He was patient and knowledgeable and walked me through every step. His communication skills were impeccable and his personality shined through. As a former Skilled Nursing Director, I knew it would be hard to find not just a care facility but a true community for her. She was my main concern. From the moment we arrived, we found exactly that! Danika, the Director, leads with compassion and strength. Olivia, the coordinator, brings a level of organization that made the transition feal seamless. Julie the secretary, greeted us with warmth every day. Making The Shores feel like home. Kaytlin, the activities director is slowly bringiing my non social mother back into life with her creativity and genuine joy. The employees ooze happiness with their jobs. The service is exceptional and its truly is a 5 star resort for the elderly. The menus are beyond brilliant and the food quality is a chefs kiss! The entertainment is beyond amazing, with numerous grand events to entertain family and the residents. Vivante isn't just an Assisted Living or Memory care facility. While what clearly was a life changing decision originally, moving into Vivante has proven time and again to be the best for both. Sadly, we lost our mom last month after an incredible fight she had been putting up for the past few years. Her last ten days truly showed us the incredible "loving care" by so many of Danica Coronel's TEAM. Now, over the years I have visited the facilities hundreds of times. I have gotten to know many of the caregivers, nurses, medtechs, servers, etc., and I have always felt good when leaving that my parents were in great hands. It is always clean and in good condition. We have enjoyed many great meals, met many residents & their families, and created some good memories (under the circumstances). Those "last ten days or so before her passing," REALLY opened my, and many of my family's eyes to the true depth of passion & caring of SO many of the Vivante staff (On the apartment side & especially in The Shores facility). From the smiling greetings by Jojo & Julie, the always positive Vince, Danica & Olivia, the incredibly joyful Alyssa (and mom Debbie), Krista, Ashlee, Elizabeth, Zoila, Jesus, Angela, Pilar, Irizella, Sara, lovely Aricelli who would make mom a nice cup of hot chocolate with a smile & warm words, to the cooks & servers, there are many more to mention. The facility is incredibly clean. There is staff present at all times. It's a small yet spacious facility. Once you know your way around it's hard to get lost. The residents and staff are so friendly. I think the most important part about this facility is how much planned activities there are both on and off site. Residents here STAY busy. They have at least 5-6 arranged activities daily. They have off site field trips every week. Meal times are planned and can be taken in room or the dining hall. Pets are allowed which was a major bonus for my friend. The rooms will vary in size from a small studio to a spacious one bedroom. Staff cleans rooms weekly and will do laundry as well. There are two large yards that residents can walk outside to. The second yard is located right outside of the dining hall and has a gazebo and small garden. The food is ok. The residents seem to like it and that's all that matters. I'm so grateful to the staff for all that they do in the care of their older residents. To anyone shopping around for an Assisted Living residence for their loved one; Don't just go by the words of a stranger in a review. Visit the facilities more than once, with and without your loved one. Ask questions. Speak to the residents. Understand that everyone's experience is different.

On July 13, I sent a second written demand asking Park View either to participate in mediation or agree to proceed directly to arbitration. No response. On July 31, I sent a formal notice documenting their non-cooperation. Still no response. I then retained an attorney. On August 25, his office personally served Fountain Valley OpCo LLC, the company operating Park View, through its registered agent with a mediation demand. Again, no participation. My concern is straightforward: Park View requests residents and families to sign an ADR agreement, but when we attempted to use that process, Park View repeatedly failed to participate. If residents are expected to honor the agreement, the facility should honor it too.

Carmel Village is an acceptable place for seniors who are still fairly independent and only need…read moreminimal assistance, meals, and basic housekeeping. However, once a resident requires a higher level of care, our experience was extremely disappointing. My mom lived at Carmel Village for two years. During the last four months of her life, as her care needs increased, the quality of care declined significantly. While Carmel Village charged additional fees for every added service--which we understood and expected--the care that was promised was not the care that was provided. One of the biggest concerns was the call button service. We were told that staff strive to respond within 10 minutes, whether a resident needed help picking up a dropped remote or had fallen. During the first two weeks after my mom began using this service, she regularly waited 20, 30, and sometimes 45 minutes for someone to respond. We met with Ruby from the office, who apologized, said she would address the issue with staff, and even told us she would personally respond if it ever exceeded eight minutes. Unfortunately, we never saw that commitment reflected in what actually happened. 2 months later, after my mom returned from the hospital on hospice, the problems became even more serious. Carmel Village charged us a fee for coordinating with our outside hospice provider, but we repeatedly found ourselves reminding staff when medications or supplies were running low because many caregivers seemed unfamiliar with hospice procedures. My mom was bedridden and had physician's orders to be repositioned every two hours to prevent pressure sores, yet there were many times when my sister and I were there for hours without anyone coming in to turn her. We also found ourselves constantly correcting mistakes involving meals and medications. My mom remained mentally sharp until the very end of her life, and it was heartbreaking to watch her concerns be dismissed even though she was often correct. Instead of being able to spend our time simply being daughters, my sister and I had to be at Carmel Village every day for several hours just to make sure our mom received the care she needed. During the final three weeks of her life, we had already begun making plans to move her to elsewhere because the situation had become so concerning. We also involved the Long-Term Care Ombudsman and held weekly meetings with the Carmel Village director, Mandy, and her staff in hopes of improving communication and resolving ongoing issues. Unfortunately, many of the same concerns continued from week to week, and Mandy often responded as though she were hearing about them for the first time, It became she is very out of touch about what really goes on in the rooms of the residents compared to what she THINKS the Med Techs and Caregivers are actually doing. We observed it all first-hand by sitting in my mom's room for hours every day. Choosing an assisted living facility is one of the most important decisions a family can make. Based on our experience, Carmel Village may be suitable for someone who only needs minimal assistance, but I cannot recommend it for anyone who requires significant daily care or hospice support. The promises made did not match the care my mom actually received, and I would not trust Carmel Village with the care of a loved one whose needs extend beyond basic assisted living.
