While I was in the waiting room in August, I talked to a friend who also had an appointment who had my same procedure in November and he had the same black spot. I was told that the shot that was given to me could not have been done in the hospital because it was not approved by them. Why then did Sambursky use the procedure and how many other patients now have this black spot in their eye?

I went to see Dr. Sambursky and his wonderful staff, and immediately I knew this would be a great option for my eyes. Dr.'s office staff are so kind, their desire to help you is genuine. They walk you through every step of the procedure, they hold your hand during the procedure, and they follow up with you, all with such amazing customer service. And just 1 day later I am so amazed how I now can see so crisp and clear and feel great, and am on my way to a smooth recovery. The office never communicated to me that my LASIK evaluation appt would require my eyes to be…read moredilated, so I showed up by myself and was unable to have the evaluation because I needed to drive myself back home afterwards. The office also messed up scheduling my LASIK surgery appt. I live in NC and I was only visiting NY to have this surgery, so when I made the appt they told me that my surgery was booked for the Monday immediately following my Wednesday evaluation. However during my evaluation, they told me that they did not have my surgery date scheduled and that they no longer could fit me in on Monday despite me driving all the way from NC for this procedure. After all this, they said they could just "reschedule me again for a later date" despite the fact I told them I don't live in the area and I only made the commute from NC to NY in order to have this procedure done. They then just casually told me "then you're free to leave." I'm an easy-going guy but this was extremely frustrating and I would not recommend this place to anyone. I'm very disappointed because I was looking forward to having LASIK done, and I'm very upset at all the time I wasted because of the poor communication and the scheduling failures of this office.

My son's glasses broke and needed the prescription to get new glasses, called and spoke with Bernice and she was quite unpleasant and offered no help with situation (even though I had scheduled a new eye appt which is 1 month from now). She didn't offer to make an eye prescription exception/extension because my son's glasses broke. Things happen and because it didn't fall within the time frame my son should not suffer. Possibly if they had emergency time set up during the day for customers like this my son would be able to get in sooner. Not this place. I asked for the old prescription and she provided me with a copy and her hand written, marker EXPIRED. Your deviance, pernicious is duly noted! The eye place I have an appointment with requests the current (or old in my case) prescription and she made it a point to cause me embarrassment as they could plainly see from the date that it would be calculated expired. Dr. Pisanchyn is a pleasure though. It's too bad we will not be returning here for future visits. Some staff may need additional coaching.

Last ditch effort I really dug in and started researching who was the best. Dr Colella to the rescue. He gave me the most thorough eye exam I've ever had. He was kind and told me what he was doing and what the results meant. He spent 5 times more time with me than all 3 doctors combined. After being in the chair for 5 minutes I knew I came to the right place. He even stayed late on the day before a holiday for my exam. I couldn't be more pleased to be able to see again and any more thankful for Dr Colella.

They could've eyed that plasma spot (better parking, safer hood near BU), but system inertia won: Cheaper for them, shittier for you. What Now? But the nurses DO know you and care deeply. They no doubt lack the resources places like Memorial Sloan Kettering has, but hospitals like MSK are more like a business anyway, and the resources they advertise don't exist. I write this as someone mad at the treatment from esteemed cancer hospitals and mad that Broome Oncology doesn't have more resources because they might just use them. They brought Thanksgiving Dinner to our home because after diagnosis and midst treatment, holidays were a thing of the past. They helped us keep our electricity on. I can say that Broome Oncology doesn't want my wife to die, but the larger and more esteemed the cancer institute, the more they care about the patient as a research study and not a person. Before diagnosis, we thought oncologists were like Wilson on House. Isn't that hysterical? We needed to believe he existed, but as a rule of thumb from what I have seen, your oncology nurses are the ones that work overtime and I imagine risk great burnout while the oncologists themselves? It is either a revolving door of people you see once or twice, or you see someone you see twice. I don't think that the oncologist could recognize my wife if she stood next to her at Wegmans, but I don't think we could, either. Cancer care is broken. I give four stars to the nursing and staff that have worked hard, very hard. If insurance is causing havoc, they are quick to resolve the problem. If you need a surgery at a big corporate cancer hospital, they will be on the phones trying to plead your case for housing. They don't have to do that, or bring Thanksgiving, or field my many worried calls but they do: four stars for the oncology nurses and the staff. As far as the oncologists themselves? Meh. That is all.
