Silverado on Hayworth in the Beverley-Fairfax area was highly recommended by a social services advisor, and when we explored all the options for our loved one, whom we will call "S". It became immediately clear that this was the right fit. The incredible team at Silverado met with a group of us, without S for two hours. They are filled with respect for the humanity of their residents, and take a creative and fluid approach to care. Their mission is not to warehouse individuals, but to improve their capacity and the quality of their lives. They have a holistic approach- everyone who works there, from the handyman to the people who do the laundry, is trained in dementia care, and as you walk the halls, this culture of kindness, humor, inclusion and affection is what you see all around you. We had the opportunity to decorate S's room in a beautiful way, with things from home, and also lots of color and light, making the transition from his home easier than we could have imagined. The Music therapist, Zack, a cool young guy, brilliant musician, and as we came to find out a salt of the earth guy with the capacity to open people's imaginations, was excited to meet S, as were the rest of the wonderful team there. We ended up all together with the staff, residents and our group of family and friends, playing a wonderful music jam session together. The residents seemed to open up like beautiful expressive flowers! Kind of miraculous. I never expected anything like that from a memory care center, and that was just a beginning. One of the things that the staff at Silverado do is to tell you, when they introduce residents, what they did before. "T" for example, was a law professor. He came and joined our first meeting with them because, as they told us, "He likes to sit in on the meetings." From that moment, we could see how respectful they are of the full lives of their residents. The culture of kindness, compassion and patience runs throughout Silverado. When we offer to take S out to dinner, he usually tells us that he prefers to go back to Silverado! While dementia can be cruel and heartbreaking, we've learned through this wonderful community that it can also be an opportunity to meet our loved one where he is, that one's essence can be brought out, and even enhanced, and that it can be profoundly and surprisingly rewarding. -Stay with me as this is extremely heartfelt. I was not paid or buttered up to do this review. I chose to do it. I believe all families deserve to know these things. -I toured many facilities before selecting Silverado. I actually didn't know about silverado until later on. We were in denial that we needed memory care as soon as we did. -Ok, Are there fancy senior communities with movie theatres and high end restaurant style dining rooms and large rooms? Yes. Absolutely! -Well, Silverado is like a HOME. It's not fancy, like a full service hotel, and giant rooms with kitchens. Why? Well, first off, in memory care, It is a safety issue with kitchens, and you don't even need them. And second, the residents are fed and are able to have snacks anytime. They don't need fancy. They are cared for with compassion. -When You walk into Silverado, you will see staff smiling and communicating with residents. You will see love and emotions. You will see a dog or two running around. At Silverado, your loved one will be joining a family. Not a country club. They will have access to the whole place. They can go inside and outside whenever they want. They are not locked in a hallway, like many other communities. (The communities where there are multiple levels of care). The residents at Silverado will be known as, John, who loves/loved woodworking, or Janet, who was a music teacher with 8 great grandchildren. Your family member will be living in a HOME where residents and staff are made priorities. Having staff as a priority, means, they will feel valued and appreciated. They provide excellent care. One way they are made priority is through the Dementia Education Training that is provided to every, single staff member. Yup. All job titles! Everyone interacts with residents, so everyone deserves education, and the residents deserve that too. This type of education is not a common benefit in many senior communities. Why is this training useful? Well, this allows staff to better understand all types of dementia, and the best ways to communicate and interact with families and residents. This helps everyone, including the residents. This helps residents transition much more quickly when they join Silverado! -So ask yourself. Do you want to bring your family member to a fancy hotel that locks up their memory care residents in a hallway? Oh....i know, That movie theatre sure is tempting...OR -Do you want your family member to join a community that is a HOME. That feels like a warm and welcoming home. Staff that understands brain challenges. Animals that run around. Where they can go explore inside and outside. Where they are known as people and not a diagnosis. Not as "Mark with behaviors" but he is known as Mark, who is a retired police officer, who just lost his dog before moving in. And guess what? Silverado actually requires a certain amount of pets, and Marks eyes light up now, because he enjoys the company of one of the dogs there. It is like home. So why take those things away? -If you've read this far, thank you. I want to share why i say all of this: I am a Board Certified Geriatric RN, and am Nationally Certified as a Dementia Educator and Trainer. So, needless to say, my expectations are extremely high. Extremely. I pulled my family member out of a "fancy" place due to lack of education of the staff, staff turnaround, and the inability to understand that "behaviors" are due to an UNMET NEED and not because of "Dementia." She was treated like a disease and not like a person. At silverado, our family was nervous about the "behaviors" and Silverado reassured us that she will NOT have those behaviors after a few weeks. Well, that was true!! It was amazing and has been ever Since. Their staff is compassionate and understands Dementia, and knows the person for who they are. -In communities, Think about the location of the memory care area. Ask staff what they do if a resident (not in the memory unit) has "behaviors?" If they say anything except trying to figure out what the "need" of the resident is, run away. Or don't. There's nothing easy about dealing with a loved one who needs memory care and after a two year battle with dementia for my mom we finally found Silverado Beverly place. During the last and toughest four months of her life, they welcome her in, looked after her, took incredible care of her, and got us through hospice so that she could pass peacefully at the end. We dealt with a lot of other memory care facilities during this time, and Silverado was by far the best in terms of compassion, care, and overall support whenever it was needed. No one wants to have to look into this type of situation, but I can't recommend them enough and thanks to them she was well taken care of and I was able to Spend quality time with her at the end without worrying or stressing about her more than anyone would in this situation. My only regret was we didn't get her there sooner as she would've had a better quality of life had we done so. read more

We are so happy we found a home for my family member . They treat him like a rock star and love him as one of their own. We sleep well knowing he is being well taken care of and we are able to visit and check on him 24/7. The open door policy, inclusion, activities and transparency make Bevery Place the model for the future of memory loss centers! Of course we love the menus that go with the activities, but we espeially love that the family is encouraged to participate! A terrible place for anyone with mild dementia and/or has mobility issues. My 95 year-old mother was traumatized with residents showing up in her room, eating food off of her plate, and lots of screaming and yelling. The environment was unsafe for her. She was left alone for long periods of time without anyone coming to assist her. We sent her there for all of the enrichment classes, which she rarely participated in because if anyone needs physical assistance they are often left out of activities. Of the three places we have had her, Silverado was, by far, the absolute worst care and the most expensive. Don't trust the smooth talking hype they give you to sign up. read more

My family and I moved my father, who is stricken Alzheimer's, to Silverado - Beverly Place in October 2014, after an exhaustive search for the right facility. Our only trepidation was that it seemed too good to be true. As it turns out, that concern was unwarranted... They really are that good! My Dad lived in an assisted-living facility for over 2 years before coming to Silverado. As his dementia progressed, it became clear that he needed more care, and specifically caregivers who specialize in dementia. We needed a locked facility, so he couldn't wander off, that didn't look or feel like a prison or a nursing home. My research eventually lead me to a company called Heart Light that matches an individual's specific needs with the right facility. Stacy at Heart Light (whom I highly recommend) introduced me to Silverado - Beverly Place. My first meeting with the Administrator was amazing! When I described my Dad's current living situation, and concerns for his safety, she offered to move him in tomorrow! She was talking about my Dad as if he were her Dad, and acting with the same sense of compassion and urgency. Within a week, my Dad was moved in! Silverado even had all of his pictures put up in his room prior to arrival to ease the stress of changing environments. Of course, it's the people and environment that make Silverado so great, but I have to give a nod to the facility itself. It's the only facility I've ever been in that, pardon me, doesn't smell like old people! :) I also like the complimentary valet parking, and the little dogs that run around there. It's hard to describe just how wonderful the staff are. I'm not going to list names for fear I might forget someone, but the Administrator, Caregivers, Nurses, Social Workers, Ambassadors, Dining room people, and Receptionist are incredibly caring, patient and knowledgeable. I'm so appreciative of the work they do every day! There have been more individual acts of kindness by the staff than I can count. Anyone with a parent afflicted by Alzheimer's knows how difficult it is to provide the right care for an ever-changing disease. Silverado - Beverly Place has been a godsend for my family. I only wish I could give them more than 5 stars! read more

In a time where life is difficult and our family member needed further care and support, thank goodness for memory care facility Silverado/Beverly place. We had to admit our father, and emotions were running high. From our first appointment with Stephanie to tour Silverado, until now that he's been a resident for the last 4 months, I've never had to worry for a moment because my dad is so well taken care of by them. They have so many activities, the staff are so amazing and kind, and the most important thing is that my father is well taken care of. The nurses contact me for every little thing, to keep me abreast of how dad is doing. I feel so confident that we made the right decision. In a time where he could no longer take care of himself, and we could no longer treat Alzheimer's at home, I'm grateful that we have Silverado to be there when we can't. Silverado is a awesome place for individuals with dementia and Alzheimer's but to get a hold of a nurse is very hectic. I called sometime last weekend and had been trying to reach a nurse since 9am and I repeatedly tried because I felt the front desk operator was just placing me on hold and lying saying she couldn't reach a nurse for so many reasons. So i called back around 5:30 and I believe the front desk operators name was Thea, she helped me tramendously. Not only did she put me on hold very briefly but she exercised every option to find me an available nurse to help me out. When one nurse didnt answer she kindly apologized and asked if she could try an alternate number to reach somebody to help. Finally great customer service and very helpful. I cannot say enough great things about Silverado. Their activities for each month alone are reason enough to place a family member there. There are countless activities, events, outings, and residents can do all of them, some of them, or none of them. This new formula for aging people with Alzheimers is what all of these people need...stimulation, camaraderie, care, exercise, social time, laughter, and especially music. My mom was a professional pianist her entire life, and she plays for all the residents often, without skipping a beat. I see the other residents come alive, singing to the songs they've not ever forgotten, while not remembering so many other things. Music is my mom's first and true love, and it keeps her stimulated and engaged while keeping the listeners stimulated and engaged as well. They really make sure that these people feel loved and thought of in what is otherwise a terrible disease. They are treated with respect and consideration. I am forever grateful for the love, care and support given to both me and my dear but tragically failing husband. I never had a second thought about his care at Silverado Beverly Place, from the moment he arrived till he took his last breath early this Monday morning. Each person who touched his life during his stay was kind, respectful and loving, always. As difficult as it was to see him worsen, Silverado felt like a family to come to. I was always greeted with hugs and smiles when I arrived which warmed my soul. The entire team from the amazing hard working, compassionate nursing staff, the incredibly kind and considerate care givers, the food service folks, the ever ready maintenance staff, the laundry providers, kind social workers, the skilled therapy teams, the reception staff and of course the administrative staff... all of them (hopefully I didn't leave any group out) were kind, compassionate and always supportive. And in the end, the hospice team - so available, generous, and thoughtful. Thank you for making the hardest time in my entire life so much more manageable. My sister, who had a diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer's sever years earlier, joined the ranks of Silverado residents in late 2016. We initially placed her there on a weed-to-week "respite care" basis, but it became clear pretty quickly that this would be a good fit and she assimilated into a full-time resident. The caregivers are outstanding in their compassion and intuitiveness. The building and its amenities are cheerful and well-maintained. The food is outstanding, especially for an institutional environment. There are lots of activities led by people with engaging personalities. There are four distinct outdoor areas. And residents are encouraged to interact and not just stew away in their rooms. In short, it's a happy place, despite dementia being a miserable disease. My sister has undergone several setbacks during her tenure, which is inherent to dementia, but Silverado's deep experience with the disease means that there is nothing the staff has not seen before. One of those setbacks (mercifully, a temporary one) was a period of physical aggressiveness that, at another residential facility, might well have led to her eviction. It was at that point that we learned of Silverado's policy never to banish people, no matter what they do or how troublesome they become. For that alone, given the unpredictable nature of dementia, Silverado is to be commended. There are a few concerns, all of which are minor compared to the attributes: Management seems to change with some frequency; the affiliated Silverado "at home" service, which provides one-on-one companionship, is less impressive than the main facility-based operation; And then, as others have pointed out, there is the expense -- until one computes the emotional and logistical toll of alternatives -- and it's difficult to imagine how Silverado could provide the services it does at lower rates. It is always a gut-wrenching decision to place a loved one in a new environment with the understanding that, despite all efforts, that person's condition will not improve. Silverado Beverly Place confronts that reality head-on, with a high levels of experience, practicality, and compassion. Based on our experience, one cannot do better than Silverado Beverly place. read more

My father has Alzheimer's, and when the time came to look for a memory care facility, the task was daunting and met with understandable resistance from my family. We toured a number of facilities in the Santa Monica and Los Angeles areas, but when we walked in the doors of Silverado Beverly Place, it was instantly clear that we had found the perfect place for my father. The immediate feeling was that it was a place to live, rather than a place to die. There was music playing and residents interacting with visitors, staff and each other. The space was open and light and active. It felt like a community, a place full of life and love; there are even dogs who live in the community. I knew that it was a place where my father would not only be cared for, but would also like. The day my father moved into Silverado Beverly Place was the first day in 3 years that I felt my worries ease, that I felt confident he was safe and would be cared for by loving, competent and good people. After two previous failed attempts, we won the lottery when we found a home for Mom at Silverado. It's the only place she actually fits in and feels at home. So much so that she insists it (and everything in it) belong to her. Dementia humor aside, she's so well loved and managed, we never worry about her care. One of our greatest concerns is that Mom's quite a jokester and exhibitionist. She's lost some of her wits, but not her wit. And, extrovert that she is, she thrives on attention. At Silverado, she gets all she needs and then some. Because she's more cognizant than most residents on her floor, she often attends activities downstairs with residents less cognitively impaired. Whenever I ask her how she likes it, she's always very positive. Her only complaint is with the food. My mom was a bonafide "foody," and she finds the food bland and not to her liking, so she frequently turns her nose up at lunch and dinner (breakfast is fine). If it weren't for that, I would have given Beverly Place a five-star rating. In all other ways, it's five-star plus. read more

My mother has been at Silverado Senior Living for five months and it has been a wonderful experience. There is nothing more difficult than having your parent suffer from dementia or Alzheimer's. Your parent fades before your eyes. Silverado has made this transition wonderful for my mom. I visited several places before I chose Silverado at Beverly Place. Many of them were beautiful, but so sterile. I didn't see family members anywhere and it felt like a hotel. There are also many places that want to remove your parent if their dementia gets severe. The key factor to moving my mom was Silverado's motto of treating their residents with love. In the months she has been there, I have found this to be very true. I have come in many times and I see a caregiver hugging my mom. The caregivers are genuinely lovely and loving people. I can walk in any time, so that tells me they are not trying to hide anything. I am quite protective of my mom, so I am around quite often. There are always activities for the residents, including going offsite one day a week; the chef is tremendous and has a large variety of choices; laundry is done on a daily basis; wheelchair bound residents are placed in chairs for every activity and the facility always looks lovely, including the beautiful, unusual floral arrangements. If I ever have a question or concern regarding my mother, it is addressed immediately. There is never going to be a good situation when a parent has this horrible disease, but Silverado at Beverly Place makes our situation not only bearable, but bearable with dignity. I am extremely disappointed with Silverado Beverly Place. We were looking for a transitional place for my Dad who has Alzheimers. My Mom and I had a very positive tour and conversation with the staff. Then upon arrival we were quite stunned at the "bait and switch".... We were promised a room that would be comparable the "model" room shown to us. Instead we were given a tired room (meant for a double, though we had insisted on a single room). Additionally, they assured us we could commit to 30 days (and extend if needed). Yet a phone call before we arrived and a conversation with my Mom checking in resulted in the staff pressuring us to make more than a 30 day commitment. It was so disappointing that within 10 minutes of our arrival, we wheeled my father out and departed. We have no backup plans, hence are scrambling to put together a new plan. If you are considering Silverado Beverly Place I highly recommend to do your homework!! read more

As a daughter of a ninety five year old mother with Dementia I know what it's like to make the decision to entrust your loved one to the care of others. My husband and I looked at several facilities, large ones as well as smaller board and cares, before we chose Silverado Beverly Place two years ago. My mother who is quite a charmer was not a charmer in the initial stages of her Dementia, I talked to others in the memory care community and was told that Silverado would be able to handle her. They were right. The staff is warm. My mother is always clean, well dressed and well groomed. She participates in the many daylong activities they offer. I am a mental health professional but did not know much about Dementia and I so appreciated the gentle education of the disease for us. I have gotten to know the other residents and their families and feel a bond to them as well. my husband has Alzheimer's. I took care of him at home for a number of years and then had him at Belmont - and this was a horrible experience; they said they were equipped to handle this disease but they were not. I found Silverado with the help from a Place for Mom. This has changed my life and my husband. He is happy and content. The care is loving and the caregivers really perform the difficult duties with warmth. It is important that the doctors see the residents regularly and the nursing staff take care with all the medical needs. Indeed a very difficult watching someone you love disappear before your eyes but everyone at Silverado make it much easier. Contrary to a bad report I read on another web site, Silverado at Beverly Place is very clean, the staff is caring and competent, and the residents are happy. As a safe haven for those who live there, residents can wander the beautiful outdoor patio, the dining hall, group rooms and large sitting area in the lobby. My husband has Alzheimer's Disease and has been at Silverado Beverly Place for just three months. Sadly during his short time there his condition has progressed rapidly and as much as none of us would wish to see our family members in a facility such as this, I have found Silverado Beverly Place to be the most wonderfully caring place, both for him and for me. The nurses are knowledgeable and informative and the management staff communicative and helpful. The facility is always clean, and there is a friendly, almost family like atmosphere from the moment you walk in the door and are greeted not only by the smiling people at the front desk, but also by the dogs who live there. From the first week everyone knew my husband, they also know me and who I belong to when I visit. Dealing with Alzheimer's Disease has a devastating affect not only on the person with the disease, but the entire family, and knowing your loved one is being well cared for and looked after has made my life and the lives of my family so much easier. I would highly recommend Silverado Beverly Place to anyone looking for a home for their family member with dementia. My dad is a resident at Silverado. This place is very special. They treat all residents with loving kindness and great care. No one wants to see a loved one in a facility such as this, but i must say, i find it to be as good as it gets. The staff is wonderful, the facility is clean and well kept, the food is great. My family member is looked after with respect in order to protect his dignity as much as possible. He is kept clean and is stimulated with activities (both social, creative and physical) daily as appropriate for his condition. I have NO affiliation with the facilty. My sister has an early Alzheimer's dementia. As hard as we tried keeping her how was not good for anyone. Silverado has been a wonderful saving grace. She is able to be active and involved....something we could not do for her enough at home. They are very understanding and we can take her out for lunch or an outing whenever we want. I wish this disease did not exist but if it has to this has been an outstanding alternative. It does not have that nursing home smell and that staff is wonderful. read more

Three years ago October first I rolled some big dice and put my mother on a plane from NYC to Los Angeles with mid-late stage Alzheimer's. Flanked me and and aide we landed miraculously without consequence and drove directly from LAX to Silverado Beverly Place. I had already spent time at Silverado volunteering with my son, so I knew the unique culture of this community. The founders' philosophy is all about acceptance, turning fear into love, and finding joy and laughter where others wouldn't think possible. In addition to the finely-tuned physical care of my mother, for me this is what is most compelling about Silverado. The people who work there, in every department at all levels, genuinely care about the residents, take pride in what they do, and bring as much life to the job and residents as is possible. This means you regularly find varying combinations of dogs, children, musicians, comedians, belly dancers, social workers, etc. Anyone who can enrich your loved one's life. I am very happy my dad lives at Silverado Senior Living. Overall, I believe my dad is getting very good care from all the staff. I often tell others my dad is at Silverado Senior Living and that I'm very happy with the care he receives from the whole staff. Communication between staff and family is so important. This should continue to be a goal to strive for in the future. Of course a given is treating the residents with respect and kindness. I believe this is being accomplished at Silverado Senior Living.
