However I found them to be very expensive compare to others. In speaking with friends that had the same for their parent as I, they couldn't believe how expensive MKD is. As a matter of fact when I questioned some of the charges the sales person said to me, "we are not going to nickel and dime this." I thought that was very rude. I didn't say anything at the time. My final 1 rating is for the experience I recently had again with the same sales person. I told him my mother had COVID and she was dying. He didn't listen and filled out the incorrect papers which then complicated my application to resources that were available to family of COVID patients. (I can't go into details on here.) The funeral director that I was working with tried to help in rectifying the matter but wasn't successful. One of the owners even called me but all he could do was speak highly of the person I was referring to and the funeral home. They took no responsibility for their error and didn't offer and kind of compensation.

It's gone corporate & part of a conglomerate, like a car dealership - drive through service. Very professional and organized which was appreciated. Facilities are very nice as were the staff. Plenty of visiting space. Staff was responsive to queries andade themselves available. Flexibility previously seen in scheduling, accommodating the family, and honoring for some aspects of contracted services has been lost, e.g. they would not keep/refrigeratorate the casket floral arrangement until internment 4 days later. Guest refreshments contracted and paid for had to be renegotiated. Refreshments provided were very nice.

My oldest brother & I are unable to travel. Matt organized things in Michigan, Iowa, Georgia & Maryland. He is incredibly gifted with all the necessary skills. We dealt with 2 different agents, both of whom were excellent to deal with. The process for selecting the casket, printed materials, and flowers ON SITE went very smoothly. Mike Matthysse took great care to understand details about the deceased and make sure our obituary was perfect and to our liking.Their facility (we used the Grandville location) was spotless, with several helpful staff to direct people. Our committal was some distance away and required a procession with flags on the cars from the funeral home to the cemetery. This was handled flawlessly. They also provided a quiet time for anyone present to approach the casket before lowering it. We had them provide a luncheon after the funeral, which was delicious and beyond our expectations. MKD handled the payments for church, music, sound, custodian, and lunch. After the service they packaged everything up while we mingled with the luncheon guests, and included some thoughtful remembrances, along with advice for handling after death details. I have no hesitation in recommending MKD.
