My late mother spent the last 5+ years of her life at this amazing community. The team members there are so kind and supportive; super patient. They did everything to keep her life as interesting as possible given her limited capabilities. Even through Covid, they were very sweet and considerate. So many nice employees here. So I found this facility for my mother, I paid for her every month. Then my sister from another state that hadn't visited her in 40 years came in and had an old MPOA and they completely stopped talking to me. And I wasn't allowed to see, visit or even call her. I sent this letter to the staff September, 2020, 2 months after leaving. My husband, Gene, lived at Silverado for over a year. We had tried other places and by far and above, Silverado was and I'm sure still is superior. We have moved to be closer to our daughter and I'm so thankful Gene is again in a loving environment, however, Silverado is a role model. It needs to be said, also, there are wonderful walkways, courtyards & outside dining (& just sitting) and residents freely walk everywhere. Beyond refreshing. Drawback? It is costly. My father has been living at Silverado for 3 months now. I *never* expected that we would find such an attentive, skilled, patient staff. They already "get" dad on so many levels - it's like they have known him for years. Dementia has made him into a grumpy skeptic, but over time the staff have managed to gain his trust and bring some bright spots into his day. Not an easy task! It's very clear that these people are not only skilled professionals, but are truly living out their purpose on a deep level by helping people suffering from dementia. The people that see Dad every day have a very sophisticated knowledge of how to relate to the residents as individuals. Their level of empathy and good humor in the face of such difficult work is astonishing. Every time we are there we witness the most lovely interactions between residents and staff. The staff also seems to all get along very well with each other and provide support to each other. If you're reading this, you are unfortunately facing the difficult process of moving your loved one into memory care. I can't tell you that it will be easy or that there are miracles to be had, but I can share that your loved one will be in very caring hands with this team of beautiful humans. There is no place like Silverado. The unconditional compassion, love and attention they give to their residents are truly exceptional. Our mother has had multiple stokes with vascular dementia and severe psychiatric, cognitive and physical disabilities. All other memory care facilities refused to accept her. We had been kicked out of multiple skilled nursing facilities. The staff at Silverado never once flinched at the most extreme and difficult circumstances. Their staffing ratio is significantly higher than any other facility, and they have full-time RNs on-site. Visit and you will see. Read the book from their founders. We are truly lucky to have this resource in our community. Our mom actually got dramatically better under their care, substituting medication with compassion, love and hard work. Look past all the fluff, I tried several times to use the facility for a respite (short-term) stay for my loved one, and at first they were nice, but once you get past the front door protocol, what your left with is a loved one who has not had medication dispensed correctly or at all. Low supervision, and a staff of people who tell you what you want to hear until your out the front door. My loved one had to be rushed to the hospital for dehydration, constipation and a number of severe health concerns within 24 hours of coming back home, and only after a week of being there. read more

I'm rating Silverado a 3 as I believe they are a good community for the right type of Alzheimer's dementia/Alzhei patient. Their staff is very nice and the facility is clean and comfortable. If your loved one has the "typical" type of Alzheimer's dementia (if there is one) they will fit in well here. There are activities for them to engage in, the food is good and the staff is kind. My father had dementia with other psychological circumstances and did not fit well here. He required more care, medical attention and psychiatric training than they were prepared for. He was never comfortable here and ultimately was sent to a psychiatric facility to try to sort out his medications. Unfortunately 5 days after returning to Silverado he developed aspiration pneumonia and was septic. He died 6 days later. His dementia caused his swallowing to be affected which was undetected and he aspirated food into his lungs which ultimately led to further complications and his passing. I am heartbroken and nothing will bring him back, but I wanted to let others know that while Silverado is a good community for some, it may not be for others depending on their level of dementia. read more

Well, it's been over 2 years since my Grandma entered Silverado and all I can say is that this group of people who care for those we love most is beyond compare. Their compassion, understanding, organization and joy they share with their residents is extraordinary. I am not someone who trusts others easily with my people. Yet, if I had to do this all over again, I wouldn't choose anyone but Silverado Newport Mesa to care for her. They gave her a real life in the last couple years - where she would have been desperately lonely at home, with sporadic visits that would make her happy, they had fun and exciting things for her to engage with most every day. They celebrate life well and she befriended many staff members and even several residents. They were able to engage her with complete dignity - not treat her like a child just because many times her behavior reflected that. They treated her like the Queen she thought she was, and knew her down to the very details - what she liked to eat for lunch, what she was willing to participate in and what to be sure she didn't miss (like anything with beautiful music!) They had a Christmas choir she engaged in that just delighted her and she loved helping to decorate for every holiday and party. They placed her with the perfect Roomate for her and her physical health was excellent. Thank you SO much to the caregivers, nurses, food staff and leadership for walking us through the past 2+ years. It was such a comfort to me how you loved my Grandma so well and I am so grateful for your love for her and for us. Thank you for loving her well, knowing her, encouraging her to participate and actually live a good life in her last couple years. There is no one else I would trust more than you and everyone at Silverado to love my family well. You are each a gift from God, doing holy and sacred work. We are so deeply thankful. read more

My mom and I moved my father into Silverado Newport Mesa a few weeks ago. I waited to write this review until I could see how he transitioned throughout the entire process. Now that he has been there for one month, I can say with even more certainty, this was the right decision, at the right location! While this is never an easy process for anyone, I can't write and share enough positives about Silverado, and the team they have in place. Lourdes has been an incredible administrator, showing guidance and direction from the moment we met her. Most special of all to me...she made sure my mom was cared for and loved on, even though she wasn't moving in, but her husband was, as he moved out of the house they'd shared together for nearly 50 years! Christina and her passion for my dad's well-being were evident from day one. Her constant communication has been a source of great comfort for my mom! Breanna, and the medical team of care-givers have been nothing but patient, caring, supportive, and kindhearted. I wish I could remember more names, and include them of others we've seen so far on visits, they've all been fantastic! The most special part of Silverado is they're a team, they're all about making sure their residents are treated well and loved on as if they were their own family, and Silverado is now becoming our own extended family. Silverado was the first location we checked out, and as we investigated other facilities after, we ended up comparing everywhere else to this location, and nobody else came close. My mom was diagnosed with dementia at a relatively young age and I was dreading the thought of having to move her out of her home. Upon touring Silverado Newport-Mesa, I found a warm, welcoming, and lively environment. The gardens are beautiful and there are activities held throughout the day. Family Ambassador Courtney spoke about encouraging residents to participate but letting them choose not to if they didn't want to, and working with challenging behaviors - not correcting people but meeting them where they are. Making the decision to move my mom was incredibly hard, but Courtney was amazing and the whole staff was really helpful. Attending the family support groups and meet ups they offer also helped me with the transition. We have been at Silverado a little over 2.5 years now. In addition to dementia my mom has had a long time struggle with depression. She would isolate and have bouts of sadness even before moving in. The staff has been so patient and kind in working with her. They keep coming up with suggestions, engage with her, and try new things to improve her quality of life. The nursing team connected me with a psychiatrist that visits her there. Everyone has gotten to know mom's personality and how to make her smile. She has started to participate more in activities and her mood has improved. Whenever I have a question Administrator Erin and the management staff are quick to respond. I am so grateful for the care that my mom receives. I also really appreciate the support the staff has given me - they have truly become my team on this journey. read more

We ended up going with the smaller Tustin location, but I arrived here for a visit with no appointment and everyone made time for me. I was amazed, after visiting MANY memory care facilities within 20 mile radius, at the difference: there was life. Family photos lined the halls, music in room with residents participating at various levels, a cooking class at a corner, the smell of baking... gone were forgotten loved ones languishing in hallways, or being over medicated, or playing with stupid dolls. Dignity and love - it's sad you have to be able to afford it, these facilities require serious funds... I truly wish I could bring everyone I have seen at other places, especially scary medicare facilities, here. It's my new wish for mythical lotto winnings: to save people. My mother has been at Silverado Newport-Mesa Dementia/Memory Care Community for 2 1/2 years. She can be very challenging, yet the staff have consistently shown her love and caring. They work with her and with me to address her concerns and to find a solution. Whenever I visit, the community is clean, attractive and welcoming. They do an excellent job of involving the family in both fun activities with the resident and in decision-making. All staff, including maintenance workers and chefs, are trained in dementia care as well their primary job, and all of the staff seem to know every resident. Amazing Place!! My Mom has been here for almost 2 years now. She has thrived since she has been at Silverado. Their Care Philosophy is truly unique and they walk the walk!! Many of her family members when they visit her always say how good she is doing and how nice the place is. All of the employee's are so patient and kind all of the time you wonder how they do it especially Katie the manager who always comes out of her office and greets us just like we are all family!! A placement consultant recommended that we look at Silverado Care for our father. With four siblings dispersed across the country, we needed a place that we could trust to take care of our father and be quick to notice any physical and emotional changes. Silverado assured us they could handle his physical needs (catheter), sometimes aggressive behavior, and he could be seen by a doctor on-site. Silverado not only met, but exceeded our expectations. Our father was adamant against going to a "nursing home", but the first night he enjoyed strawberry ice cream. When I was able to visit our father, he said "this is a first-class place!" I was impressed by the number of staff helping and how quickly they learned our father's likes and dislikes. And being remote, i couldn't ask for better communication from the nursing staff. One of the best places to provide long-term care for a family member, or in my case, a client. Everyone worked with me in transitioning my lady and ensuring that she was welcomed. They have been accommodating and sincerely interested in her history and ongoing success. The environment is clean and orderly. A truly amazing place. We were very blessed to have found Silverado 2 years ago. They made every effort to accommodate and ensure that the process of admission and acclimation was smooth. Administration, medical personnel and staff are all outstanding. Everyone has a positive attitude and responds to the residents needs and family concerns immediately. Nothing is a problem for them! The facility is clean and pleasant with small animals on the property for comfort. They arrange for onsite dental care, vision, etc. They have a excellent program in place to keep residents always engaged and I can see the improvement in my friend's cognitive abilities. My mom moved in a year and a half ago and has actually improved. (Something i did not expect with this awful disease) Communication, care, cleanliness, activities, LOVE, kindness, competence, and organization are words that come to mind when i think of Silverado. I'm a ER nurse and I went to visit a friend of mine that lives here. I'm so glad her family chose this community. From a clinical stand point I was blown away by all the staffing that was in place. They have 24/hr nursing care that provides a home like feeling and not like a hospital or a skilled nursing facility. My friend and other residents were well cared for here. The community was so clean and well kept. The environment felt very homey smelling like fresh baked cookies! They also have pets there to visit with the patients and their guests. My visit was so pleasant and the staff was extremely friendly. Battling a memory impairing disease is challenging but its places like Silverado that provide residents the quality of life and care they deserve. In addition, They provide a Brain Health Program called Nexus which truly is amazing! read more

When I walked in the front door and was greeted by the staff, I was done looking. If you didn't know you were in a care facility, you would think you were at a hotel. I am impressed with the staff and philosophy of Silverado Newport Mesa. My generation is dealing with aging parents. Never having gone through the mental decline of a loved one, this experience was all new to me. I cannot give them enough stars on Yelp to do their attitude and work ethic justice. My mom was in Assisted Living and not getting the proper care she needed. We moved her to a lovely Board and Care, we thought, for more care. She rapidly declined. I do not want to dwell on her HORRIBLE care prior to Silverado. My biggest regret is she wasn't at Silverado soon enough to experience life with dignity and meaning. Silverado's staff care. I listened and watched employees as they interacted with residents before making another move for mom. I watched the patient, kind and caring staff as they redirected their residents. They gave them activities and had them out of their rooms and bed. It actually brought tears to my eyes at times wishing mom could have had the opportunity to experience what they offered. They encourage families, even children, to visit and have a meal. They look at life with meaning and value. My husband and I walked down halls looking at memory boxes outside of residents rooms. There were school teachers, M.D.'s, pianist, cooks, veterinarians, housewives and many veterans. It is difficult to see a loved one decline and have memory loss when they had a full active and productive life. Silverado gives them the respect and honor they deserve. Everyone from the receptionist, housekeeping, food servers administrative staff and medical persons were all trained to care in a loving and kind way. My mom went to heaven on September 11. She wasn't at Silverado very long but the staff showed her love and care up to her last earthly breath. They cared for our family and gave us space to say goodbye. My husband said the other day that he misses going to see mom and the other residents and staff. read more

I really want to emphasize if you are looking for memory care for any family member or friend - PLEASE do yourself a favor and take the time to schedule a tour of Silverado! I wish I did last summer- but had toured several others and chose a brand new place in Mission Viejo and moved my mom into this supposed memory care/dementia trained facility (starts with an A). Long story short- this place sent my mom to a psychiatric hospital for 2 weeks. I knew immediately I needed to research an alternative and it had been bothering me I never checked out Silverado. I knew with my call to the family ambassador- Courtney to schedule a tour -they get it. If my mom was at Silverado in the first place- she never would have had to go to the hospital. Please don't let the cost hold you back from even looking here. They give you the bar and standard that all other care places should be following. They're not afraid to share their knowledge either. My mom declined during her stay at the psych hosp so she never had a chance to enjoy what Silverado had to offer. About 10 days in she was placed on hospice care at Silverado. I can't tell you how grateful,thankful, blessed I feel that she was able to spend her last month under the wonderful care of Silverado Newport-Mesa and hospice. Silverado had 24 hour nursing - this is key. Silverado understands the changes and behavior that comes with dementia. They don't automatically try and medicate. They don't tell you somethings wrong with your family member. They support you along with their resident. The level and amount of care one gets here is incomparable. When I opened Silverado's book it says something about how Silverado isn't a quiet place- because people there are living. They are right. I was there daily. I do not have one thing that I can complain about except that my mom didn't get to do enjoy what they had. I can't emphasize nor write enough to encourage anyone going down this path- please - visit Silverado (including San Juan who was wonderfully supportive as well) so you know what any residential facility should be doing. What a fantastic place! My father needed more care than his prior memory care place could offer and Silverado's approach to living with Alzheimer's is different. They are a wonderful, loving, attentive facility that understands the difficulties that can arise with dementia patients. My dad was the sweetest, calmest, most-easy going guy but would have bouts of agitation as the Alzheimer's progressed. Other memory care places will send residents to a hospital for treatment when residents aren't easy to manage, which can be extremely difficult on patients and families. Silverado has a higher licensure than most memory care places, and they can more effectively care for residents with behavioral problems to try to avoid transfers to hospitals and/or nursing homes. Additionally, the facility is warm and inviting, there are cats and dogs, open areas inside and outside where residents can freely go, tons of activities for all levels of dementia...it's a great place. Every single staff member we met was wonderful--so caring and so skilled! My dad was really sick after a hospital stay when he was admitted to Silverado, and Silverado took great care of him. We had a caretakers, nurses, and even Silverado hospice, and they all interacted seamlessly and did the best they could for my dad and our family. My dad passed very peacefully in a warm and wonderful place. If you are considering a memory care facility for your loved one, this is the place. No one knows how dementia will progress for any given person, but this place minimizes the chances for transfers to hospitals and is a fantastic, warm, loving, caring, fun, extremely-competent and professional facility. This place is wonderful! Please read! My dad had middle to late Alzheimer's and had previously been living in a memory care facility. As he began to have significant changes (behavioral and physical) his current facility was not able to properly care for him, and we had to find a much higher skilled facility/community for him to live in. Silverado Newport Mesa is an amazing place. They specialize in Dementia and Alzheimer's, so EVERY staff member is trained to a degree that compares to no other place. They also have a higher licensure than most memory care facilities, so they can truly handle even the most difficult situations. They have a very special and unique environment. They care for their residents with extreme kindness, compassion, and understanding, but they also care for the resident's family with empathy and support. There is a warmth and acceptance of all residents, no matter what issues and challenges they may have. The staff is very professional, especially Courtney Vandegriendt - she is amazing! She answered EVERY question we had when considering moving our father there. If you have a loved-one that needs 24-hour care - Silverado is the ONLY choice. Our father ended up moving into Silverado Newport Mesa on Hospice Care- and their Hospice Care was incredible. Every care giver, nurse, and additional staff was incredibly skilled, kind, qualified, and supportive. The integrated team took such good care of our father, and our family.
