Staff is friendly, the grounds are beautiful and it can be relaxing. The new bathrooms were nice. But the dressing room was small fornthe amount of guests at the time of our last visit. We went this past weekend and it was very crowded and hard for two of us to find a pool that we wouldn't be shoulder to shoulder with strangers. Empty cups and aluminum alcohol bottles floating in tubs. Kids were picking up cups discarded by adults, filling them with dirt and pouring them into the pools while parents partied. We moved a few times and it wasn't a singular occurrence. Many people mentioned they were overstaying their 2 hour pass because the was no way staff could identify them. I used work at a hostpring so I know how hard it is to enforce, but understand that it causes issues like we were seeing. Hot water was nice, but the overall experience could be better. Just dont expect it to be relaxing.

Purgatory Resort Summer Day Passes are 100% worth it! Our family of 5 with kids ages 4 years old to…read more10 years old absolutely loved it. The passes include a ride on their Inferno Mountain Coaster, the Alpine slides, Go Karts, Board/Boat trip in the lake and gold panning but we went on double ride day and had double the fun! Our half day passes were from 10am-1:30pm but we ended up staying until 3pm just enjoying the mountain scenes and Bear Bar and eats! We all agreed it was something we would want to do every summer. The views and adventures were incredible and we definitely made lifelong memories here. Note, strongly suggest you hit up the coaster, alpine slides and gold panning together as the Go Karts and Lake Adventures are more towards the entrance of the resort, but with the shuttle and awesome staff, it's easy to get there and they were super supportive of time restraints!

We were able to ride the chairlift up and back. We went to get into the line for the Alpine Slide. Almost immediately, they closed everything down due to lightning strikes near by. 30 minutes and extended another 30 minutes after each new strike. Reading the website, it states that when a weather DELAY happens you have an hour to ask for a refund. It also says after 2:00 there are no refunds. If you use your pass at all, you get a partial refund (great! We'll take the 75% refund since we rode one activity and the delay kept getting extended) Holy cow the nonsense at the ticket booth! No refunds unless they "close". You can use it all season. Different terminology on the website and on the laminated sheet at the register. We were leaving to go back to AZ the next day so we wouldn't be back this season. It took 4 families asking for refunds and referring to the website's refund policy (delay vs closed not selling any tickets during the delay so are they closed?!!) and 3 levels of employees to finally get our money back and then finally admitting the policy terminology is contradictory and confusing and "will be updated and changed soon". The activities all looked fun and we understand weather happens but this has to happen a lot with summer storms. They really try to steal your money with a poorly written policy and a rude cashier who obviously never read the website. Questionable if we'll return.

I have never stayed at a place that felt so homely. The bed was comfy and thank goodness there was no down comforter- I get so hot with those no matter the temp. They also own a restaurant and bar next door- such a convenience! My mom and I enjoyed some cold brew and beers outside while waiting for our check in time. Hands down, the best place I've stayed! The lady at the front desk was super friendly and said we could. So we paid and dropped our dogs off to get spayed. We returned to the room and took our luggage in. We went to enjoy the hot tub, the steps into the hot tub are tricky but it felt nice after a 4 hour drive. All in all if you like history this is the place to go. Yes! It's outdated! Yes! It's dingy! The best part: it is so close to the main street of town so you can have your parking for free and easily stroll to the main parts of Durango where there are restaurants and stores and a great coffee shop. Also, it's a historical hotel that was built in 1898 and so it has a really incredible charm to it. The seating for breakfast and the lobby area are really beautiful. The thing to know: it is right next to the train station in Durango. So if you want to take the amazing train ride (and you should!) you can just walk right next to it and you have your free parking with the hotel room, which is awesome. BUT this also means that you hear the train constantly. It is very loud multiple times a day, early in the morning and in the evening. So just keep this in mind when you book this hotel. The breakfast: the breakfast the day we were there had eggs (watery scrambled) and sausage links and a waffle maker and toast and oatmeal and cereal and yogurt. All of it was the typical continental American breakfast. I really enjoyed the sausage links and the toast. The oatmeal was meh. The coffee was not good at all, but I did drink it haha. If you have time, go to the Durango coffee Company instead. They also have an assortment of teas and hot water. I would give the breakfast a 2-3/5. It seems like they could easily upgrade this breakfast and make it something really worth going to for the price of the hotel.
