I know a few Connies so not coming here wasn't exactly an option for us during our Deep South road trip. I did kind of get the vibe we were annoying the staff by walking into the place, they weren't nasty but not welcoming either. I am a vegetarian and GF is intermittently a vegetarian so we both skipped out on the fried chicken. I really wanted to try the blueberry donuts which met expectations. They were fantastic. I looked at them right outta the bag and they were steaming. We got a couple sides as a "snack". The mashed potatoes were EXCELLENT. I also enjoyed the mac and cheese. Three words ~ Chicken Gravy Biscuit Wow, some of the best food you can eat for a fat food joint. Their quality and service are fantastic. Most come for the Blueberry donuts which are very hard to describe until you have actually tried one. Was in town for a truck show, so I had to make a stop. Went to Connie's today after church. In years past, one would have to get there early or not have a place to sit. Not anymore and I can see why. The tenders were not good. The onion rings (Connie's used to have the best) were totally under cooked. Staff spoke so loud behind the counter one could not even carry on a conversation. I guess the last straw came when we wanted some ketchup. They are now watering the ketchup down that it is literally like water. Would not stay on your rings or fries. One of the girls was rude. Hardly any french fries with the kids meal. i ordered sauces but the girl kinda threw the meals on the counter and didnt bother to check so another lady kindly put them in. The following two visits, I was met with inattentiveness, and more or less, people doing the minimum...in fact, as I waited, at least a full minute or two, standing at the counter, waiting to be greeted or recognized, one employee stood right in front of me, leaning on the counter, on her phone, and never even looked at me... I know people come here for the fried chicken, BUT their grilled chicken and grilled chicken salad is delish! The vegetable of the day always seems to be green beans, which is good. The beans are sweet and tangy, I still don't like the mashed potatoes it tastes like fake butter flavor/ diacetyl, blah. Get the blueberry donuts before they sell out. Oh, and don't forget to add the gravy. It's just a simple white gravy that gets soaked up by the biscuit and holds it all together. All of the chicken is amazing, even the livers, and the rolls are just as good as the biscuits. If you want something lighter, they have an awesome salad bar. It looks small, but it's packed with a variety of items. Whether you dine in or drive thru, order some blueberry donuts to take with you. They are a treat, like little blueberry cakes. My first time eating at Connie's was over 20 years ago, and it's still just as good as I remember. Nothing has changed.
