One of the many fantastic things about Silverado is that they do an amazing job of making assisted living and memory care as "normal" as possible. There are resident dogs, cats, birds, fish and even some young children that come to work with a parent. This helps keep the atmosphere of being there full of life. They have fun, interesting activities and interactions that make each day for our loved ones better. They have a little store with all kinds of items (scarfs, blankets, jewelry, fun decorating items, some toiletries, etc.) that are free for residents to take and keep. They have a Bistro area inside the main entry that has snacks, juice, water and coffee available all day. They also use this area for residents to gather for exercise, crafting, games, musical entertainment, theme party days, discussions and a care giver reads the local newspaper daily. The entire staff are top notch. Compassionate, attentive, and ready to problem solve at any given moment. The care givers constantly work on keeping up with the personal hygiene of residents. There are so many call buttons throughout the facilities for residents and family to push for assistance. One or more care givers usually respond within a few minutes of activation. The entire facility is a 100 times more clean than the other 3 assisted living places we tried before Silverado (not even close).There hasn't been one time that I have been to visit family (twice a week) when there wasn't a cleaning crew making the rounds. Our parents transitioned to Silverado Memory Care late last year. After nearly three years in three separate residential situations and pretty horrible conditions, we nine adult kids were both relieved and gratified that they were finally in a caring and supportive environment that they had deserved all along. We were first attracted by the facility itself which is, even on a dark day, full of light, clean, and welcoming. There is a beautifully landscaped open courtyard and a variety of gathering spaces for residents and their families. The food is fresh and appealing; the bedrooms are roomy. But the real attraction is the staff. Silverado has what might be described as a deliberate "code of conduct" for its residents and staff. This means every resident is treated with gentle kindness and respect, even during challenging times. The staff seem to know everyone by name, their distinctive personalities and life experiences. They are constantly working to get everyone out of their rooms and engaged in an amazing panoply of experiences, which might include hearing the news of the day, listening to a live local band, arranging flowers, making fresh fruit skewers, engaging in light exercises and stretching, getting to know the resident cats and dogs, going to a sock hop, and celebrating holidays and special occasions. The residents are having fun, still enjoying life. The staff believes, like we do, that being an older person with memory problems doesn't mean that they shouldn't have a high quality of life or be diminished as human beings. Our parents have blossomed in this environment. When our mom was nearing the end of her life, they were solicitous towards her, making sure she was comfortable and felt loved, because she was. They supported us, her family, every step of the way, a rare positive gift during a difficult experience. Our dad is still going strong and thriving in the care of his own family and the one at Silverado. We are eternally grateful that both of our parents found their spot at last. read more

Silverado has been a lifesaver for my family. Mom was on a quick decline in assisted living. Since the moment she moved into Silverado, she's found a quality of life not possible for her anymore. She smiles, she is happy, she speaks positively about every aspect of Silverado unsolicited. I have been very involved in her move and have witnessed every aspect of this community and all caregivers and staff, and they are AMAZING! You can feel the love they have for their jobs and for the residents as soon as you enter. I feared a move from assisted living to memory care would certainly involve a decline for mom, but it's been the complete opposite. I have visited virtually every memory care in Whatcom and Skagit county because BOTH of my parents have suffered from Alzheimer's and needed memory care. I wish Silverado had existed when my dad needed it. With all my experience with so many facilities I can attest that Silverado is not only the BEST memory care I've ever found, but it's the best by a long shot. It is aesthetically gorgeous. The memory care community at Silverado is outstanding. It is the clear standout for people living with Alzheimer's and Dementia. My father, who is living with Alzheimer's, has been at Silverado for only a short time. So far the process of working with the staff at Silverado has been nothing short of exceptional. Moving a loved one into a memory care community is incredibly difficult, for it encompasses so many emotions. Working with the staff at Silverado has been excellent. During this stressful time it has been incredibly helpful to work with a professional staff who clearly know their business and are deeply committed to high quality care for both your loved one moving into the community, and you and your family moving them in. Every time I visit my father, I feel welcomed. They are incredibly responsive, greet me by name, recognize me on the phone, and always have time to answer my questions. The building is beautiful, spacious, and clean. It's an inviting place to want to spend time with your loved one, and there is even an outdoor playground for those of us with young kids and aging parents. The inner courtyard is large and well cared for. It's obvious Silverado takes great pride in their community. Because I moved my father in the fall of 2021, I have experienced the community's COVID-19 protocols at a stage where health care settings are still expected to follow a high standard to reduce the transmission of illness at at time when many people in the community are fatigued with mask wearing and social distancing. Silverado's staff have always been wearing masks when I've visited. When I contrast this with the community we left where plastic face shields were used by some staff, and others walked the hallways without masks on, it's clear that the culture of Silverado puts the health and safety of their residents first. Finally, it is a great comfort to know that as my Father's disease progresses, he will be able to get the care he needs. His difficult journey through Alzheimer's will continue, but I take great comfort that he is living in a comfortable community, treated with respect and dignity, kept safe, and cared for by an incredibly professional staff that works hard and goes the extra mile to help him in this stage of his life. read more

Silverado Bellingham has such a wonderful inviting atmosphere for your loved ones suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's. The staff there truly cares about each resident as if it was there father or mother living there. They have dogs and cats at the facility, which makes it more like home for the residents. I know that my father in law calls it home! The minute you walk through the front door you are greeted with a smile and a warm hello. The food is excellent and served in a style that you would find at a high end restaurant. The activities that Silverado has for the residents is fantastic and they include all family members that wish to join in. Silverado is not a place to just put your loved one, but a place to enjoy the last remaining months of your loved ones life with dignity and respect. read more

It is so hard for me to write this review as my mom just passed away 5 months ago from dementia. We moved to Lake Stevens, WA from California when I retired with the thought that my mom would live with us and enjoy walking and gardening as she did most of her life, but unfortunately dementia has plans of it's own. We toured many care facilities near our home and Silverado, Bellingham which is about 70 minutes away from home. After looking at all the options it was clear without a doubt where I thought was best. Things that really stood out to me as important was; 1) The staff was very attentive and caring for the residents. 2) The enclosed courtyard allowed mom to go in and outdoors freely while remaining safe. 3) The facility, rooms, and hallways felt like an inviting home not hospital like. 4) The 2 dining rooms served wonderful food and assistance was always available for those that needed it. 5) My family and I were always welcomed and we made the 70 minute trip 2-3 times a week. 6) Mom settled in pretty quickly and made new friends with the residents, staff and their children who came to work frequently with them. Dementia and Alzheimer's is a very tough disease to watch take over your loved one and I know it is a heavy decision to make but I am pleased with the quality of life mom was able to live at Silverado, Bellingham. This facility has the look and feel of a country club. We enjoyed the ease of relocating with a family member with ALZ with the help of Silverado Dallas Turtle Creek to Silverado Bellingham WA. The staff at both locations are dedicated to helping the resident as well as the families. From the management to the food service and laundry everyone is so kind and helpful. We all appreciate the dedication the staff has to their work. The actives are very engaging and they offer so many things to keep their minds busy all day. The layout of the facility is designed to allow those who like to walk a controlled place to explore both inside and outside. The food is great and snacks are always available in the Bistro. My father thinks he is at home there and that allows us so much peace so that we may work and travel with little worry. read more

Rarely does someone have the daunting task of finding a safe and caring place for a loved one with dementia, much less three loved ones. I found Silverado when the need arose to place my 55 year old brother suffering from frontal temporal dementia. A mere two years later it became necessary to move my parents from their home on Orcas to join him. Needless to say the pressure on my brother and I to ensure that our three beloved family members would be treated with kindness, love, patience and dignity, was enormous! From the first time I met with the administrative staff at Silverado I felt the weight of this monumental decision lift from me. They have been so responsive to the needs of these three very vulnerable people. Less than a week ago we lost our mom. Thankfully her last months were filled with so many wonderful activities, including music, support animals, crafts and engaging outings. During her last months she was surrounded by the gentle and caring souls that choose the challenging work of meeting the needs of people in their last phase of life.
