They also have a summer calendar of daily activities like Lego and snack bar and gaming. There are gaming areas with twenty minute check-in sessions and 3D printers, embroidery machines and more. I really appreciate that because our trip to the library is usually hurried and we need to find good books fast. The librarians always help us find the books we are looking for. Don't miss out on their app, Cloud Library, that lets you borrow e-books and audio books. We use the self-checkout every time and it's really fast and easy. You can even scan your library card barcode on the library app. The library also has a number of private rooms you can borrow.

That said, I REALLY enjoy the Roanoke Library. My wife and I moved to Roanoke in July 2011, and I kind of stumbled across this little gem. Here's a summary: - It's small. Cozy, but not too small - every time I go, there's only one or two patrons in the whole place. - Free Wifi. A lot quieter to study/work here than Starbucks. - They carry fairly new items (in my category of interests, anyway). I managed to secure the Steve Jobs biography on hold, within a few weeks of publication. Beats spending the money on Kindle. - A part of the TexShare program, which allows me to borrow books from other libraries after being a local cardholder for 6 months. - Good movie selection, and blu-rays. Current stuff, stuff I would think would be "too new" for the library. Also, the week-long policy for movies is a plus. - Decent online holding and renewal system. I can check out a book for 2 weeks, but renew it up to 5 times online. Wow! That's cool. All in all, this childhood place of memory has re-entered my list of favorite places - good resources, friendly staff, and a quiet environment.

Unless, the employees are mean, all libraries get five stars. So, with that understanding, on to the review! The building, inside and out, is nice, but it is definitely small, when compared to most other area library at least. The downside to the size of this library is that it is hard to find a spot to actually read because this is a rather popular library. Realistically though, you can just take your books home, if there really is not a place to sit and read. But, if you're looking to study, you may want to call ahead to see if they have some kind of study space available or to at least get a feeling for how busy they are that day. And, speaking of studying, this library also has computer stations available. You have to sign up, but it's a pretty quick process. And, along with the size comes a reduced selection as the book selection is not extensive. But, you do not have to worry about wasting your time looking for a particular book because they have an online catalog. However, they do have a rather extensive collection of DVDs, with a few Blu-Rays thrown in as well. Again, if you're looking for something specific, you should call ahead or check out their online catalog. The children's section is separated from the rest of the library, and it even has its own separate computer stations available, just for the kids. I appreciate this type of firewall because it keeps the kids out of my area. And, the staff there is always watching, so you can feel safe taking your kids here. As for the staff, they are warm and courteous. If you need help, they will do whatever they can to make sure you get what you need. And, of course, as with any library, they have community boards (near the front doors) that advertise groups, story times, community events, and the like. It's a quick way to get the rundown on what's going on in our community, and some of the groups are interesting. All in all, I recommend this library if you're in the area. Of course, if you're not, check out YOUR local library. I'm sure it's cool too.

Been visiting SAGU for about 10 years now and most of my friends go to SAGU but many don't voice…read moretheir opinions because of how controlling their staff is. I know many wonderful professors that go to SAGU and if you are wanting to go into ministry or music or maybe even film then this a good school for that. The communities can be very close knit here and they have a few great amenities like the wellness center. All that said, I will never be attending SAGU for a variety of reasons. Although they've become more lenient through the years, the rules and restrictions at SAGU are insane. There is no room for personal choice or responsibility and that is important and healthy for kids to be able to exercise their own free-will. But SAGU doesn't want that because they'd rather appease their idealistic board and uninvolved sponsors who are all 55+ in age. They also continue to spend money on things that make them look really fancy but don't really help the students that are already there. Like thousands of dollars on another Jesus statue. The worst of it is things you won't here about unless you're actually on campus and happen to meet someone involved in SAGU's many and frequent scandals. Not allowing students to walk for a variety of unscrupulous reasons. Pressing rules harder on kids with scholarships but turning a blind eye to kids who are having their tuition paid in full. Assault that was covered up to protect the image of the school. I think the biggest problem with SAGU or me is how they value their image so sacredly that its at the expense of their students. The dramatic cases put aside, you cannot justify the strictness of this school and this model is not just old-fashioned but obviously not working. When you care so much about wether you're students are playing COD or if they put a Drake song on their instagram story but then you ignore when there are much worse problems that you just don't want to face. If you go to SAGU you will find a community and you will get the connections needed for ministry or worship for sure. Every one of my friends who graduated SAGU has found a full-time position at a church, good friends, and some even a spouse. Just be prepared for some very high and dubious standards that will hopefully continue to fall away as the years go by.
