She says the food is…read moregood, there are plenty of daily activities (Mondays have a weekly trip to Target), rooms are spacious, residents are all nice (except for 1), but, what makes this place so amazing is the STAFF! They are exceptional! Whilst Mom and I were chatting on the phone, she had somehow managed to face-plant herself onto her recliner and couldn't get up or roll over. At home, she would have had to have called the fire department to come sort her out (they're on a first-name basis by now), but here, she pushed her button pendant, this lovely woman came to Mom's rescue, got her rolled over, helped her into her jammies, arranged her pillows and tucked her in! I heard the whole thing and I am so incredibly impressed! The aide was so polite and helpful and she literally told my mom, "call us to come help you. We don't want you doing anything by yourself. You are not a burden and you are not bothering us. It is our pleasure to serve you." They will gleefully wait on you, hand and foot, and keep you safe! Of course, there always has to be a downside to everything and here, it appears to be laundry. Apparently all residents' laundry is done in bulk and they really don't seem to have a system in place to keep everyone's laundry separate. I am now researching pickup/drop-off laundry service so my mom doesn't lose any of her clothes. Might also look into sewing nametags into everything, just like summer camp! :-D

The Royal Inns managed by Al and his family made this transition a comfortable and wise decision. The on-site staff is beyond "staff" and actually becomes "the extended family". Not once did my Mother and her family feel we made a wrong decision. Better yet, my Dad loved the place and thanked me every visit for finding this home. This limited bed (6 beds I believe) facility allowed excellent care for my Dad. The tasty daily meals, the day-to-day care, the cleanliness and extended warmth to all that enter is hard to be beat (really can't be beat). They arrange for onsite visits for doctors and personal care beyond the staff's abilities. As my Dad slowly lost his abilities of movement and hearing, the staff kept us abreast of all acitivity and his needs. The facility is consistently updated. I thank Al and his family and staff for making my Dad feel as home as possible. If (okay when) my day comes, I will be more than happy to become a resident.
