I don't live in the area, so it had been a while since I had set foot in a Silver Platters, and Bellevue was the only location I had previously known of. So, I was thrilled when I found that, not only did the stores still exist, but they had a Lynnwood location when I was in that part of the metro Seattle area. It was fantastic to be able to browse a huge collection of music and movies, and find great titles at wonderful prices. On the music side of things, they had loads of used titles, and I was exstatic to see how many new discs they had in stock. I asked at the counter if they had a section for SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) music, a format that has always been a niche product, and has very few titles being released any more. The person behind the counter not only knew what I was talking about, but he apologized for not having a separate section for these discs, and told me I would find them mixed in with everything else by the same artists. Probably one of the best selections of records in the area. They excel in that department for sure. However, my experience on my last visit was not to be ignored. I returned a record as it was skipping right on the first track. None of my other records that I bought previously not only from here, but from other record stores did not have that issue. I spoke to a man that I think was a manager or something, I was explaining what happened and he immediately judged my record player for being on the cheap end that's why my record was skipping. He asked another question if my speakers were built in, as that can also cause it to skip? I'm not new to this. But to use my record player as an excuse to why the record was skipping was insulting. I told him that none of my other records were doing it, so they need to replace it, in which they did. Guess what? The new copy DID NOT SKIP! So that crosses off my record player as the reason. I did not appreciate that kind of talk. Will I be back? Yes, I think so. But that left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Silver Platters NORTH is always a stop when in the Alderwood Mall area. Huge selection of cd's & lp's to browse through . My collection is huge yet I always managed to find something interesting to grab. Like Alice In Chain LP BURT ! Still amazing today as it was in the 90's when I bought it then on cd... Now behind the counter space is some rare items. Nice thing is the staff can locate you items to pre order or from another store so don't hesitate to test their skill and knowledge. And last but not least you'll always find a great value in the used merchandise. Some of the coolest stuff now is used and some of that stuff you can flip on EBay ! Just don't share that data.. Strip mall record stores are one of my love languages. Based on the name alone, I never would've expected this to be a record store, let alone a large vinyl emporium with thousands of records to sift through! A friend recommended this place to me and we spent an hour here before closing. Vinyl, CDs, movies, random memorabilia, you name it they have it. Fun looking a the diverse assortment of posters on the walls. When I'm in vinyl mode, leave me alone. They had good music playing in the background which is always a plus. Heavy on classic rock, with a noteworthy selection of pop, country, metal, alternative, singer/songwriter, soundtrack, etc. I almost didn't buy anything. Not that there weren't records I wanted. But when I'm traveling I ask myself, " is this worth putting in my suitcase?" Some of the pricing striked me as a little high comparatively to other stores I know. Then at the end, I found a Chris Cornell record that means a lot to me. Boom, that's worth bringing on a plane. Especially with Cornell being a Seattle legend and one of my favorite singers of all time. Nothing flashy or trendy or Instagrammable here, just a record store's record store with the selection doing the talking. There is a common theme here and it's terrible customer service and rude employees who act like they are doing you a favor standing behind the counter. I called in to ask if they had my selection and drove a long ways only to be told they had no copies. They refused to hold a copy for me even with a membership and a credit card number. The staff stood behind the counter and pointed to where I might find my selection. I asked for help twice and they remained in place and pointed. Membership does not matter here! There are lots of other record stores to shop at. I will never return to Silver Platters! read more

Beyond disappointed in my trip into Silver Platters today. I have shopped there many times and have a membership card but am unlikely to return after my experience today. Couldn't help but feel like I was being profiled today. Employee interrupted me not even 3 minutes into shopping and said they needed to keep my purse up front while I shopped. Meanwhile, other customers had purses and one with a backpack shopping. I understand needing to prevent theft but I have been a loyal customer and it just felt ridiculous and I felt racially profiled and very offended considering other non poc patrons had their bags shopping in the store. read more

Selection selections selections There are rows and rows of record choices. They are categorized and divided into various areas. It would take several visits before learning your way around to find what you are lookjng for. There are some cheap records bin located on the corner of the store but it will takes some time to look through to find a gem. The TLDR version; If you want to make a return at this store be sure to make a blood offering to the record store gods before attempting to do so unless you want to be humiliated by its staff. The longer version; Generally speaking, I have always had a good experience at Silver Platters. They have a great selection of Vinyl and CDs and I will continue to shop there for now. This is why I am not giving them 1 star. However, I just had an absolutely terrible experience. Yesterday, I visited two of their stores and I accidentally purchased two of the same CD. One at each of the separate locations. My bad. I am an idiot. I admit it. Now I know used CDs are listed as not returnable. But, I figured I would call and ask if they would make an exception and the person I spoke to said yes and was nice about it. There you go this is how you treat a loyal customer! I head down to the Lynnwood store and I grab the CD I want to exchange. I go to check out and the person helping me out said no returns and this is the worst part, he made me feel like a thief for carrying around the CD I wanted to exchange for a different one in the store. I don't even understand what the scam is he was accusing / thought I could be trying to pull off. He could see on my account I bought the CD twice the prior day. I had the physical receipts in hand. In the past, I have always had a good experience with the same employee, now giving me a hard time, which made things all the more confusing. He ultimately let me do the return, but the whole thing was embarrassing, unnecessary and definitely not worth going through to return a $5.99 CD. read more

Miss Silver Platters in Northgate, only locations are way south in industrial/SoDo Seattle or up in Lynnwood. This is for a lone visit on 11/2/20 as part of a multi-errand day, posting on 2/27/21. It is located near the Lynnwood Convention Center, Olympus Spa, post office, and a Chuck E Cheese. Worked in Lynnwood for 5.5 years and finally visit in Nov 2020, go figure. Both me and The Homie wandered the entire store and bought stuff and things. For me, music is always a vital aspect of life. Wow! The selection of cds, records and movies here was amazing! It seemed like items were in good condition too. While browsing I was able to find a lot of cds that I wouldn't have expected. They also have a great selection of new items and do a great job of displaying items that would be of interest. Loved the posters they had on display. My husband and I have undertaken a new business venture which includes acquiring lots at auction, estates, surplus, etc. at a discounted rate to then restore and bundle the goods for resale. In a recent lot we received over 250 DVDs & Blu-ray discs in pristine condition, many were special edition copies and we did our research and even called ahead to make sure they were interested in buying them as indicated on their website. We even elected to come to Lynnwood because their Seattle location doesn't pay cash for anything. Upon arrival (an hour and a half trip via light rail and walking) the disrespectful employee couldn't be bothered to even look at the DVDs which we had called about two days in a row and took the time to wipe down and check all of the discs). He basically said they weren't interested in buying DVDs as he continued to take DVDs out of the bags without looking at them and sitting them on the counter. Rather than waste any more of my time I told him I didn't want him to unpack everything I had if he wasn't going to look at it. He could have been honest on the phone but he instead chose to waste our time. What's worse, I am disabled, but can't stand being on government benefits. This has been my attempt to do something productive with the rest of my life and I don't have that much time left in this life to waste with those who are disrespectful of my time and energy. Final straw, tomorrow is one of my last birthdays and I wasted dealing with people who were blatantly disrespectful. They of course didn't know anything about my disability or my sad birthday because it shouldnt matter my sad circumstances - whatever my situation they should not have lied to me or wanted our time. I only share this review so people can have an accurate portrayal of their staff and the way they conduct their business. read more

My husband and I came shopping for with our 10 and 13 year old kids who we are introducing to the music we liked growing up. We came in looking for some vinyl's for our youngest and the staff was so friendly and helpful it made this a memorable experience. The gentleman who helped me also noticed we were interested in one artist in particular and let us know he had a spare poster we could have. My daughter has her room full of memorabilia from this artist and this is also her birthday weekend. This gesture made her day and now she will always have this awesome experience to look back on. Silver Platters reminds me of the heydays of Sacramento based Tower Records, a place where you can find almost anything related to music, and knowledgeable people to help you find what you are looking for. Audiophiles will appreciate the fact that places like these are still around, albeit, is not Hollywood's Amoeba. 2018 in an era of streaming services as the primary medium of music distribution, Silver Platters is more like an archeological find. read more

Although I enjoy coming here, I've realized that there are far more affordable used music/movie stores out there. Items here, whether new or used, are a tad pricey compared to other places I've seen. My first time here and was quite disappointed. They definitely have a nice selection and I grabbed a few things. But, when I was looking at the records on the wall. A guy was pricing albums and I saw something in his hand that I wanted and he said it wasn't for sale. I thought it was weird and he put it back in a box with a name on it. I asked of they were holding it. He said it wasn't quite for sale yet. Then another customer after the employee walked off told me that the employees hold records for themselves and relist and sell them on resale sites. If they don't eventually sell then the employees put them on the floor for sale. An md when I looked back there. It has all the employee names with humdreds of records on hold. Love this store. Relocating from their store in Seattle near the Northgate Mall, Silver Platters has expanded on square footage as well as on aesthetic. The musty, dead carpet is gone and they now have a much cleaner, updated store. Same great, knowledgeable and helpful employees working here. Massive parking available due to the nearby convention center. Appreciate the prices being marked down on newly released music. Still have plenty of vintage vinyl. Give them your phone number when you shop and after a few purchases, you'll earn a free CD. read more

I only wanted one LP from them, but they had so many cheap mint copies of other things that I went through a youtube rabbit hole and ended up adding a ton of stuff to try out because why not? Well it turned out they were out of one of the things I ordered, but they had great communication and contacted me quickly to let me know and see how I'd like to adjust the order (since combined shipping is a factor on online purchases). So I actually was recommended this store from the Fred Meyer on 196th when I was looking for a season DVD and from how excited the sales guy was to tell me about this shop, I thought why not...it's down the street. I almost got lost looking for it but a u-turn later and I was inside this cool store that reminded me of some record stores in Seattle. This place is pretty good size and I couldn't believe how organized it was! I found vinyl records for bands and different genre periods I have been looking for for years plus their prices for the DVDs were pretty good. I wish I had more cash on me and then I would have bought way more. The cashier was really nice too. And with me toting around my 9 month old, the cashier was super helpful in helping me carry my items up to the counter. This store is awesome! The staff have always been polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. If they don't know, they'll look it up. Ordering is quick, and if they can get it for you, they will. Good record & CD selection, abit of everything for everyone. DVD & Blu Rays too. I could boo hoo they weren't playing my favorite albums all day everyday (probably Nickelback) or on record store day, but I'm a big boy, not a precious snowflake that might melt if if i hear something i don't like, or leave damaging reviews on a place for your own selfish reasons that have NOTHING to do about how they conduct business. This has been my "home" CD store for years, way back into Northgate days. Thanks for the rewards card and losing the coupons! Lynnwood is getting to be a bit picked over as of late and I am having to look long and hard and then not finding much. The folk selection in particular is empty. Even though I only got to stay for about 20 minutes before it closed, it was nice. I was so happy when I saw a Silver Platters in Lynnwood because I only knew of the one in Northgate. Now there's a record store I can visit often! The staff is really nice and they're open to any questions. The downside was that it was quite difficult to find a CD I was looking for because some of the discs weren't in alphabetical order (maybe because it opened recently?).
