A Subaru Impreza found at a Subaru dealer seemed good on paper and in the photos. But I NEVER accept a vehicle unless I run Carfax, AutoCheck and two free VIN history reports ("NICB VINCheck" and VINHISTORY "dot" com). Some bad vehicle are being sold by good and bad dealers. And sometimes Carfax misses stuff AutoCheck catches, and vice versa. In this case, there was no contradicting info, and only positive and helpful neutral details in these reports. BUT THIS IS NOT ENOUGH. No matter what anyone says, a used car is not worth buying if you cannot have a quality, reputable and competent shop perform a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Chris's Auto Repair (Anthony, Travis and company) did exactly what we needed and more. They not only did everything to evaluate the mechanical condition of the vehicle, but looked for evidence of past accidents/abuse. They even went into the car to tell us if it had any distinct odors that would turn us off. My customer and I made it known that we were VERY concerned about the cosmetic condition of the car. So, in addition to a full mechanical, structural inspection and road test, the tech's at Chris's provided us with a thorough understanding of the car's body (scratches, dings, dents, etc as well as any cracks in the vinyl bumpers and surrounds). There were a number of things that were not known that were revealed. The tire tread was beginning to separate, the front fascia/grill area was cracked (from someone banging into a cement parking barrier, and a number of less important items that were good to know up front. These were items that the dealer did not reveal to us. In the end, my customer decided that there was nothing so bad with the vehicle that she couldn't either live with or address when it was purchased and shipped to Denver. I could not be happier with the thorough and conscientious way that Chris's evaluated the Impreza. My customer was very glad she spent the money and entrusted this pre-purchase inspection to Chris's. Their website said an appointment usually takes 60-90 minutes, but I was very pleased he spent extra time (a little over 2 hrs.) doing my SUV. I am a newcomer to So. Dak. and snow country, so my SUV had only the undercoat the dealer had applied 18 yrs. ago in Calif. Kevin explained that some of the rubber plugs, whose purpose is to keep road moisture off the frame, were missing on the frame under my vehicle. However, he was able to treat those open areas with the Woolwax, so the frame is now protected from salt, brine and water despite the missing plugs. He also found some of the plastic shields under the wheel wells were loose due to some missing plastic clips, and he installed those clips. He explained I will no longer need to to get the underbody of my car washed when I go through the car wash, because the clear Woodwax treatment will protect the SUV from the salt, brine and water. He said the clear wax treatment will actually last longer if I DON'T wash the underbody of my car. Kevin texted me pictures of his completed work, and it couldn't look any cleaner under my car, in the wheel wells and in the door jambs. He took the time to patiently answer all my questions and explained the treatment should be reapplied each year. [A 50% discount will apply next year.] I highly recommend this business.

I called graham of Sioux Falls right away to schedule the repair. I was encouraged to schedule 3-4 weeks out to ensure a loaner would be available and that service would be ordering the parts right away. I was also reassured by Graham that my vehicle would be safe to drive in the intrum. I scheduled my repair for Oct 3 (almost 6 weeks out) and took a vacation day to come to Sioux Falls For the repair. I was in route to Sioux Falls October 3 when I received a call from the service department telling me all the parts had not come in (this call came in at just before 2pm) and I would have to reschedule mid to late November. I was very concerned about driving the vehicle even longer without the repairs being done but was reassured again by service that it would be safe to drive. An Appointment date was not offered during this call. I called back 6 days later to inquire about an appointment and to ask about the parts. I was told by service that yes all the parts were in but the service department is so busy, they could not get me in until mid to late November. I was very upset that I had already waited a reasonable amount of time for the repair and now I have to wait another 4-6 weeks as well as heightened concerned for the safety of driving the vehicle. Service again reassured me it would be safe to drive. No appointment was offered. So I called back again to speak to the manager. I was given his voicemail by a not so friendly receptionist. I left a message explaining my concerns and dissatisfaction (on Oct 10th). I had not received a call back so I sent an email on Oct 15 to Graham of Sioux Falls explaining this situation, my extreme dissatisfied, and complete surprise by the lack of follow-up and service recovery. I have yet to receive a call back from the service manager or a response from my email or a call to schedule this recall repair work and it is now Oct 20th, just over two months from my initial call. I would also need to schedule another vacation day to bring my car back to Sioux Falls for the repair and now my work schedule is made out through November. This is completely unacceptable. Recall work should be done in a reasonable timely manner and this does not seem like it. Also when I purchased the vehicle, I was told an oil change had been completed. There was a sticker on the windshield stating it had been completed but my vehicle's states that an oil change is over due. Because of this, I would NOT recommend Graham of Sioux Falls.

In May we took a car in for tires and had an oil change done. They had to order the air filter so sent our son home to come back later for it. As soon as he left the shop the check engine light came on. Called them and went back. Tech said they forgot to put the old air filter in so he should be fine now. We have had problems since and ultimately it was determined that we need a new engine. Manley is stating that there is NO way they did not put the filter in; they don't make mistakes like that and they have no idea why their employee would have said that but talked to him. The camera footage was already destroyed so they can't show us it was put in either. Had an employee say they were busy and that's when mistakes get made but the owner assures us it didn't happen and as long as that's what he says then it's our problem. Interesting when you read all the errors they make and how they have never filed with the BBB. The owner told us incorrect information regarding his insurance company and then dropped communication. He did file a claim with his insurance, but as long as he stands by it not being their fault then insurance is useless. Had car towed to another shop and video footage shows gouging in the cylinder. I'm not a mechanic but what I have learned is that debris can cause gouging and debris can get in an engine from an air filter being left out so if a car goes in with no issues as confirmed by their diagnostics but leaves with engine problems it seems VERY likely something happened during that service appointment. It seems much less likely that an engine that was fine, had 87k miles just broke down within a couple of miles of leaving their shop coincidentally like the owner is telling us.
