Needed a seamstress to take in my daughters' flower girl dresses and Yelp led me to Vanessa. Very smooth process and conveniently located in Kihei. Called Vanessa, scheduled an appt a couple weeks later. At the fitting consultation she had some good suggestions on what ribbon to use for belt and had to get creative with taking in the top of the dresses because of the lace. Dress was ready a week before the wedding and they fit like a glove. She does work out of her home, so don't be too thrown off when you pull up to that address. My maid of honor strapless dress needed some major alterations. Of course this short girl needed some major length cut off & it was also a little loose. I also mentioned about how I hated wearing a strapless bra & Vanessa asked if I would like pads sewn in. Great,problem solved! I tried on my dress & was shocked how quickly she just started cutting away at the length. She does not mess around, thats for sure! I was really in no rush to get the dress back, but she had it ready for pick in 3 weeks. She's really busy as you see when step into her room & see the other bridesmaid & wedding dresses in there. Three things done to my dress for $100, I would say is pretty reasonable. Don't forget, she is cash or check only. I forgot & had to run to the ATM machine. Vanessa is amazing!! My friends dog ripped one of my beloved Free People skirts and I honestly thought it was beyond repair. I called her to see if she could fix it, along with a few other items. Within a few days I had dropped the items off with her and she was extremely confident that she could repair the items. One item I have repaired myself in the past, but I just didn't have time to do it. I explained that I was not in any kind of a rush to have them fixed, I just wanted to be able to wear them again. I came to the island for a wedding and my zipper broke the night before leaving New York. Vanessa does like you to call ahead and not just show up like I did - unbeknownst to me she is by appointment only. However she was very accommodating to switch out a zipper in a 24 hour timetable. she also fixed a pull, a slight fabric tear and put a hook and eye at the top. Vanessa is amazing! I called a few weeks before my wedding -- letting her know I'd be flying in on a Wednesday with the wedding on Saturday. She had me drop off my dress and the groom's suit on Wednesday afternoon to pick up Thursday evening since she's closed on Friday. Pricing was very reasonable (flat rate for grooms!!) When I arrived Thursday, the dress was beautifully presented to me & ready to go. But after learning I would be going to dinner before heading home, she immediately suggested we come back to pick up the dress Saturday morning instead so the dress wouldn't be inside the dress bag for hours. This was probably the worst customer experience I've ever had. I made my appointment a month ago for my wedding dress to be hemmed/ have the sleeves removed. When I got there I called & asked if it was okay that I bring my 1 year old with me & she said yes as long as I keep her "contained". I am a mom of two & since my fiancé worked I had to ask his brother for help. He was watching my toddler in the car & I knew my baby was going to cry if I left her with him so I assumed she would do better if I brought her. Vanessa asked me to get dressed & while I was getting dressed my baby started crying. She was clearly VERY triggered by that and stormed into the room mid me changing & was yelling things like "no put your closes back on you're gonna have to reschedule" & "I'm not dealing with this". I honestly can't express through text how rude she was it completely took me off guard. Now don't get me wrong I fully understand having to reschedule since my baby was crying but the way she handled it was the most unprofessional thing I've ever experienced. I told her she should have more compassion & when I got back to my car I just cried. I am a very non confrontational person & am still in shock that this happened. Grown adults should be able to control their emotions better than that ESPECIALLY with a customer. read more

Vanessa was very nice at FIRST. I went to her because I couldn't find anyone els that could do alterations on the island, she had many amazing reviews which convinced me she would be a great choice so I decided to book with her. I needed my jeans to be modified, they fit my lower legs and thighs fine, the issue I had with them was that I couldn't button the waistband , so I was looking to enlarge the top part of them. I explained to her before my appointment over the phone, what I wanted to be done to them and Vanessa said she could do it, no problem. After meeting with her, she told me she couldn't do what I requested with my jeans, because of the fabric, and because of the style of my jeans. I was fine with that, I understood why she couldn't do it because of the many patters/fabric I had on my jeans. My experience took a turn when she made an APPALLING comment about my body/weight. Because my jeans didn't fit me she said something along the lines of, hopping on a treadmill. In that moment I was shocked that she really commented on my body. I don't know what her intentions where by saying that but that comment was really unnecessary and unprofessional. read more
