Had a very lovely stay here this past month. The owners of this beautiful bed and breakfast clearly value their customers and want everyone to have a great stay. We loved all the little things available to do, watch movies, play games, enjoy the outdoors on a hammock, on a deck, or in a jacuzzi. This is a also a perfect location for anyone wanting to enjoy Durango, go skiing at Purgatory, or relax at the Durango hot springs, only about 10-20 min away from each place. Ps - The cookies are made by the owner and are always available, they are delicious. Will absolutely be back.

Patio to enjoy wine or morning coffee. Birds are along with the trees so you get to see them up close.

Very beautiful home. The rooms are big and comfy. The owners have fixed the home so warm and inviting. Continental complimentary breakfast was yummy. Lots of amenities. Beautiful views. Stay to see the beauty. Plus the owners are such lovely people.

This is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. The owners are so sweet. It really feels like you are visiting family and friends. The grounds are very well kept. The room price is right. Once you walk in, you will want to stay for a few days. If you are ever near this place stop in.

    Amazing fruit parfait!

There are seriously no words for this adorable, amazing B&B! I felt like they should've charged us way more for this unforgettable experience! First of all, the location is convenient (~15-20 mins to Durango downtown, 15 mins to Purgatory ski resort). It is peaceful, right near the Animas river and you can walk about 30 mins from the B&B to Baker's bridge to see the emerald water, where the famous jump scene from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was filmed. You can also watch birds and squirrels from the upstairs breakfast table all day. Secondly, the amenities themselves were very cozy and lovely. The rooms are warm, spacious (and we reserved the "smallest" room) and stocked with shampoo, conditioner, lip balm, soap and jolly ranchers! There is a fridge downstairs that has beer, water and soda available all day every day, and a jar of chocolates upstairs as well! There is also a hot tub, and if you forgot your bathing suit, fear not, because they keep a stash of bathing suits you can borrow too! Thirdly: the food. My god, the food. Walter states he was never trained as a chef but these gourmet breakfasts and desserts are to die for. The morning fruit parfait alone is a masterpiece-- while we stayed there, we had sweet potato waffles with pecans and sausage; delicious macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup and sausage on the side; and crispy bacon with a homemade corn muffin and cheese quiche! The desserts are equally ridiculously good-- as are the cookies that are baked fresh and made available all day. Fourthly, the people: plenty of couples stay there, young and old, and all are of a similar mindset- they enjoy nature, they are super kind, and they are a pleasure to be around. It was like having breakfast with family (and in the meantime, getting great suggestions of things to do during the day!) Also there is a really old dog and cat there and they are adorable, sweet and not bothersome or threatening at all. Just an FYI if anyone has allergies. Would highly, highly recommend you stay here. It's peaceful, romantic and so relaxing.

Early morning sunrise. Birds are singing and hummingbirds are there to share the morning.

Perfection... absolute perfection to the tiniest details. The finest in comfort and the breakfast is, shall we say, equivalent to fine dining. Walter & Jodi, the owners and proprietors insure that your stay is memorable by their down home attitude. Leaving is sad because you feel like your leaving your best friends behind. This is the third year in a row for us... and I know... many more to follow. ~~ Trent Young, Phoenix, AZ

We were supposed to have an upstairs room with private bath, but that changed somehow when we arrived. We stayed in the downstairs section, which has several other bedrooms and one shared bathroom and kitchen and living area. Luckily no other guests were staying at that time, so we had it all to ourselves, and it worked out great. Bedrooms and bathroom were extremely clean and neat. Beautiful lot with large patios upstairs and downstairs that are oh-so peaceful!! Spent lots of time talking with Bob, and he was very accommodating and easy-going. I loved having breakfast in their cozy and bright dining area near the kitchen overlooking the mountains and watching numerous hummingbirds come to feed on their upper patio (felt like we were Bob's personal guests). Bob was also so kind to let our dog, LeLa (who is well-behaved) stay in the dining room with us while we had breakfast. We did not see much of Ursula (his wife) as she had to work during the days that we were there, but our brief meeting with her was very pleasant! We highly recommend this place!!!

The place itself is very conveniently located to anything in Pagosa and also to various hikes. The facility is visually appealing and the hosts are far and away the nicest, most accommodating people you could ever meet. Just so happened it is the beginning of the season and we were the only guests for two nights. We were downright spoiled with the attention we received. Took full advantage of the happy hour (two hours actually) which included some amazing appetizers and open bar. Our first night we decided to take advantage of the in house dinner menu and it was terrific as well. Tried the filet with mushroom risotto and also the beef stroganoff with rice. We both shared and enjoyed immensely. Dessert was vanilla ice cream with an amaretto/maple sauce. I would drink that with a straw by the way. I was even given seconds on dessert, thanks Jim. We had the loft room in the main house which has its own balcony, fireplace, bathroom, AC unit, sitting area, etc, etc, etc. They think of all the touches including drinking water, smart TV, a fridge, and even simple things like eyeglass cleaning wipes in the room. Very comfortable room, king bed, and overall feel. I should probably mention that each morning we had a custom gourmet type breakfast. Odilia likes to cook and she is good at it. Our last morning we even took our breakfast out on the main deck and enjoyed the breathtaking views. We went hiking that morning and they even let us check out a little late so we could shower up before moving on to our next city. Speaking of which, we were also able to request a to go lunch for our hiking days. Food was great and plentiful. Became lunch and snacks for the day. Big thanks to Jim and Odilia. The host were attentive and the B&B was within walking distance to the Main Street. They also excepted dogs and they also had a cute dog. I thought the room was cozy although my friend who actually booked the room did think it was small. They offered a breakfast, but when we arrived the host was on the phone booking a guest. We both were a tad confused on how to proceed so we decided to leave and get on with our day. Visiting Silverton Inn of the Rockies (aka The Alma House) is like a visiting a friend's house...if…read moresaid friend owned a beautiful, painstakingly restored historic boarding house haunted by three spirits. Innkeepers Albert and Betty make The Alma House feel like your home away from home in the mountains. Before I delve into what's so great about this place (and the ghosts therein), please indulge me in some history. Bridget Hughes opened The Alma House in 1902 as a boarding house for local miners. Many mining towns died in the early 20th century, but Silverton survived, as did The Alma House, which has operated continually ever since. Current owners Albert and Betty purchased the property in the late 1980s, restoring it to its original glory. The interior is brimming with Victorian elegance, all polished mahogany, period fixtures (lamps, armoires, vanities), and antiques. Every nook features some vintage artifact, some cool story that Albert and Betty are eager to tell. I could have spent a week here and still not seen everything. The amenities are the best of both worlds: vintage Victorian and modern. For every quaint touch (old-school physical door keys, narrow, vertigo-inducing staircases), you'll find something modern and convenient, such as WiFi and renovated bathrooms with shower heads tall enough for non-midget boarders. Every morning, Albert will whip up a delightful complimentary breakfast that could include just about anything. On the day I visited, my breakfast consisted of perfectly scrambled eggs, crisp bacon, a mini biscuit topped with mushroom gravy, a "breakfast slaw" of cabbage, strawberries, apples, feta, and poppyseed dressing, and a mini waffle sandwich with whipped cream and blueberry compote. You won't find a breakfast of this caliber at a chain hotel. Oh, you want to hear about the ghosts? I thought you'd never ask! The moment I crossed the threshold, I sensed the presence of three spirits. I said nothing to Betty and Albert, as I feared they would take me for a loon. As an investigator of all things paranormal, though, I had to know if my clairsentience was accurate. That evening, I broke out my instrumental trans-communication equipment and conducted a session in my room. Within minutes, I reached a male spirit identifying himself as "Mark." He revealed himself to me mentally as a man decked out in late 19th-century military garb, but his face was blurry. "Mark" spoke the names "Albert" and "Elizabeth" (Betty) and said that he chose to remain there. I was still hesitant to broach the subject of spooks and specters with the innkeepers, but I screwed up my courage and went downstairs to discuss my findings with Betty. She smiled warmly and confided in me that the Alma House is indeed haunted by three spirits, one of whom (an older man nicknamed "The General") has been seen/felt/heard in my room (#3, The Alamosa Room) and the room next door (#5, The Silver Vista). The other two spirits, she continued, are those of Bridget Hughes and a portly woman nicknamed "The Schoolmarm." Later that night, I meditated and called upon Mrs. Hughes. For this session, I decided to use only my new EMF detector, The Rook. I had already done a baseline sweep of the room and found no EMF readings. I did this to rule out any false positives. I asked Mrs. Hughes to step forward and make The Rook flash once for "yes" and twice for "no." To my surprise, she (or whomever was in the room) obliged, setting off The Rook only when asked a yes/no question. I learned that she approved of the current innkeepers, disliked The General, and considered my Nickelodeon pajama bottoms tacky. The next time you visit Silverton, skip the overpriced, overhyped Wyman and Grand Imperial and book a room at The Alma House. Back in its storied history, relax, and make two new friends...and maybe three new dead friends.
