After climbing a full set of stairs (handicap accessible only on the first floor thru a side ramp), you enter a grand foyer lit by brass chandeliers with a dramatic staircase on each side. Entering thru double doors, you are in the main ballroom that has two fireplaces and crystal chandeliers. The main ballroom leads to an enclosed Veranda that offers great views of a wooded back yard and grounds. There is a small exhibit room up stairs and a parlor where we all gather for a family member's wedding ceremony and big reception afterwards, outside. All was great on the location and venue choice tip. My only gripe with this venue, was the poor planning for a large wedding party. My cousin had her wedding here in August (dog days of summer) and the venue provided a really nice tent set up for an outdoor reception. It really fit the bill until you walked inside and realized it felt like a greenhouse! The outdoor AC units were running on high and useless. The venue management should have planned better given the weather and knowing it's the dead middle of the summer in MD....which is always HOT! The tent was apparently setup shortly, hours before their wedding and the AC units did not have time to cool the place. Instead, they should have been running overnight because it was extremely uncomfortable and everyone was sweating bullets in the place--drenched. lol. It definitely dampened the occasion for such a nice venue. Other than this, I have nothing but good things to share about this venue. The staff were friendly, helpful and guest felt at home....despite the AC issue. If you are looking for a place that feels inviting, relaxed and a bit like home for your next engagement, I would suggest this place as a "potential" option....just make sure it is not in the dead heat of the summer.

It was an annual ceremony given for Veterans and their families, who have served and were not recognized and given thanks for all they contributed for freedom. Especially interesting was a POW soldier who was in an enemy prison for 6 years. There were many stories shared. All branches of the armed forces were there and they were key note speakers. Also some political representatives (local). They had a fantastic buffet meal for all.

Our guests have been telling us since that they had the best crab cakes ever at our wedding and it was the best wedding food. Our food was hot, fresh, and beautifully displayed. When we met Brian to discuss the possibility of using his catering service, it was readily apparent that this wasn't his first rodeo and he did not hesitate to share insight gained from his many years of being in the business. Importantly, he approached our first meeting as a consultation rather than a sales pitch. Confident in the product he offered, he walked us through the various options that were available, constantly reiterating that there was always the choice of choosing from off the book if we had something else in mind. I suspect this occurs with most couples planning their wedding, but as the discussion progressed, Brian laid out the long list of different considerations that go into hosting a successful event and we watched as our hypothetical budget grabbed its hat and started walking out the door. Thankfully, Brian was able to point out what items are critical and which ones are just nice to have. This let us move forward with confidence that we would have what we needed on the day of our wedding and to pick and choose the things we personally viewed as important from that "nice to have" list. He was ready and willing to work with the budget we had in mind, which went a long way in setting us at ease even as we were engaging numerous other vendors and getting ready to put our checkbook through an Olympic-caliber training regimen. Before we signed on the dotted line, we were given an opportunity to visit Brian at his kitchen to review a combination of dishes that he recommended along with a couple that we requested. He prepared enough of each dish to give us a very good sense of what we could expect on the day of the event. During our first meeting, Brian assured us that the food he made was top notch and, when we left the kitchen that day, we were not disappointed. Once the contract was signed and the menu was agreed upon in principle, Brian remained responsive and was proactive about engaging our other vendors to ensure that they were operating on a coordinated front on the day of the wedding. We were fortunate enough to work with a number of great vendors but Brian stood out for his willingness to take the lead and ensure that the points in which his service was handing off to another vendor were seamless. When you are planning a wedding from scratch with a multitude of moving pieces, this is an invaluable attribute to have in your caterer. On the big day, Events Catering provided a plated spring mix salad, passed appetizers of bacon-wrapped scallops, crab balls, caprese shooters*, and a table of veggies and cheeses just to get things started. Dinner was a buffet affair with pit beef, pulled pork, turkey, potato salad, and mixed veggies. Everything was a hit! While Brian was our main point of contact and great to work with, we would be remiss if we didn't also applaud his staff that worked the event that day. They were incredibly accommodating and very pleasant as they went about serving our guests. Even with small things like holding the doors open while the wedding party was being introduced, it was clear that they were there to help make the day successful rather than just do their job and go home. For the prospective brides- and grooms-to- be reading this, you can be confident that while your guests are being well tended, you, too, will be receiving the royal treatment. One of the greatest concerns and regrets you hear from couples is that they never got to eat the food and drinks that they just spent months meticulously arranging. Thanks to the catering staff, that was not an issue for us. A dedicated staff member ensured that we had appetizers set aside for us and the wedding party and that we always had a drink in hand if we wanted it (For your HIMYM stalwarts, think Linus and the Kennedy package).
