Now this particular bridge is located off KY route 7 in Northern Greenup Co. Very easy to find, yet if not careful you can easily pass it by. There are no signs like in the state of Indiana telling you there is a covered bridge ahead. Also, you can actually drive across this bridge because it is still used for automobile traffic. It spans 159 ft across Tygart Creek. This vintage beauty was built in 1855 and repaired in 1915. Damaged in flood in 1997, and repaired again. This is a Wheeler Truss Bridge, only example still standing. That's very interesting. I love searching these beauties out when I am roaming around the area on backroads...absolutely something you should see if in the area!!!

It is FREE and I very nice park. There are several vehicles there representing the US Army, US Air Force, US Marines and US Navy, and all the Wars that the Veterans of the USA were involved in. This is very nice and like a stated FREE. It is located on RT 23 along the Ohio River Kentucky Side. I recommend you stop and check it out. Smaller kids would really enjoy seeing the Plane, Helicopter and the Tank...I would definitely go here again, and I highly recommend if you are in the area...STOP and check it out.

This marker is located in rural Kentucky pretty far from just about everything. There is a small…read morechurch here and a small graveyard. The marker is at the intersection and there are signs nearby that indicate no parking. You'll want to park at the church and walk. The marker reads, "The first white child born of American parents west of the Allegheny Mountains - Mrs. Lucy Virgin Downs - was a resident of Oldtown, Greenup County, from 1807 until her death in 1847. She was the daughter of Jeremiah and Lucy Virgin, born September 17, 1769, in what is now Fayette County, Pennsylvania, near Uniontown, which was then called Beesontown. In 1790, with her parents and brother, Brice, she came to Limestone, now Maysville, Kentucky. In 1792 she and her brother moved to Cincinnati. She was married there to John Downs September 20, 1800, under a marriage license issued by General Arthur St. Clair as Governor of the Northwest Territory. In June, 1845, at a family gathering, she related that General George Washington visited her father and neighbor in 1773, when he was surveying a tract in Pennsylvania that was afterwards called Washington Bottoms. Many of her descendants are still living in this part of Kentucky. This marker was erected under the terms of the will of the late Jennie Scott Osenton, great-granddaughter of Lucy Virgin Downs." The front reads, "In 1873, line was extended from Grayson to Willard. Located here were a turntable, water tower, railroad scales, & engine house. Near-by, the Lick Branch & Lost Creek spurs, as well as EK coal mines and coal camp existed. In 1892, an angry mob stole the EK train and, south of here, lynched Austin Porter. And the reverse, "On Oct. 31, 1905, 6 men attempted to rob the safe at the bank of Willard but were thwarted by locals. The robbers escaped using an EK engine. They fled afoot up Johns Run & were later captured. In the 1920s, for $7.20 a month, children took the Blue Goose to school from Willard each day. Presented by EK Railway Society & Collis P. Huntington RRHS for their 50th anniversary." This is marker number 2301 and it was erected in 2009 by the Kentucky Historical Society and the Kentucky Department of Highways. It has the same text on both sides and reads, "Named for John Marshall, Chief Justice U.S. Supreme Court, 1801-1835. Founded as Marshall Academy, 1837, and chartered as Marshall College, 1858. Established as a state-supported institution, 1867. Granted university status, 1961." It was erected in 1975 by West Virginia Department of Archives and History. Marshall University grew from a small 19th century academy into a major public institution that anchors the life of Huntington. Its campus blends older academic buildings with modern facilities, giving the place a sense of steady evolution rather than abrupt change. The university is best known for its resilience and the way it rebuilt its community after the 1970 plane crash that shaped its identity for generations. Athletics remain a point of pride, with the Thundering Herd carrying the school's story far beyond West Virginia.
