A very nice place in Hughesville, and quite an unexpected find as we travelled! The place is beautiful on the inside with a bit of nostalgia sprinkled here and there. It's been a restaurant for decades, though the names have changed. I ordered the Rachel (Turkey Reuben) with the beer-battered fries, and my husband ordered the double stack. No surprise there, as he is the burger aficionado. The Rachel was just fine, but the coleslaw was heavily mayo-based. My only complaint. The fries were perfect. My husband loved the burger. Not in his top ten, but that does mean much as long as he says he likes it. Our bartender was so nice! She filled us in on the history of the place and was on top of the service from the get go. Chanced on this spot in Hughesville, PA on the way to World's End State Park. Loved everything about it. Great friendly service, delicious food and very reasonable prices in the very pleasant atmosphere of an old home converted to a tavern. We ordered the Steak and Seafood Platter. Steak was tender and flavorful, the crab cake was broiled to perfection. Will definitely return and will recommend to friends. read more

Went here in November with some friends to celebrate birthdays. The food was very good and so was the service.

The fried pickles were the best we ever had and we are connoisseurs. I had a burger and my honey had a salad. They were both good. The staff and clientele had us considering moving to this great town for this great place. read more

SilverThorn Tavern opens at 4pm everyday (except Sun & Mon) when they're closed. So let's say you're going antiquing in nearby Muncy on a Saturday.... and you go to a couple of antique shops... and you definitely decide that "Country Store Antiques & Decor" is the best... and then you're leaving Country Store with your brand new vintage oyster tin the size of a paint can... and your friend who's a history buff convinces you to go look at the nearby Quaker meeting house... and you walk out in the hot sun looking at graves - some from the mid 1800's some from early 1900's and even some from the 1700's if memory serves you right... And you're real parched and you know that they're cooking dinner at the lake house where your friends are staying, but you just can't wait 2 more hours till dinner... And you haven't eaten a thing that day cause you wanted to get an early go on antiquing... Cause who knows... Would that giant oyster tin the size of a paint can still be there if you bothered to stop and indulge in a big lunch... And good thing you didn't take the risk cause now that tin is all yours... and you even got the price down a little bit... but you won't say what the price is on Yelp cause you're a bit embarrassed about how much you paid for an old tin... But it caught your eye and it's just really cool... SilverThorn Tavern might be the perfect place to stop by. 4.5 Stars on Yelp with 21 reviews while I'm writing this, and I honestly believe that rating is spot on I ordered 3 Shrimp Cocktail Appetizers *Laughing Crying Face* and a baked potato My friend ordered the stuffed corn fritter things ( can't remember their name right now) and a giant pretzel The shrimp was cooked perfectly. They were seasoned well. And if you're asking yourself... man did Mike eat 36 shrimp for dinner with a baked potato. You wouldbe SO close to right. I gave one shrimp to my friend, so in fact I had 35 shrimp for dinner with a baked potato. Listen, I've actually ALWAYS wanted to see how many shrimp would make me full. It's a question I've had gnawing at my conscience for decades. Whenever you eat shrimp, you always eat it with something else. But what if you were JUST to eat shrimp? How many shrimp would you need to make you full? Turns out that I was pretty darn happy with 35 and a baked potato. Man... if I could turn back time to that shrimpfest. Obviously it depends on the size of the shrimp. These shrimp I would think are large or even maybe extra large. Either way, they were delicious, well cooked, well seasoned. Would 100 percent get again. Also the staff at the restaurant were super pleasant. They greeted us when we came in the door. They helped us with menus. They were all around top notch servers. We got to SilverThorn Tavern at around 4:10 I wanna say (10 minutes after opening). This place fills up quick! I mean... by the time we left there must have been at least 6 or 7 tables sitting around us. It is definitely a popular spot in town. One note - the pretzel my friend got was the size of a small pizza. It was ENORMOUS. I mean... I'm not sure I've seen a pretzel bigger. It comes with a cheese sauce and it could probably feed 4 as an appetizer if you got it for that purpose. If you're looking for a place that does fresh seafood in Hughesville, your options are somewhat limited. Thank goodness for SilverThorn. Got re directed by gps or something and ended up in the metropolis of Hughesville it was dark like at 445 pm and pitch dark at six. Some how found this place. Caution there is a shady place across the street with a barely readable sign that you wouldn't believe if you saw it on bar rescue, what a joke no that's not Silver thorn tavern. Any how this place is quite nice totally unexpected exp. In small town Merica. Literally in the central No coast Pennsyltucky you can get crazy good shrimp tacos who knew? . I also had wings appetizer they were huge by current wing standards. So many places are sadly serving Cornish chicken wings! Unfortunately the "hot" were mild in my opinion and like the Boom boom shrimp that I ordered after my shrimp tacos were slightly over cooked. Definitely better than rubbery / spongy under wings that get in oil that's not the right temp! These were just a bit over! The place is really decorated to the nines with holiday spirit! Alexa behind the bar was great , even met Mr Joe the chef . Super friendly family establishment. The room for improvement area obviously can't be helped., Parking! Was tight on the street, the big tables IN THE BAR area all be it fit in the space, but have no business being sat with infants at 7pm on a Saturday in my opinion, beer sports and cry babys ( hard pass ! ). Beer options were good and bar clean like clean to a fault . Seriously you DONT NEED TO have sanitizer ON THE BAR besides being unappetizing it's a liability If one of the children sitting at tables in the area actually got a hold of it got sprayed or it somehow got in someone's drink wow. read more

We went for Mother's Day. We had a table of 12 people, and there was one other large table. The tables were so close together, that when we arrived, we couldn't pull out our chairs to sit. We adjusted by moving our table a little. The food was very good, however, they ran out of salad dishes, and my sister-in-law had to wait a long, long time for her salad. She got her meal before she got her salad. We had only one server, so I could understand the meals coming out a varying times, but the salad bowl dilemma was unusual. I'm not sure if I'd go back. We live about 45 minutes away, and I don't think it would be worth the trip. read more

It's so dirty inside of here, especially in the back. The stairs to go in are even broken and sketchy. It is cheap, and, unless you are looking for drunk food, it is not a place you should go for a meal. The beer battered fries are fine, but really salty. The burgers are the quality of a fast food restaurant. The steak they put on their salads is just fat, and their salads are full of wilted vegetables that could barely pass for vegetables (i.e., iceberg lettuce...). Do not even attempt to get soup; when they do have it, it seems like a nice idea...until you taste it. Soup should be one of the EASIEST things to make. This was our first time eating here. I was immediately impressed with the rustic decor and overall ambience. The staff was extremely friendly and everything on the menu looked delicious. We started with the appetizer special of Drunken Shrimp which consisted of a dozen shrimp marinated in Guinness beer and Old Bay Seasoning. For our entrees, I got the fresh tuna Caesar salad (I get Caesar salad's a lot so I think I am a good judge of a these). Was I pleasantly surprised when it arrived with 2 small heads of GRILLED Romaine lettuce and a very rare (as requested) piece of fresh tuna steak in a perfect dressing. My husband got the crab cake platter which consisted of 2 nice size crab cakes that were more crab than filler and a side of a baked potato. The restaurant itself is in a beautiful old building that is nicely decorated. We came in on s Thursday night for dinner. We entered one door and there was no one there to direct us to a table, so we went back outside and tried another door. This seemed to be the main entrance, but once again no one or even a sign was there to let us know if we should seat ourselves or wait for someone to show us to s table. We finally wandered around and found a table ourselves. We saw several people dealing with the same thing. We ordered a hamburger, a fish sandwich and a Reuben. It took a long time to get our food and I believe it had sat awhile before getting to our table. The food tasted good but there are some things that could be improved. read more

This is the 3rd time in a month and a half I've picked up food to go from here. The first time I picked up food I waited at the end of the bar only to have the female bartender look through me and not acknowledge my presence. I moved to the cash register side of the bar and finally was acknowledged by her. The second time, same thing, wasn't acknowledged and they forgot my salad as well. Tonight, 09/18/20, AGAIN, no acknowledgement from the SAME female "bartender" as she stood no more than 3 ft in front of me and looked right through me. And to top it off, it wasn't even busy (one person at the bar and many empty tables). It took a waitress working the dining area to acknowledge me and ask if "she"(the bartender) was helping me to which I replied, "Nope." The waitress ended up getting my to go order. I noticed customer service going downhill everywhere (restaurants, stores, fast food joints) and this place is no different. I apologize if I'm not the barfly regular that doesn't need or want to be there. But this is ridiculous to not even have common courtesy to acknowledge my presence for an order for which I paid. I try to support local whenever possible but I can definitely tell you I won't be back. I will tell people of my experiences at this establishment. Up to them if they want to subject themselves to the poor customer service that I experienced. read more

Tried the Silver Thorn Tavern for the first time and it won't be my last. I tried the Delmonico Steak with salad and fresh cut french fries. The steak was the best steak I've had in a long time. Cooked just right and seasoned perfectly. My sister had the same and agreed it was a quality steak. My brother-in-law had the broiled haddock which he said was good. And my niece had the Smothered Chicken with cheese, bacon and honey mustard sauce. Also a positive review. The decor is welcoming. The owners wives were decorating for Christmas and stopped to ask how the meals were. It was nice to see they have an interest in their patrons. Our waitress was also friendly and prompt. Good to see a fairly new place offer an alternative to the chain restaurants. I look forward to eating here again. read more

First visit and I'm hooked! Super friendly staff and owners made a point to chat. Very attentive waitress. Great beer special and food was served quickly - was hot - was cooked to perfection. Seafood platter which means cooking different items could be difficult but everything was just right. Seasoning was not overdone so I could taste the seafood. Food was plentiful. Never had blood orange vinaigrette dressing - OMG wanted to lick the salad bowl. I would rate it one of the best seafood platters I ever had and I've had many.
