even much of the paper used to wrap fragile things is recycled from other jobs. I really appreciated that so much and it makes a huge difference in diminishing the waste of a move. The customer rents the totes (Silver Linings handles all of this) which are delivered to the house and that's it. Then you and they pack them up and they are retrieved the day after the move. Genius idea. The other great thing they do is the unpacking. Their system is just incredible. They ask you NOT to be at the new place on move day so when you come home at the end of the day, your things are put away and organized and lovely. Basically, they take the most awful parts of moving and deal with those parts for you. So at the end of move day you come home to a beautifully made bed and your closet organized and your T-shirt's in the drawers rolled using the Kon Marie way! They even put things away like a designer would, so when you arrive in your new home, it looks like a dream home. They use all of your things but the way they put things away, makes it look like you've had a designer come in. They are great at accessorizing with your own things! I was blown away by how great everything looked. Those lovely ladies also have talent for designing! They are amazing and wonderful and it was worth the cost. Yes, it's on the pricey side but its worth it. It was the nicest move we've ever had and I'm so grateful for their help and support. Jami and her teams are so organized and so positive and energetic that it's contagious and it can make you feel good about the whole process and by doing that they make it seem less difficult. We also used their suggested mover, Rick Birditt of Birditt moving. You're free to use any mover that you want but Rick's guys are familiar with the Silver Linings labeling system and the totes so it just made sense to go with him. He's a nice man with fair pricing and his guys were all just super nice young men and they were very careful with our things. Not one thing got damaged and they were really nice and funny and we were pleased to have them in our home. We wholeheartedly recommend Jami and her team at Silver Linings Transitions. They are miracle workers and I'm so grateful for the lovely women who made us feel supported and cared for during this process. It's like this magic service that I've dreamed about during previous moves, like "What if there was a company that would do all of this with me, or maybe even for me"? Prayers answered!!!! As we all know, it's alway about the people, and EVERYONE we have had the pleasure of being involved with us has been terrific. As I write this, we are in the middle of a two day unpacking of a move for my father who is a senior. The kindness, professionalism, work ethic and competency of the staff who is working with us is second to none. It's everything from their orange aprons, the authentic caring they show to us, the offer (and our acceptance) to wash our sheets on their own time at their home (because our washers haven't arrived yet)... is just beyond expectations. From my experience, they are great and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to hire them for any packing, unpacking or moving jobs you have.... Outstanding! Jami showed up as planned on very short notice and provided a friendly and accurate quote to pack up the non-essentials for an open house only 3 days out. My house was a mess and Jami assigned Dawn to the job. Dawn arrived the next day as planned with Katie to help and they crushed the job. They intuitively packed what I didn't need including the pantry, a disastrous garage, an office, a kids' room, and a master suite that hadn't been organized in several months.
