We were among the early parties, so the space was warming up for the night. Our guidebook recommended having a Dutch Rijtsttafel, and what better place to have it! This is a family-run establishment with a long history. Our menus came with Java-Bode, their house publication, detailing their 40-year history. The walls are adorned with vintage KLM Royal Dutch Airlines airplanes and advertisements. I love their nod to Dutch aviation. Our rijtsttafel was very enjoyable. It's hard to keep track of everything on the table, so I kept a menu for reference. What a great way to conclude our time in Holland!

Since it was our first time trying Indonesian food, we went with the Rijsttafel Biasa (the smallest menu option). It was a variety of small plates served on portable burners to keep everything warm, accompanied by rice. It was the perfect introduction--there wasn't a single dish I didn't love. Even though the plates look small, we were completely full and satisfied by the end. We managed to finish just in time for the reserved party to take the table, so it worked out perfectly. Highly recommend booking a table in advance, but if you get the chance to eat here, definitely do it!

(As much as I'd hate to group Bloemendaal with Zandvoort) The food is outstanding, especially the rijsttafels, which include a vegetarian one (and Yanie is always willing to make me one with extra peanut sauce items). The best part about Pondok Yanie, in addition to the great food and very relaxing dining area, is the service. I'm not sure I've ever had better service in my life. Even though I only go here once or twice a year when I'm in the country, Yanie always remembers me, knows what foods I like best, and asks about the family, how my life is in the U.S., etc. She also does a great job preparing and wrapping up a big rijsttafel order to go, for if we want to stay in and watch a movie.
