I've done this hike in Jan./Feb. no problem, but I just tried this hike in July and made the mistake of not bringing bug spray. I got absolutely eaten alive by mosquitos and had to turn around about half way up because the bites. I would have a cluster of 3-6 of them on each of my arms every couple of steps. If I stopped to catch my breath even more would stop and bite me. Definitely bring bug spay!!

Now as I visit as a (dare I say..."Tourist") I get to enjoy the beach full time. Why is this one the best you ask? Well, it stretches out for about 50 feet before the water gets deep. This makes it perfect for kids who want to play in water but can't swim. Also the parking is only $2 per hour. And it's normally extremely chill here. Never too busy or crowded. The seafood restaurant is also really great and fresh! I love it here and if I was rich I'd buy a home across the street.

Tons of sycamore trees fill the campground. There are fire pits, each site has running water, there are bathrooms, showers for a small fee (get tokens), gate closes each night at 10 pm so no one is driving by your campsite, safe and quiet feeling. Spectacular scenery - Venice, Santa Monica Pier, Malibu and delightful wild life including lots of sea lions and dolphins. The boat is beautiful and spacious- plenty of room for our group to enjoy the covered back area and take in the sunshine and lovely weather on the bow. Captains Marla and Scott took great care of us - they are experienced and knowledgeable sailors but also very professional and hospitable. We enjoyed nice food and adult beverages, listened to great music and chatted and laughed while enjoying a day on the water. I highly recommend Del Rey Boating and I am looking forward to my next adventure with them.
