Oh. MY!!! Just wow. I happened across this little piece of sweet heaven today and was greeted by the sweetest, most helpful lady who was happy to answer allllll of my many questions. I ordered a slice of carrot cake, a peanut butter fudge brownie and took home a braided multigrain loaf. The multigrain loaf is a deal at just $5 and it is very soft. The carrot cake was so moist and flavorful... oh my!!! The icing ... drool. My husband was blown away by the peanut butter brownie. Simply Sweet by Margarette is a hidden jewel in Tupelo. It is about as local of a lunch place & extremely fine bakery, as one could find. Margarette is such a kind soul. Her meals & baked goods are divine. She sells lots of beautiful candies, both regular & sugar-free! Her homemade breads & pretzels are delicious! My personal favorite cake is her apple cake with caramel! OMG! Heaven on a plate. Buy one piece & you will soon be buying the entire cake! Everything about Simply Sweet is magnificent! The desserts and chocolates are phenomenal! We discovered this gem via Yelp and it most certainly didn't disappoint. We travel often and we always look for the local treasures, the small mom and pop places and this was worth our entire visit to Tupelo. We traveled from Las Vegas, NV to Selmer, TN. We decided to explore past the Stateline to venture into MS and this little gem of a place was the highlight for us. We tried the chocolate tres leches cake. Perfection! Nice cholcate flavor, the light chocolate whip cream topping, and it was not overly saturated with milk like most tres leches cakes. We bought several chocolates and desserts to take back to family in Selmer. Next time we're in TN, we will most certainly be back for this little place. We had already had lunch so we can't comment on those but I bet they're awesome. The Owner is the sweetest German lady. Five stars all the way around! read more

I wanted nothing but the best for my 55th birthday, so I asked my husband to get my birthday cake from Simply Sweet by Margarete. I didn't care what kind of cake he got--it just had to be from there. He brought me two cake halves: a divine blueberry cake and a heavenly coconut cake. I will never get another grocery store cake again! There's just no comparison. Was told by my foodie friend that we needed to stop by and get us a little something sweet, that was was just what my co-worker and I did! Yes, it was late afternoon but hey, no one was going to stand between us and anything chocolate! Was greeted with an extremely friendly young lady! When we questioned her what was this and what was that: she didn't stumble on her descriptions on any of the multiple cakes and bars that we asked about! My friend had a slice of the red velvet cake and a brownie topped with cream cheese and chocolate - I tasted the brownie and it was DIVINE! I'm not a huge red velvet fan so I let her enjoy every little bite! (Mind you, she didn't eat it all in one sitting!!) I had a piece of the Coconut Surprise. It was shortbread cookie, cream cheese, coconut pudding and whipped cream. It was light and heavenly! I also took a truffle back to the hotel to enjoy later on after dinner. It, too, was incredible - I asked the young lady to surprise me because I couldn't decide between the Irish Cream and the Amaretto. She picked the Irish Cream! I had high hopes of us getting back before we left town, but it didn't happen. I will definitely go back when I come to visit Tupelo! read more

Best in Tupelo for pastries and German cooking. but it's also the only german food in Tupelo. The cakes and pastries are excellent. The bread is mediocre at best, it's soft and gooey not crusty like German bread should be, and they don't bring it out til 10:00 am which is way to late for a bakery making fresh baked bread. That means you have to wait til the next day for breakfast and then it's not fresh. Any good bakery opens in the early am.The lunches are also just mediocre, except for the brats which are just plain bad. Nothing like a German brat but maybe they can't get the good stuff in Tupelo. Also the owner is a typical German, rude and doesn't give a $%#& if you have a suggestion. read more

Everything here is so good - pastries, cakes, breads, lunches. This is the best lunch spot and bakery in Tupelo. The service is also very good and fast, and prices are very reasonable too! I typically go at least once every week for lunch and load up on baked goods at the same time. It's too hard to resist all the fresh-baked goodness, and the wonderful assortment of selections there is always something to try. I've left completely satisfied every time. And their selections for the lunch menu and bakery items have been expanding, as I've noticed recently. Don't miss out on this place! read more

Wonderful bakery! Ordered a German chocolate cake and a coconut cake and both were delicious. Definitely from scratch very light and fluffy and not overly sweet like store bought cakes. Tupelo, MS was our stopping point on our cross country drive after the Christmas Holidays. We had a scrumptious dinner at Park Heights where we had the absolute pleasure of meeting Margarete. Margarete told us that she'd just opened a bakery of her own and invited us to stop by before we left town the next morning. Never ones to turn down any type of baked goods; we planned to snag breakfast there the next morning. The bakery is just off Main Street, just a hop and a skip from the cute little Tupelo downtown area. Once you walk in, you are greeted warmly by the bakery staff (which includes the darling hostess from Park Heights, Barbara) and are thrown into a flurry of indecision. Shall I have cake for breakfast? Nutella Crescents (which is what Nick had, and loved, I didn't even get a taste!)? Chocolates for the road? It was too hard to choose. So I went with my favorite breakfast treat, a Banana Nut Muffin. It was glorious. Just the right amount of moist banana wrapped in a fluffy muffin sprinkled with confectioners sugar. We also ordered coffee, which was not only perfectly brewed but graciously served in lovely china cups with saucers. We sat at one of a handful of cafe tables with festive tablecloths and tea candles. It was the perfect way to start our day and we look forward to visiting with Margarete and Barbara next time we stay in Tupelo. read more
