The beach is a short walk over -- just follow the sand. :) We ventured into the neighborhood behind the park to check out the lovely homes, each with their own personality. The people were so friendly to wave and say 'hi' as we walked by. There's two good size parking areas -- pay to park machines are easy to find.

Literally, when we got past the sand dune, and the view of the waves opened up, her jaw dropped and her wagging tail was in overdrive. I had to carry her, but she seemed to love that ocean air and the glorious cool breeze (I sure did). I need to move there. That is all.

If the lot is full you can try to find parking on San Nicholas or on Ocean where there are several little beach access points between the homes... Also if you drive all the way down ocean, at the very end, at the last house there's a hidden road that looks like a private driveway but it's not, turn right, it's long and tight, and it will take you to another small beach parking lot!! A hidden gem! There's even a public bathroom out on the sand, a bit of a walk from the lot and very clean! Highly recommend!

They hide in the rocks and under the rocks. All very tame and not afraid of you. The waves can be great. Lots of lifegaurds in case you get stuck. There is plenty of parking. Now as I visit as a (dare I say..."Tourist") I get to enjoy the beach full time. Why is this one the best you ask? Well, it stretches out for about 50 feet before the water gets deep. This makes it perfect for kids who want to play in water but can't swim. Also the parking is only $2 per hour. And it's normally extremely chill here. Never too busy or crowded. The seafood restaurant is also really great and fresh! I love it here and if I was rich I'd buy a home across the street.

I hear of this place every summer but never had the chance til this week. What a great place for kids to enjoy water play. But actually for the entire family too! We went during free swim time from 12-4pm and it was only $10 for ages 3 and up. There's a big shallow kiddie pool with water activities and then 2 water slides on the back side of the park. There's a rec pool that maybe goes to 4.5 ft depth so it's perfect for just enjoying the water when you can't lap swim because the pool is crowded. A large picnic table area can be found in the middle of the center too so you can being lunch and snacks too. There a larger Olympic size pool on the west end of the center that can be used for lap swimming so overall it's great for all ages and swimming levels. We're planning to be here quite a bit for the summer! There's also cabanas to change into and showers to rinse off before and after swimming.

Even superheroes love this pool!

This is a great spot for beginning surfers…read more My friends and I used to surf here often. Lately we have been surfing at County Line, but we are planning on coming back soon. This is a real nice place to surf. The break is gentle and rolls in and sometimes reforms, so it is great for longboards. The atmosphere and friendliness of local surfers here is better than anywhere else and this is a great beginner spot to surf; granted, it is up there and way up, just north of Ventura. It is worth the drive though and parking is free just off PCH next the railroad tracks. Be warned, you cannot park here prior to 7am. So if you are here for a dawn patrol be ready to move the car if the park rangers are ticketing. Also, during parts of the year, their are many rocks on entry and exit so booties can be a must here for beginning surfers. Also, the Yelp map for this location is slightly wrong. Keep driving NW (north on PCH) until you reach a distinct white bicycle set up as a memorial to a fallen rider/surfer and you have arrived. As far as the below reviews about the steep rocks, this is true but there is a concrete step like path down next to the chain link fence next to the 1st residential house at the beginning of this spot.
