The customer service was awful. They were incredibly rude when I came in to sell my books. This was my first time in this store. I walked in, waited at the front cashier, waiting my turn. The cashier never acknowledged me, and began ringing up another customer who had just arrived. Did not ask if I needed help. When I made my way to the back of the store to sell, the attendant was rude. Was very short, and did not give me the option to say no to the lowball offer. Items are available to look up online and there is a variety of in-store offerings both across genres and within a given genre. The shelving set-up is straightforward to navigate and I have not felt cramped on space. Prices can be lower than some of the big chain book stores. Books have tended to be in good condition. Parking is a large shared lot. Workers have always been alert, ready to help, and informative in my experiences coming here. read more

The Lynnwood Half Price Books is my favorite location in the greater Seattle area (though I still miss the closed long-ago University/Seattle location). The staff is friendly. The store is well stocked. If I am selling, the sell area seems to move along smoothly. The store has all the usual categories with books, music, movies, comics, video games, some toys, and miscellaneous items that the store bought from customers. They sell all items at half off retail. Occasionally, the half-off pricing is calculated based on current retail price, not the price on the book, which feels unfair. The clearance sections are my favorite to browse. It used to be $2 books; now it is $3. It is still a bargain. There are multiple clearance section that are adjacent to the main sections; be sure to walk around the store. They also sell new books at 20% off and some new gift items such as journals that are very fair priced. read more

I was visiting the area and thought I'd stop by. I had been here before and found some nice items on previous visits. I found a boxed copy of the DC Universe Role Playing Game. I took it to the counter and asked to examine it. Inside, I found that four of the unique dice needed to play the game were missing. I pointed this out, and I was told that because it was a new acquisition for the store, they would only reduce the price by 20%. They replaced the sticker with a new price but did not label the box as incomplete or missing pieces. One of the salespeople explained that I could go online and find or have my own dice made. The bottom line is that they had an incomplete item and reshelved it. Hoping someone else will purchase it. The experience left a bad feeling, and I just left without making any purchases. Awesome store with decent prices. Every now and then something will make you wonder if it's all really half-price (one example: outdated car and tool manuals from the 1970's cost as much as modern ones), but generally prices are fair and consistent. Staff is extremely neutral as far as temperament but have never turned me down for help. Great place if you look to browse and keep to yourself. This place would be five stars except I think for trade-ins they pay even less than similar "sell us your old media" stores. I mean like pennies on the dollar; however low you think the offer will be, it's even lower. I'm not talking like torn-to-pieces trade paperbacks: I've traded in mint, recent hardbacks and it's all about the same. Which isn't a big deal to me because anything I trade has been read to death and I'm more interested in passing it onto a new reader. But anyone looking for even an unfair trade will be disappointed. Now I just take my books to Goodwill. All that being said, this is for sure a nice place to be. The staff keeps to themselves but are very helpful when needed, which is perfect for most bookworms. A decent HPB. To be honest my expectations were different when I went here. I was specifically looking for some academic books. They do have a big selection for the fictions. Plenty in all age groups. When it comes to the academic area, I found it mostly dry. The only reason I went to HPB is that I have always found books I wanted there. And this is the nearest HPB from my place. very disappointed with that selection. It's part of a big shopping center. Plenty of parking around. Staffs are ok. There were only a couple when I walked in. They greeted me with a smile; but later I could find only one person who's in charge of the front desk. When I had some questions and needed some help, he could only direct me to certain aisles. Still picked up couple of books on that day. have to try elsewhere for the books I wanted! read more

This is a great little location, but as with any second hand store, your experience will vary. The staff here is helpful and friendly, and they have lots of fun and interesting gift items as well as great books. To sell: Bring in your books and go all the way to the back of the store. The person at the back register will request your name and cell number and will call your name over the intercom once they've calculated an offer. You can peruse the store then they'll give an offer and if you take it they'll give you a paper receipt to take to the front desk. If you've requested books from another location, the front desk will have them in a stack along with your name and you can apply that credit to the new books, or presumably they can cash it out for you too. Got a good trade last few times I've been in and they even helped me order books for pickup from another location (unfortunately one of the books had heavy wear but was priced the same as it's more gently used counterpart so I'm not sure if I'll be ordering used books sight unseen like that again) You're not gonna make some big profit, it's more finding a home for those books you no longer use and getting a deal on your next read without becoming a bookseller yourself. As others have noted, OK place to buy books but a terrible place for selling books. I've seen people bring in boxes of books in good condition only to be offered $2-$3 for them all. I recently brought in 20 books, many signed, all in excellent condition. Nothing really valuable, just saleable. The offer was for $1.19. If I was told "sorry, we can't use any of these" then OK, but they said they would take all of them. That offer amounted to about 1% of likely retail price. If their business model is "donate books for us to sell" then say so. Pretty sure if I had slipped a really valuable book into the mix the offer would not have changed. I kept the books and will donate them to a charity. read more

Seattle Half Price Books closed their Capitol Hill and University District locations. My book fix has been managed by other indies and yes, guilty of using Amazon too. Finally, a book title of interest came to mind while up in Edmonds last Saturday (9/22/18), so I decided to check out the Half Price Books in Lynnwood. Careful where you park though, cars kind of whizz by fast getting to Trader Joe's, Safeway and other nearby businesses! It had been ages since my previous visits, and definitely pre-Yelp. Ventured in and made a bee line to the cookbook section first. Wow lots of titles, really I should have exercised patience with other titles I bought elsewhere. Excellent selection and decent condition of the books I looked through. Wandered the entire store and most sections, with that inner voice on an endless loop, must exercise self control. This bibliophile's second floor of her townhome will collapse from the weight of adding more books! Didn't find the intended title, but bought two other books instead. Terrific customer service. Glad my purchases were placed in a plastic bag. The sudden downpour drenched me getting to my car. Didn't matter, this HPB location was a ray of sunshine for this Yelper. read more

I am very disappointed with this business. I have taken books up several times and each time I vowed to never go again. But then I find myself doing it. No more!!! No matter what I take there they tell me they are of no value. I had some Nicholas Sparks, Nora Roberts and Elin Hilderbrand books which they told me were worth nothing but when I looked on their shelves they had some of all these authors , and they were not cheap. I don't think they are very upfront and honest about buying books. My books were all hardcovers. Some never even read before so they were in great condition. They said that hardbacks are not in my favor. But I wanted to buy one in same genre and it was 14.95. That should mean they are worth something. When I said I would keep a few they were not paying me for I was told that they were figured into my offer and I could not have them. Okay, mind you my offer was 5.40! For over 25 hardcover books. I asked since they were not paying me for them why couldn't I have them and was told they send them to a discounted store to sell! WHAT?? So they are selling them anyway, but not paying me anything. Not a good way to do business. It cost me more in gas to go there then what they paid me for all my books. BEWARE ! I was going to buy a book I found there but decided to pass....that's the game, keep you in the store while they figure a lowball offer and hope you spend some money. read more

I have very fond memories of stocking up on board books and bedtimes stories before I had my kiddos. I still enjoy cruising all of aisles to see what random goodies I can add to my collection. The other favorite here is the notecards. I stock up on my thank you cards every time I come in. They are super cute and much less expensive than elsewhere. This particular Half Price Books location is basically ebay, or discogs, the store. Why would you shop here when the hardcover 1st editions, LPs, comics, cassettes and even CDs are priced at the high end of the discogs marketplace and ebay? If you wanted to pay a price that's reflected by the high end of the collectibles market, you'd just save yourself the trouble, and buy online. Very few, if any, deals to be found here. read more

Half Price Books surprised me by what they offer. I thought it was just a used bookstore. I had no idea until I visited one that they have new books, journals, artist drawing books, comic books, small gifts and also used vinyl, DVDs, blue rays, CDs, audio books and collector items. No interaction with staff even though we saw some. It was busy while we were there, and we didn't need anything so no complaints. You can bring your music, movies and books in to the very back of the store to sell. We checked out the books and music under lock and key as you can see them through the display case. They have an original Harry Potter book for $50, same on audio book for $150, an old dictionary for $50 and some medical volumes for $100. There's a section of hardcovers autographed by the authors. I mentally noted that to come back here to get a gift for someone. Used CDs were going for $4 each and in the clearance section, they had some for $1. Used the bathroom which is one room for all. It was clean but needed more paper towels and the broken lock on the cabinet wasn't nice to look at. Parking was a breeze as there's a lot of it available in this strip mall. read more

When I moved out of California, I was so sad thinking that I may never be able to visit another HPB. The one in Fremont, CA was huge, but a bit too far from me, so I certainly couldn't go visit as often, but now that I live much closer to the one in Lynnwood, I'm there all the time. It's certainly a bit smaller, but it still has a pretty decent variety of books, music, and movies. Though I haven't had much interaction with the staff, they seem pretty helpful to other customers. When it comes to selling your books or movies to any HPB, it's a hit or miss. If you desperately want to get rid of old books while receiving a bit of cash, even if it's just a couple of dollars, this is the best way to go. However, if you're selling bigger items, such as games or collectors items, it might be best to sell it on your own. I was about to sell a classic Nintendo game to them, but I was only going to get $10 out of it. I decided to sell it on my own and sold it for $80. read more

I have sold far more than I have bought here, and I am happy with how all the transactions have gone. During moves, during clean-outs, and after we lost my dad, I have brought box upon box of books and VHS tapes here. Their offer prices are always fair, and they're up front if they catch something valuable in the box--they offer a fair price for it. They're buying it on a margin that leaves them some profit, but they're sooooo much easier than parting everything out on eBay. I have put some of the money back into the store buying books and movies as well. Their stock is always churning of course, and I can always find stuff that interests me. They do a good job of hiring nice people who really dig their product--you get some quiet bookworm types on staff here, but that's the preferred approach for staffing a bookstore of course. Overall, HPB doesn't offer the best buy prices in town, nor the best selection. But I can pick up quite a few things here and save myself trips into the U-District when I need to sell. I am glad this place is here, and it's always packed with people of all ages. They do a lot for book shoppers in the Lynnwood area--they're certainly a more interesting option than the big chains at the mall. read more

Located right next to the Lynnwood Trader Joe's it's a hard habit to break... buy something at TJ's and at HPB's and you are set for the weekend! It's a chain store worth looking at. Avoid this place on the weekends. The parking lot will give you grey hairs and cause you much profanity as you inch your way through. That said, this location has superlative staffing and great finds if you are patient enough after the parking headache. You can pick up some swag at the bookstore, then walk over to Trader Joe's for some wine. Weekend plans set! And I love HPB. I worked for them back in Texas and while the pay wasn't spectacular, the benefits and customers made it worthwhile. This Half Price Books location is a good one. They have a pretty decent selection of items. Obviously you may not be able to find exactly what you are looking for since they mainly have used items, but you at least have a pretty good shot! I've bought several items here recently - some books and CDs. All were in very good shape and priced reasonably. I do wish their manga and comic sections were a little bit bigger, but I suppose they can only shelve what they have in stock at the time from booksellers. Staff here are super friendly. There is one employee who has helped us search for items on numerous occasions and he rocks. I wish I knew his name, but sadly I don't. Location is great right next to Trader Joe's. The parking lot can get pretty cramped sometimes due to lots of cars coming and going, but if you park a little bit further away from the entrance, you'll have no issues. read more

This place has a wonderful selection taking into consideration the size of it. Its close to where i live and i like to waltz in on my days off just to relax and peruse with a cup of coffee on my day off. They have a great selection of games too as well with friendly and knowledgeable staff to direct you. I cant knock it at all and i suggest it to anyone in the area with time to kill and who has a love to good reading material. More comfortable places to sit and a cafe would earn it 5 stars in my book. But regardless, i doubt you will be disappointed! read more
