This place is GREAT! Awesome caviar selection I mean next level. Fresh fish and seafood as well and a ton of tinned and canned seafood, really nice wide variety of cheeses and salumies and snacks. Looked like a really nice wine selection but have to be honest never made it past the caviar menu. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff! Great at offering suggestions, explaining and educating on what you want or looking for or just looking to try something new. Great location, easy access and plenty of parking. They have online shopping and will ship! This is THE place for all your seafood options for special occasions or just a Tuesday snack! It's literally our last stop on way home from Portland.

I love this market for hard-to-find bougie treats that take me back to grocery shopping in various EU counties. There is also a nice selection of local craft concoctions like jams and hot sauces, and a great selection of wines at various price points. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the sticker shock. Some of the items you can definitely get cheaper elsewhere (at Hannaford even!), and buying a few items will definitely set you back a few $$, but if you you feel like treating yourself, getting a unique hostess gift, or have a lot of disposable income, go for it!

Nicest market we went to in Maine. The fish quality was far superior to anything we saw in the area besides Harbor Fish Market. The staff was outstanding at picking up the best quality fish for the day. The wine selection and pricing was also outstanding. We elected to cook one night for dinner with everything fresh from this place and everything was extremely fresh and flavorful.

Amazing experience. Great wine and cheese selection. Younger red head extremely helpful and had great insight. Even got us some plastic wine cups for the sailboat excursion we were heading on. Will most definitely be back, highly recommend.

I've bought caviar from them before and was quite pleased. This order included Kaluga Malossol Caviar, Hackleback Caviar, Whitefish Roe and Salmon Roe. My previous orders was excellent. This time, all 4 were so-so. To compare their Whitefish and Salmon Roe, I had some tobiko I bought which was leaps and bounds superior. I also had some Salmon Roe that had been frozen for 2 years. I wasn't expecting much from that frozen roe, but other than being saltier, but it was slightly better Brown Trading's. Tonight, I opened Brown's salmon roe to finish it off and was surprised to see a whitish film. What? It hasn't been opened that long. Taste was definitely off. Imagine my surprise when I looked the back label and saw the Salmon Roe Brown Trading shipped me was dated 04/03/22... $32 for 2 oz dated 04/03/22?

If you're into gourmet packaged seafood and other quality packaged goods, Browne Trading on Commercial St is your stop. They have Domestic and International caviar, Roes, packaged, Marinated anchovies, sardines and more items. Not to mention prime cuts of fish fillet, Smoked Salmon, etc. The brick space is impressive, with high ceilings and pipes. And, which we didn't venture, there's an upstairs wine selection. We'd gotten a wonderful Baguette from a bakery not far off and crackers elsewhere- so only needed a few things to savor and hold us off for a bit. Hubs reached for the Crème Fraîche, I picked a sublime Truffle Butter and both decided on a modest, $38 ounce of domestic Caviar (which we later found out that Harbor Fish Market has the SAME exact domestic kind for $17.99). We enjoyed our light nosh in our hotel room along with Marinated Sardines and the rest of the goods we purchased with our Banshee Sonoma Chardonnay we brought from home. If you're looking to impress with a few things, Browne might be for you for some items. For other items, keep your eyes open elsewhere.

We are huge fans of Browne Trading Market. We've gone a couple of times and have been very impressed with the whole store. From their huge wine selection (takes up about half the store!) to their fresh fish and other local goodies, this place has it all. First of all, their layout. I love the layout of the store, with fresh seafood being on one side, local goods on another side, and the wines at the top section of the store. They are always fully staffed and have plenty of attentive and friendly people ready to help you. The fish at Browne Trading Market is always fresh, and their variety is quite impressive. I've been comparing prices and they do seem to be a bit more expensive than other nearby seafood stores, but not by much. Besides seafood, it's worth mentioning that they offer local (and international) goodies like cocktail mixers, spreads, and even pastas. There's something for everyone here.

    Soup menu - changes frequently

The "Soup Nazi" from "Seinfeld" has some serious competition here, not in personality, but certainly in quality. This place is outstanding!!!!! Although many varieties, cuts, and creative creations of fish preparations - fennel salt, for example - are offered in addition to wine and cheese, the daily homemade soups are out of this world incredible with robust palate pleasing flavors and generous amounts of seafood, etc. A cup of soup was just $5, and a bowl $9. This is a definite must on any foodie tour, so get in here before we both starve. More soup for you! Come back, everyday!

We never heard of this place before the pandemic, and now that we discovered it I don't think we will ever stop ordering from it. The quality of the fish is amazing, and I love their selection of premium sushi fish, granted that their selection changes seasonally and quickly, so I had to watch their site for a month before finally hitting the buy button when the selection was right. Here's a run down: - bluefin tuna - probably our favorite item out of everything, so fatty, so flavorful, so delicious. Frankly from the site description I thought we were getting ling tuna, but I don't mind either way. - True yellowtail - I think this is otherwise known as amberjack. I thought it would arrive filleted and scanned, but it came with the skin and some bones. So after ambitiously watching a Morimoto video, I attempted to skim my own fish and it worked out OK (Not great). Not wanting to waste anything I put the skin and bones into soup, and it came out insanely rich and flavorful and Jell-O like Full of collagen. The fish made into sashimi was good, but the tofu soup I made out of the fish leftovers was even better. - Hokkaido scallops - enormously large (8 to a pound) but not as sweet as the ones I had in Japan, nor as sweet as the fresh ones from Maine. I'll probably stick with Maine scallops next time. - peekytoe crab - flavorful, but not as sweet as I thought it would be. I might try they are other lump crab next time. -monkfish - huge 2 pound package, which I suspect weighs more than 2 pounds, but we haven't dug into this one yet. And there you have it, $300 worth of seafood. Totally worth it in my opinion, we got it for a combination of a few celebrations (new job, lunar new year, Valentine's) but even after all that eating we still have a bit in the freezer, and will probably take another month or two to get through. Definitely premium quality, and we look forward to what's available when we finish our fish! (As long as they still have blue fin and true yellowtail lol... I need my tofu soup and Toro)

Is this restaurant sushi quality? I don't think so!!!

As if the Cheese Shop on Washington Ave. wasn't already heaven, this expansion/rebranding to a…read moresecond location on Forest Ave.--now both called Sissle & Daughters--brings the best of that store to an all-day cafe and specialty grocer. Think European bistro sensibility combined with a laid-back Maine vibe. In the store section you'll find a small selection of cheese and other specialty items you can get on Washington Ave., along with some prepared foods you can take away. These are really delicious: so far I've tried some peanut noodles and also a carrot parsnip soup that was off-the-charts decadent (I gussied it up with a garnish when I got home and I swear it looked like something you'd get at a high-end place like Twelve, and tasted just as good). And the all-day cafe: this is SO great!! It's airy and bright inside with big windows; great for sipping a latte or having a glass of wine and watching the weather. In the mornings there's a full coffee bar, which goes until 3pm; a mid-day menu kicks in sometime in the late morning and features a daily soup and salad, a frittata, and a couple of rotating sandwich choices. At 3 it's wine bar time and the menu shifts again to offer cheese and charcuterie selections, a choice of pâtés, and a few other items like salads and olives and oeufs mayo (mmmmmm), all of which come with house-made crackers or bread. It's super smart to have curated menus like this: it means they can rotate items depending on the season or chef's whim, and just focus on making a few things and making them really well. There's a bar with around a dozen seats and a few more tables as well, so plenty of room for a convivial atmosphere. Honestly, even though they've only recently opened it already feels like a friendly and established neighborhood spot! As always, the staff are wonderful and super knowledgeable about everything they're serving; definitely ask for their recommendations. Oh, and there's (usually) plenty of parking in their lot--be sure to use their validation system when you come in (there's a place to scan both outside and in, and once you've done it it's easy enough). Sissle & Daughters is a super welcome addition and very much worth the drive to Woodfords Corner!

We went in for drip Coffee, some snacks, and to check out the market section. Unfortunately, the coffee was burnt and overly bitter and it was a brand new caraffe that we waited ten minutes for, the coffee cake was very dry and had a sour flavor that wasn't fully appetizing, the quiche slice was good enough, and the market area is more of a gesture or distilling of a store. If you're looking for specialty products definitely still go to the Cheese Shop (I and everyone we know is still calling their first location its original name). Hoping this was just first week kinks, will definitely update when we give it another try.

This is the absolute opposite of that. The owner of this food truck is incredible. He is passionate about what he does, and he wants to make his customers truly happy with his product. And he sure does. Vegan? Vegetarian? Gluten-free? Meat-eater? He's got you. And you aren't an after-thought. Cashew cheese? Homemade mushroom pate? Ghost pepper cheese? Carefully and perfectly selected vegetables to go with it all? It's unreal. It's affordable, delicious, and so thoughtfully put together. In a chapter of our local food scene's history when everything is getting dramatically more expensive while contrarily portions are getting dramatically smaller and smaller -- The Portland Board delivers. I got the Vegan Vibes board: 1. *standing ovation to The Portland Board for having a plant-based option without having to be asked or reminded that we like to eat too* It's nice not to feel like an afterthought. Also, if you're gluten-free they can accommodate you too! 2. The price was super reasonable: $18, and (segue)... 3. The "board" (because I got mine to go) had SO MUCH GOING ON. I was actually delightfully overwhelmed by the generosity. My board had pickles and olives, homemade beet hummus, a homemade mushroom paté, a homemade wedge of cashew cheese, loads of berries and grapes and peppers and cucumbers and carrots, and a mound of crackers and bread. And, no, I didn't share. Because I like to feel full after eating something I spent money on (c'mon, new restaurants and other charcuterie board businesses: in the words of our freed girl Britney "give me, give me more, give more, give me, give me more"). Also that cashew cheese was *impressive*; I've been making my own nut-based cheeses for a decade and they're good, but this? This was exceptional. I hope that The Portland Board is able to keep their current prices and their portions in this ever-changing, ever-demanding, ever-weird chapter in our food and beverage's history.
