Our big crazy family had our Family Reunion here (aka Black Diamond Lodge). They were in the midst of changing names on our visit. This was slightly confusing upon our arrival, but we figured it out. Upon our arrival (those of us who are on time), were greeted by Amber! She caught onto our family banter quickly and went through the Do's & Don'ts. There were 50 of us, so we certainly needed this. The Lodge is spacious and multiple beautiful views. I watched the sunrise over the mountains on the spa balcony every morning. A great way to prepare yourself for the chaos of a family reunion, and just Be for a moment! The Lodge had plenty of space for eating together, games and we even put on a talent show! The game room and dining area were the most used. We had ages from 4-months to old AF, and everyone enjoyed themselves. The Lodge is in close proximity to Purgatory, Bears Ranch (horseback riding), trails, water leisure, and a local bar, The Nugget. This was a great unforgettable reunion! We stayed in the condos, air bnb style. The place was easy to find and was located between several different activities. We had the one bedroom with a sleeper sofa. The "queen" bed a little smaller than pictured, but was okay for the price. Overall, missing a few things like paper towels, ice, coffee, and some items/ pillows in need of updating. I don't know if I would've trusted the hot tub and also saw a dead mouse resting on top of one of the outdoor patio tables. read more

The Silverpick Lodge was the PERFECT venue for a weekend wedding. Chris, Neal, and the rest of the staff are incredibly skilled at what they do. We were able to do as much as we wanted to ourselves and they assisted when necessary. The lodge and meadow are absolutely gorgeous and nearly everyone attending the wedding was able to stay on site or nearby at Purgatory Resort. We had our reception dinner at The Sow's Ear and the food was amazing. If you're looking for a truly incomparable experience for your wedding definitely check out the Silverpick. I just returned to Boston after spending 3 days here. It's gorgeous, convenient and really quirky/fun! The owner, Chris, does a fantastic job of running the whole thing: the lodge itself, lodge rooms, condos & just about everything else except the on-site restaurant (the Sow's Ear). He's also a really nice guy. There were some glitches (stuffed up drain, wonky heater), but they were fixed ASAP upon notifying Chris. He also arranged for a masseuse to come to the lodge for us. This is a really great place that has the stamp of the owner's creative fun personality. This is not a cookie-cutter corporate impersonal place. It's quirky and wonderful! read more

My family just had our reunion at the lodge. It was perfect for the 68 people we had all week long. It was spacious and had everything for our needs. The kids were entertained and busy with the game room and tv area. The fire pit out back was so great for the cool nights as well as the hot tubs, the view was incredible. "We had NO running water, NO toilet's, NO showers for 2 nights AND OWNER DIDN'T CARE - Stay elsewhere!" At midnight our first night, during a rehearsal dinner, the water went out everywhere and no one had any running water FOR TWO FULL NIGHTS! So the toilets in all of the rooms, the toilet's in the restaurant, and the communal toilet's in the lodge (wedding) reception areas were un-flushable. As you can imagine it didn't take long for things to get "ripe and funky" (and I don't mean the music!). But anyone can make it through one night, right? And we all know things go wrong from time-to-time. However, when you have a lodge full of wedding guests, INCLUDING THE BRIDE & GROOM, one would expect something substantive to be done immediately by the owner to rectify or at least try and improve the situation. BUT NOT HERE. NOT WITH THIS BUFFOON! The owner, Chris, sat hiding behind his computer ALL THE NEXT DAY AND DID NOTHING (except when he and his crew disappeared to Purgatory for a nice lunch, as you see, his own restaurant had to be shut down) other than placing a phone call to the private water company. Anyone with any common sense at all would have done the minimum necessary for their guests, except for this fool. For instance, how about bringing in some water bottles for the wedding guests (or at least for the bride maybe?!). How about a Porta Potti or two? (after all you have a wedding reception coming up that day). How about some hand sanitizer? Come on, it doesn't take a genius to come up with a few very easy solutions to make things palatable does it? BUT NO, NOT FOR CHRIS - his solution was to tell the 6 of us who spoke to him, that we "were not his guests"!!!! THAT IS A DIRECT QUOTE FROM THE LODGE OWNER (Because in his befuddled mind I guess since he had been paid in full by the wedding party (and we each then paid in our share to them) that then we were not "his" guests. Like that really makes any difference at all. We simply were asking that if the water was going to be off for all day and that night, was he going to pay for our accommodations elsewhere? (FRANKLY WHY WASN'T HE HIMSELF ON THE PHONE MAKING OTHER ARRANGEMENTS FOR EVERYONE?) In fact we know that right down the street at Purgatory there were plenty of available rooms he could have moved us to. Now if this hadn't been a Sunday on Columbus Day weekend, I'll just bet a simple call to the Town of Durango Sanitation Department would have resulted in him being shut down. (But then no one would want that to happen to this wonderful bride and groom). So here we are, an hour-and-half before the wedding, being told by the owner that we should go ask the brides mother for reimbursement if we wanted to stay elsewhere! (All he had to do was say, "send the bill from the other hotel to me"). I for one will NEVER RETURN, and I have never seen a more miserable, disorganized, uncaring, and ridiculous lodge owner ever before. I can't imagine how someone as clueless as this even gets to owning a place as beautiful as this. I would stay anywhere else than here! And if you are planning a wedding or large-scale event here, I would implore you to NOT PAY IN ADVANCE so you have some leverage. Because this is not the first run-in with this owner (see YELP reviews!) Oh!, I almost forgot the best part! One of the guests arrived and checked in on the 2nd "Night-of-No-Water", and was NOT TOLD by Chris that there was no water!! Imagine that - you have the gall as the owner to hand an incoming guest a key, welcome them to the lodge, and send them on to their room knowing full well that when they get there they won't be able to flush the toilet! I want to make it clear that this is truly a beautiful place. It just needs to be owned and run by someone who recognizes their obligation, if not to the guests, than at least to the bride and groom. It was an unfortunate occurrence, that apparently was the fault of the private water company and not Chris himself. But ANYONE ELSE would have brought in some water bottles, some porta-johns, some sanitizer, made other arrangements for guests, or immediately offered some concessions for this incredibly inconvenient, unsanitary, and totally disgusting scenario. I mean even a simple sign in the lobby updating guests on what was going on would have been an improvement. And certainly there can be no excuse for checking in a new guest after a night-and-a-day of no water, without advising them that they might want to check in somewhere else. This is a warning to all future ski lovers....I returned recently from a deployment and reserved a room at the Silverpick Lodge four months in advance for the Valentines weekend to ski in Durango. I received a call from the Silverpick lodging folks telling me my room was no longer available but they chose to wait until two weeks prior to Valentines weekend/Presidents day weekend to cancel my reservations without any reason behind it. This caused me to spend more than twice as much on a new reservation for my ski trip. I have traveled all over the world and the US! I have never had this kind of treatment before. I am sure they canceled to give my room to someone who was spending more than a week so they could make more money off of some one else. This is asinine and sad that the Silverpick lodging folks not only ruined my trip but also forced me to waste twice as much money due to their last minute cancellation....I would not trust them and go somewhere your reservation far in advance is honored. read more

If I could, I've give this place a 16th of a star because the owner is a crazy wing-nut jerkface. VERY long story short.. Some friends rented this lodge for their destination wedding in Durnago. We came mostly from Austin, but some others came from all over the country and a handful from over seas. My friend and I had made reservations 2 months in advance, arrived in Durnago, had lunch and then drove up to the lodge to rest. We got there and ; no one was at the desk. we called to ask where the manager was. he said "wait about 45 min". we did. an hour later we called again to see if he was any close. he says" i'll get there when i get there!" he arrives and immediately demands to know who has been calling and harassing him! then he tells us that he has already booked OUR room to someone else! We start to get frustrated. He begins banging his fist on the counter and screaming at us to "chill out! shut up! have a seat! you can't have everything you want!" then he runs our card and puts us in another room. Later on after talking to the bride, we find out that she has paid for EVERY room in the lodge and he is double charging the guests! And if that wasn't bad enough, the couple had to CLEAN because the party rooms weren't set up and the owner never did anything to prepare for them like his contract said. We ended up having fun because the lodge IS beautiful and surrounded by the most lovely of settings, alcohol flowed like water, and the food and people were wonderful. But I would NEVER, NEVER EVER recommend that anyone stay there. EVER. Don't give crazy old Chris your money. EVER. read more

I had my wedding here on June 22nd 2019. Out of all the venues I looked at, this one was the best by far. The lodge is beautiful and the restaurant is fantastic. The price is reasonable for the amazing quality of everything. The rooms are absolutely beautiful and cozy. My husband and I reserved the Silverpick Lodge for 3 nights over our wedding weekend in October 2016. I'm from a town near Durango and my mom lives near Silverpick Lodge, so I've been eyeing the lodge as a possible wedding venue for a while as I've always found it beautiful and in an amazing location! Chris Wing at the Silverpick Lodge is great to work with and is super relaxed about things, so it's a no-stress situation. Gorgeous location. Architecture is unique. Staff was less than friendly. We were vendors at a wedding. We were the photographers. We asked specifically to have our food brought to us at the same time as the bride and groom so we could be done eating when they were done. It is part of our contract with the couple. Instead we were fed last and were unable to eat our dinner as we were needed for other pictures. We had been on our feet all day with no time to eat. That dinner break is important. read more

My husband and I took a look at this place while we were looking around for wedding venues, we had planned to get married in Arizona and were in Durango on vacation and decided to pop in to check it out. We immediately fell in love with the place, after a tour with Chris, and decided we would have a destination wedding so we could get married at the Lodge! Our four night stay at the lodge was the perfect wedding set up. We were able to fit our wedding party and immediate family all in the lodge and most of the other guests stayed in condos on the property. We used the Columbine room for our rehearsal dinner and the Sows Ear for the wedding dinner. After dinner, toasts and first dance we went downstairs to the Columbine room which was the perfect setting for our guests. We had a DJ set up in the main room for dancing and used the back porch with a fire in the fire pit for guests to use as a quieter location to talk and hang out. The game room was perfect for all the kids we had because it kept them entertained and all in one place. Chris was so great to work with, he answered all the questions I had throughout the planning process and handled all of the check in/payment with our guests so we didn't have to. Keep in mind this is a minimally staffed lodge (personally I liked it that way) so check-in can be a little slow when you have a bunch of people checking in at once. It didn't bother us, we were able to still move our stuff in and go back to pay when the line slowed down. Chris was helpful when we needed help, but gave us our space the whole time which really made it feel like it was our own place. This is the perfect venue for someone looking for a location that can sleep all of their guests close by! I was recently in Durango for an extended stay and was lucky enough to stay at Silverpick Lodge. The owner was very accommodating to my son and me. We were shown hiking trails, given tips on great places to eat and visit (100 year old gold mine, Music in the Mountain, Silverton, Lake City) and made to feel at home. The lodge is a comfortable place with a breakfast room that had coffee and bagels available any time of the day. The game room is a great place to relax after a day of touring or shopping. The lodge is close to everything but far enough away to feel like we were "away from all the hustle and bustle" of the world. I can't wait to go back! read more

We arrived at the Silverpick right after it had snowed. The moment we walked through the front door, there was a positively warm, vibrant, yet laid-back ambience - from the cheerful greeting, to the architectural design, to the visual evolution of skis displayed on the walls. This can be largely credited to the lodge owner, Chris, whose extensive knowledge of the area (as well as many other interesting subjects), and lively company provided an unexpected treat! It is obvious he loves what he does and really cares about his guests' experience at the lodge. The rooms are very well appointed, and the beds are incredibly comfortable and warm - you really feel like you are a guest in someone's home. The lodge itself is lovely, and it was so convenient having a large community kitchen. You could you prepare your own meals or snacks and its family sized dining table and casual conversations over coffee lend itself to that old-style ski lodge feeling. To unwind at the end of the day, there are two outdoor hot-tubs with great mountain views and a spa area with a steam room and sauna. Our dinner at the Sow's Ear Restaurant was nothing short of amazing! There is a really nice bar when you walk in, filled with both locals and visitors, and the immediate vibe is friendly and open. After a day of skiing, one can dine in style, without too much formality. The service was excellent, and the chef prepared a five-star meal. We started with a beet salad, followed by the filet au poive, paired with a lovely pinot noir. Not only was the food terrific, but the company and atmosphere of the restaurant was really exceptional. If you would like a laid back, yet first-rate, experience with old-style charm, the Silverpick Lodge is a perfect choice, and at incredibly reasonable rates. We travel to the Durango area often, and the Silverpick is now our go-to place to stay - planning our next trip already! read more

We got married at Silverpick in July and would recommend it to anyone. We rented the lodge for the weekend and everything about the lodge was perfect. They had enough space for a rehearsal dinner for 60 and had all the plates, cups, serving dishes you could ask for. The fire pit was great, the rooms were great for singles and families and the dinner/breakfast rooms were so convenient. It allowed for the group to hang out all weekend like one big happy family.
