Upon my arrival, I was greeted by the meditation teacher & front desk staff. They offered me a free cup of tea, a magnet with their logo and a tour of the space. The atmosphere was calm, it was beautifully decorated, had lots of resources too-including books and items for sale such as jewelry, t-shirts and crystals. There was light music playing in the background and the smell of incense burning. While waiting for the class to start I was able to sit With the teacher and connect on a more personal level. I left class feeling rejuvenated. The center offers classes for adults and children, reiki healing, & massage therapy. It's truly a one of a kind place in the greater Philadelphia area!

It's an interfaith "resort" for the soul and spirit, run by progressive Roman Catholic nuns who are are kind, welcoming, and very encouraging of people of all faiths converging on their peaceful, beautiful RESIDENTIAL facility in order to meditate, or pray, for the purpose of refreshing one's spirit and calming one's mind. In May 2013 I attended a 2-night silent "Insight/Vipassana" meditation retreat idirected by Matthew Daniell (of the Cambridge Insight Meditation Society) who had in turn been invited to Haverford, PA by the Phildelphia Meditation Center. Note that non-Catholic retreats are not likely to be listed directly on St. Raphaela's retreat calendar - I suggest you google "meditation retreat + Saint Raphaela" to find a Buddhist-/meditation-oriented retreat scheduled at St. Raphaela . Depending on the retreat program you choose to attend you may be able to get a single room or a shared room. Accomodations are clean, bright and simple - NO frills, but cheerful, quiet and very comfortable. The nuns who run the retreat center are good cooks but don't expect the Four Seasons (the retreat I attended was lacto-ovo vegetarian). Desserts were REALLY yummy. ; )) The grounds are lovely and provide ample personal space for "retreatants" and lots of room for walking meditation. In short, you can experience a truly serene and "life-resetting" retreat experience here that is far less expensive that what you would pay at high price-tag "trendy" places like OMEGA or KRIPALU. Easy to get to from 'center city" Philadelphia by a quick commuter train ride plus a short taxi jaunt, or you can take a cab from the Philly city center all the way for about $45.

Admittedly it's a bit weird at first. I'm glad I stuck with it. Feeling much happier and far less anxious. I'm bothered less by normal day to day issues. How it works: I've studied other forms of meditation. The form practiced at Mainline is based on the 'subtraction method.' The idea is that worries and anxieties are caused by thinking about the past or future. Through meditation, you will 'throw away the images' of your past. Think of it like cleaning your brain. It gets full of junk over the course of your life. Cleaning makes a huge difference...so much lighter and free. It was difficult the first time I did this. Lots of memories I didn't like. It got easier each time I did this. How long does it take? The answer is based on how long you've been alive. More living means more memories to clean. Have patience, the results will come.

I wanted to focus on something that was practical and would have longstanding benefits besides my usual turn up! After I attended a recent yelp workshop about reiki healing, It inspired me to search for a place that focused on natural and holistic living and that's when I discovered Ms. Linda and the lovely wellness in harmony center. Being a busy social worker, auntie, daughter and all my other earthly titles, can get overwhelming, not to mention, I'm considered an "empath" so I'm sensitive to people's energies- yupp I'm weird lol. With all that going on, it can create an inbalance within and take me away from my authentic loving self. Ms. Linda worked with me to balance my energies through meditation, reiki and chakra healing. We discussed the importance of nature, plants, essential oils, bath salts and himalayan salt lamps. Overall I left feeling mentally refreshed with mindfulness and the readiness for a new start. I learned that sometimes it's okay to unplug self! Thank you, Ms Linda and Wellness and Harmony for the wonderful birthday gift!

She really listens to what you need. I highly recommend Wellness in Harmony and will continue to work with Linda to achieve my dream of parenthood.

We go about 2x a week and I've always had a very welcoming and great experience. The staff is very friendly and I've gotten to know them on a personal level. It was important to me to find a yoga class at a gym that was a little more spiritual than I've found at past gyms and this definitely exceeded my expectations. After getting to know the instructors, and telling them what my goals are, they've been extremely supportive in pushing me beyond what I think I can do and helping me reach some of my goals so soon. It's about a 20 minute drive for me and DEFINITELY worth it.

I didn't even have my membership for a month because within less then a month the instructor didn't show up 5 times! Brenda and Abby are great and are way too good for Guru Fitness under these owners! 4 of those 5 classes were Kelly's classes that she just didn't show up to. 1 of those classes was a scheduling error made by Kelly. I've never been to any sort of business that the owner has no idea how to run it. I am now going to a yoga gym 40 minutes from my home that is also reasonably priced, Guru was just 5 minutes away! Also, my sister-in-law had a membership there and they accidentally overcharged her several times. They were willing to reimburse her, but how does that happen on multiple occasions? I am so disappointed in my experience with Guru, and until they have new owners, or until Kelly takes some business classes to understand how to run a business, I HIGHLY recommend going to any other yoga gym - it'll be worth the price no matter how much more expensive it is!
