Schools don't always offer continuous art classes. Knowing that my kids LOVE the arts, it was a blessing to find a teacher just starting up drawing classes. Better to know that its on the WEST SIDE! The class he is starting for now is drawing. My daughter has been able to attend the 4 sessions for drawing and she has learned a lot! Each class she has been excited to come and always leave with wanting to draw more. I wish she had the same enthusiasm for violin and homework. 1st session she was able to learn the basics and she actually completed a cartoon drawing on her own. The other sessions she learned exercises that have improved her technique. I love that she enjoys it so much that we will definitely be signing up for more! As of now it is just drawing class, but in the future he plans to teach watercolor and other art styles. As a note, the class is held on the second floor and is a shared office space on other days. Its small but able to fit a class of 4. Overall, Jeff is a great and talented teacher. He interacts well with all ages. My daughter is 9 and she loves coming to class. If you have an artist, no matter what age, this is the class for them!

The 2.5 - 4 year old class at Aloha Cheer is a night and day difference. While more or less teaching many of the same tumbling and motor skills, the way they do it is 100x more engaging and fun for the kids. It's faster paced, there's more than enough room to run around, there's cute toddler-specific music playing in the background, the coaches are more hands-on and interactive with the kids, and even some of the older students pitch in and help out. They even manage to work in some basic alphabet and shapes learning during the class. Sure enough, when our daughter goes there she has a huge smile on her face the entire time.

It's bittersweet for us to say we are no longer with the team, but we leave with nothing but gratitude and love for everything this program has meant to us. From the coaches to the athletes and families, you're welcomed with so much aloha that before you know it, you're cheering for everybody's kids like they're your own! What I love most is the HEART behind this program. These coaches genuinely want their athletes to grow, succeed and become better both on and off the mat. And one thing that really stands out to me is the head coach..... she doesn't only cheer for her own 808cheer teams. You'll catch her rooting, clapping and cheering for OTHER Hawaiʻi gyms and their athletes too! In such a competitive sport, I absolutely LOVE seeing that kind of sportsmanship. At the end of the day, we may wear different uniforms, but these are all Hawaiʻi kids out there doing what they love! As 808 Cheer Sharks continues to grow, my prayer is that they never lose the things that make this gym so special.... the aloha, humility, good hearts and ohana mindset. And most importantly, that they never lose sight of WHO blessed them with this growing gym, program and opportunity to make a difference in these kids lives. Because skills can be taught, routines can be cleaned and apparently cheer moms can survive an entire competition season on caffeine, prayer, hairspray and rhinestones. But HEART? Our guide was great with children. First, she talked about the ranch and the horses and cows. Then she talked about the paniolo, what they wore and how they roped cows. Then we walked around and met all the animals. We started at the fishpond and all the kids got a cup full of fish food. She told us the Hawaiian names of the water fowl and we even watched a heron catch some fish! (Sorry; I forgot the Hawaiian name for heron!) Then we went on the longest and best part of the tour: petting all the animals. I'm not sure I can name them all but the highlights were a wild boar, a little brown cow, a llama, sheep, goats and a pig. In another section, there was an enclosed garden with smaller animals like rabbits and guinea pigs, tortoises and butterflies. They do birthday parties here and I would totally go for it if it weren't so far for my parents and family. But I highly recommend visiting here!

They also have Halau as far as Japan and Europe. If you want your children learn the Hawaiian culture,language and hula then this may be the Halau for you. Meet Leonani DeRego Lauaki, Kehaulani DeRego Kawai and Uncle Larry DeRego their father at the Ka Makani Ali'i Mall. The Halau is named after the matriarch of the Halau, Hokulani DeRego. I went in with prior knowledge but I left with an increase understanding of ACLS. The class was nice and comfortable. Our instructor Pua allowed us to learn at our own pace while being patient with the group. She was attentive and down to earth. Even got to learn about her roles and job in the medical field. We did lots of hands on work. We were able to ask questions throughout the course. We felt confident while learning. We also had some fun!
