We drove here only to learn they'd discontinued selling cheese. What a waste of time and gas.

This place is the real f$&@ing deal…read more When you hear "Portland charcuterie," the first thought you probably have is a very expensive miniature spread of minimal, mediocre food and a lot of pretentiousness. This is the absolute opposite of that. The owner of this food truck is incredible. He is passionate about what he does, and he wants to make his customers truly happy with his product. And he sure does. Vegan? Vegetarian? Gluten-free? Meat-eater? He's got you. And you aren't an after-thought. Cashew cheese? Homemade mushroom pate? Ghost pepper cheese? Carefully and perfectly selected vegetables to go with it all? It's unreal. It's affordable, delicious, and so thoughtfully put together. I hope this food truck truly succeeds and that everyone can enjoy what it has to offer. Portland's best.

In a chapter of our local food scene's history when everything is getting dramatically more expensive while contrarily portions are getting dramatically smaller and smaller -- The Portland Board delivers. I got the Vegan Vibes board: 1. *standing ovation to The Portland Board for having a plant-based option without having to be asked or reminded that we like to eat too* It's nice not to feel like an afterthought. Also, if you're gluten-free they can accommodate you too! 2. The price was super reasonable: $18, and (segue)... 3. The "board" (because I got mine to go) had SO MUCH GOING ON. I was actually delightfully overwhelmed by the generosity. My board had pickles and olives, homemade beet hummus, a homemade mushroom paté, a homemade wedge of cashew cheese, loads of berries and grapes and peppers and cucumbers and carrots, and a mound of crackers and bread. And, no, I didn't share. Because I like to feel full after eating something I spent money on (c'mon, new restaurants and other charcuterie board businesses: in the words of our freed girl Britney "give me, give me more, give more, give me, give me more"). Also that cashew cheese was *impressive*; I've been making my own nut-based cheeses for a decade and they're good, but this? This was exceptional. I hope that The Portland Board is able to keep their current prices and their portions in this ever-changing, ever-demanding, ever-weird chapter in our food and beverage's history.

FINALLY was able try this place for lunch the other day. This is such a perfect hole in the wall…read moreold school kind of place. I got Pierogis to go and got a mix of the cabbage and onion ones and the cheese/potato ones. They were exactly what you would want. The dough was soft and perfectly cooked with a slight crisp on the outside with plenty of sour cream. There's limited seating so this is def a good take out spot. Cannot wait to come back and try a few more items on the menu. My advice- get both kinds of pierogis, and when you start to get full, pull the innards out of the cabbage/onion ones and add it on top of the potato ones. SO good.

I was the only customer, the only American, and I was in some side street in Warsaw. I had had Bigos at Karczma in Brooklyn and at Stash's in Old Montreal. This was better. All choices of pirogi are vegetarian and you get five with your order. I couldn't finish them; brought them home to my daughter. You are surrounded by Polish staples- I brought home fresh rye bread baked that morning, five kinds of mustard, borscht, frozen guylas. Bogusha and Eva were most engaging, said if I ate the entire loaf of bread, I would become Polish. This place and its women are fantastic!

As if the Cheese Shop on Washington Ave. wasn't already heaven, this expansion/rebranding to a…read moresecond location on Forest Ave.--now both called Sissle & Daughters--brings the best of that store to an all-day cafe and specialty grocer. Think European bistro sensibility combined with a laid-back Maine vibe. In the store section you'll find a small selection of cheese and other specialty items you can get on Washington Ave., along with some prepared foods you can take away. These are really delicious: so far I've tried some peanut noodles and also a carrot parsnip soup that was off-the-charts decadent (I gussied it up with a garnish when I got home and I swear it looked like something you'd get at a high-end place like Twelve, and tasted just as good). And the all-day cafe: this is SO great!! It's airy and bright inside with big windows; great for sipping a latte or having a glass of wine and watching the weather. In the mornings there's a full coffee bar, which goes until 3pm; a mid-day menu kicks in sometime in the late morning and features a daily soup and salad, a frittata, and a couple of rotating sandwich choices. At 3 it's wine bar time and the menu shifts again to offer cheese and charcuterie selections, a choice of pâtés, and a few other items like salads and olives and oeufs mayo (mmmmmm), all of which come with house-made crackers or bread. It's super smart to have curated menus like this: it means they can rotate items depending on the season or chef's whim, and just focus on making a few things and making them really well. There's a bar with around a dozen seats and a few more tables as well, so plenty of room for a convivial atmosphere. Honestly, even though they've only recently opened it already feels like a friendly and established neighborhood spot! As always, the staff are wonderful and super knowledgeable about everything they're serving; definitely ask for their recommendations. Oh, and there's (usually) plenty of parking in their lot--be sure to use their validation system when you come in (there's a place to scan both outside and in, and once you've done it it's easy enough). Sissle & Daughters is a super welcome addition and very much worth the drive to Woodfords Corner!

We went in for drip Coffee, some snacks, and to check out the market section. Unfortunately, the coffee was burnt and overly bitter and it was a brand new caraffe that we waited ten minutes for, the coffee cake was very dry and had a sour flavor that wasn't fully appetizing, the quiche slice was good enough, and the market area is more of a gesture or distilling of a store. If you're looking for specialty products definitely still go to the Cheese Shop (I and everyone we know is still calling their first location its original name). Hoping this was just first week kinks, will definitely update when we give it another try.
