It's safe to say that I have "retired" that negative sense of my voice. Instead, Becca has taught me to remain open and curious about my instrument. My awareness of breath control and the smallest internal modulations and shaping of my internal space have all resulted in a profound improvement in the resonance, roundness and richness of my voice. I started Vocal Yoga classes and Private Voice Lessons with Becca a few months back and it definitely has been a rewarding, eye opening, and HEART opening experience.  It is very interesting to see how these two fields work in tandem. Becca is such a kind and nurturing soul. With that comes a personal comfort in the vulnerability of freeing your voice! I am fairly new to yoga. I injured both ankles in the past and was a little hesitant to hop into a regular yoga practice. I am super glad that I did, though! Becca is a wonderful teacher and easily accommodates to your personal needs -- weaknesses & strengths. The smaller class setting provides a nurturing environment for individual attention and personal growth. That is something I know I need and truly benefit from. The class starts and ends with chanting, which is really great for singers! They also focus a lot on breath and poses for singers. Twists, stretches, core work, etc. ALL THE THINGS that make you feel like you could sing an opera after class (okay, maybe not an entire opera...) People of any level will get something from yoga classes, whether you are a first time yoga student, or a seasoned yogi. Go and find out for yourself! Voice lessons have been an absolutely wonderful experience.  I kind of have a pinch of anxiety when it comes to singing in front of other people (and I'm sure lots of people do too) Becca is a natural teacher and creates a comfortably accepting and explorative environment. It has been exciting to discover where my voice is taking me. It's a musical adventure! Incorporating the breath and body awareness from yoga class into my vocal training has really made a difference. I can truly hear and feel how proper breathing affects the human voice. I am very pleased with the voice lessons I took with Becca. I was a professional singer but have been out of practice for several years. Becca is really learned, concise and thorough in what she does. She's able to sense your breathing patterns and the energy in your body, remotely, and gives you great tips and advice for healing your throat chakra (which controls so much of the body's functions, as it governs the thyroid), not only during the session but moving forward as well. She's also really great at scheduling and keeping appointments despite her busy life. She somehow manages to take her healings and clients' care very seriously but in a very soft way. She's extremely caring and wants only the best for them. She's firm where and when she needs to be (but in a soft way) and soft where and when she needs to be (but in a firm way.) If you have breathing, thyroid, addiction, or any issues speaking from your true self, she's the person to have a session with. I've not come across anyone better at these things. i purchased becca's yelp deal a couple months ago which proved to be a fantastic decision. i am a musician and have been playing guitar for almost 20 years now and even minored in music at loyola chicago, though i never actually cultivated my voice for a variety of reasons, most of them being negative. i have a great ear for pitch and can sing on key but was never actually taught the foundations of proper singing and was never encouraged to sing. even though i loved to sing i just assumed my voice sucked and to move on. that was years ago. i picked up yoga for real about 6 months back and noticed how much my posture and breathing improved, and as a result i was able to sing much more freely and passionately. i figured instruction combining the two, yoga and singing, must exist and would be ideal for my development. lo and behold, i find becca here on yelp and snag the advertised deal. after the first lesson it was clear that i was on the right path. with becca's stellar instructions, patience and insight, i finally laid the proper foundation for my voice and now consider it to be an instrument that i am becoming more and more fluent and expressive with. super exciting! if any of this resonates with you i suggest you give her a call. i feel its is one of the greatest gifts of the body to be able to sing and that every person should feel totally confident and comfortable to raise one's voice in song. the feeling of joy, the expression of self, the healing power of sound, the community of group performance - all of these things are your god given rights that singing is the body's gateway to. once you open that gateway there is no going back so do yourself a lifelong favor and start singing with confidence! if you need a teacher and are in portland, i found becca to be excellent and believe you will too! read more

I am a singer/ songwriter and piano teacher and I have been mis-using my voice for years. I recognized that I needed to form better habits, so I took some lessons from Becca to see if I could increase my vocal longevity. All I can say is WOW. I cannot recommend Becca enough, and I don't say this lightly. I am taking weekly lessons with her now, and I took private lessons with her weekly for four months fall 2015 and for a couple months spring 2015. I only stopped taking lessons with her because I went out of town. Becca's understanding of basic yoga principles address singing from a much more holistic perspective than I have experienced with other voice teachers. I experience so-far-chronic pain and have some stubborn postural and alignment issues, and Becca's teaching has allowed me to progress immensely with singing despite these problems presenting quite severely while I was working with her. I have taken a very wide variety of yoga classes, and require very specific alignment cues to feel any benefit. I compare Becca's lessons to Iyengar or Anusara style yoga classes because of the detail of her instruction, expertise, non-sappy but heartfelt motivation, and the way that the practice takes root over time in your life. Have you ever been in a yoga class and the teacher says something like "now open your heart space" and you think, that would be nice, I have known that feeling before, but today I need to take like 5 minutes to be able to do that, and I need specific instruction step by step, not 5 seconds? I had analogous experiences with other voice teachers saying things like "breathe into the sides and backs of your ribs," and they were not able to slow down and break down the actions bit by bit until I understood the new way of feeling that they were trying to teach me. Becca can, every time, and often she will intuit when she can help by breaking down something for you that she can tell you're not getting. After several months of study, I have been able to internalize her teachings and continue healing and expanding my voice even when I was traveling. Becca has been a crucial part of my growth as a musician and I'll be forever grateful that she teaches the way she does. read more
