Me and mom celebrated Mothers Day today! I chose the restaurant because I was there 2 years ago on my birthday in September! Before we ordered the Mother's Day special, I specifically asked the waitress if she would like her tip in cash and she said of course! The special was $95/person plus a 20% TIP ($38) which was $228! See photo below! We ordered some other items and the waitress gave me my bill for $252.86. We then drove 10 blocks to Chase to get out cash for her. I then noticed that I was charged $298.86. It was the $252.86 plus a TIP of $45.20! I immediately returned to discuss the discrepancies. The tip that was supposed to be $38 was now $45.20! The waitress then said she would credit my account. My question was how did this happen! All three waitresses stated it was not them and that the machine did this! How was this possible? Not one of them took responsibility for the discrepancies! Had I not looked at my bank statement then I would never have known that I would be tipping her twice! I then decided to leave to explain to my mom! Then the short Indian (I think) than sarcastically stated "Oh so now you're not going to tip us" Really! I drove 10 blocks and I NEVER ONCE STATED THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO TIP HER! I merely was going to let my mom know what happened and then TIP her! Note* I was going to give her a $100 cash TIP! Had she given me the REAL receipt with the $45 TIP then I would have given her $50 CASH but since she only produced the REAL receipt after I came back (how ironic) and told her she charged the wrong amount, she would have received $100 TIP. But since the short Indian waitress made that slick remark, she did not receive anything! After the disrespect and blaming the machine and giving me a fake receipt? I decided to leave! Ive been absolutely obsessed with finding the best oysters happy hour in town and downing so many dozens of oysters in the process... I wouldn't have done my neighborhood justice if I didn't pay this beautiful restaurant a visit. I walked in here on a cold and quaint Monday night after a really long and exhausting day at work for my favorite treat. I got situated at the bar and ordered two dozen oysters on the half shell. The oysters came our looking phenomenal with a presentation that made me want to dig right in. Everything about these oysters are perfection. They are fresh, shucked with care so they retain their brine, they are a good size and taste phenomenal. The accompaniments on the platter are amazing. Cocktail sauce with freshly grated horseradish, a cucumber hot sauce that adds both heat and texture, a fat, generous wedge of lemon cut with Max juiciness in mind. This is one of the best oyster happy hours in Brooklyn by a mile and I say this with absolutely no exaggeration! The interior of this restaurant is also so beautiful with soft dim lighting and a clean inviting aesthetic. It's perfect for a cozy date night, intimate dinner or just a casual dinner with a little bit of oomph. Prices on most items are very reasonable, but the happy hour menu between 5-7 PM is an absolute steal! I deeply enjoyed chatting with my bartender Diego who is part owner of the establishment and learning how they procure their catch and personally taste the oysters they serve. You can just tell how much thought and care him and his partner pour in to running a beautiful neighborhood restaurant like this. They have really good drinks here! I had a slightly dirty martini (was actually slightly dirty and smooth), a hibiscus margarita, the south slope gimlet, and the winter in Brooklyn ! All the drinks were great. We had some oysters from the oyster special. They were decently shucked, but a little bland. Fresh and very large but not much flavor. The mignonette was good. A great dinner at Siren BK! We ordered two dozen oysters and they were incredibly fresh and honestly some of the best I've had in Brooklyn. The prices for the oysters and the cocktails were surprisingly good, especially for the quality. We also tried the baby lamb chops, Caesar salad, goat cheese salad, braised beef, lobster roll, branzino, and Brussels sprouts. Everything came out well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. The branzino and lamb chops were standouts. Drinks were great too--Hugo Spritz, French 76, strawberry margaritas all balanced and not overly sweet. The food did not disappoint but I tried the 1/2 chicken and it was juicy and flavorful. It did take a bit of time for the dish to come out but my bartender was on top of things. The chicken did have a gravy which had poured on my chicken but I do know the chicken was juicy before hand. I have to say the space is opened and inviting but the staff really make the difference. We went to Siren for our anniversary after we discovered the restaurant we had originally chosen was closed. We were so glad we did! The goat cheese salad was excellent. Fresh and very tasty with the cherries and pecans. The Mushroom Marsala was rich and delicious and not overly creamy. The linguine and clams was cooked perfectly and flavored with garlic and herbs. The ginger crème brûlée was an excellent way to end the meal. We were pleasantly surprised when the waiter told us dessert was on the house because we were celebrating our anniversary. I came in late. But it wasn't good. The lobster bisque was an onion soup. I've never had crunchy veggies, onions and peppers in lobster bisque without lobster. The fries and the Brussels were great. The lobster and shrimp roll tasted like they burned it on the grill but it wasn't grilled. Like the gravy that burns at the bottom of the pot. I paid $136 dollars with tip for two shots, bisque, lobster roll, and Brussels sprouts. It was not worth it. Great ambience! Thank goodness for the kind bartender that got me food last minute. Not bad, but nothing unique or spectacular! Pricy. First, I think they are very overpriced for the neighborhood, type of food, and service they offer. The whole "package" did not match the prices. Second, we were the only table on Sunday evening; I hope that's only the case for that particular Sunday (and no, that was not a holiday). FOOD We came to this spot for oysters. The oysters were okay, but half of the oyster's menu was unavailable, and the ones we tried were very salty (but that's not the restaurant's fault). The oysters were overpriced for the neighborhood. If I remember correctly, the price per oyster starts at $3,75... That's Manhattan's rate, not Brooklyn's, or you need to be a spectacular place in BK for that rate, where you pay for the location, the view, or/and how popular the place is. I was disappointed with Hamachi. The price was way too high for what it was! At least, what I have seen in other places was much better. The octopus was well made and tasted delicious, and the squid ink humus was fantastic! We loved it. The lobster roll was okay, but again, nothing outstanding that could have a wow feeling. SERVICE There is not much service to value. The one hiccup we had was that the waitresses asked us if we were Russians (none of us are), which was disturbing, given the political situation. And it was early in the evening when we just got seated. I personally have no reservations about that, but some people at the table got a bit awkward. One other thing: the waitress was also a bartender, and she messed up tequila with Mezcal. Other than that, it was okay. However, I cannot properly value service here because there is not much to value or be objective about. AMBIENCE Lovely and pleasant! But it was empty! We were the only table on Sunday night. They have a beautiful bar setting, and for a glass of wine with oysters, you will surely enjoy your night. I found this place somewhat good, but I did not have a spectacular experience. I was excited to try this place, but unfortunately it was extremely underwhelming. They call themselves an oyster bar, but only had 1 type of oyster available and they were not very good. The pasta with clams was also a miss because it lacked flavor and the sauce was watery. We also got a very small side of shoe string fries for $12. They cancelled our Christmas Eve dinner, reserved weeks in advance, with no explanation, the morning of Christmas Eve! Left us scrambling to find an alternative when everything was long booked. Such a great new neighborhood gem! The host and staff were so welcoming and accommodating! And for a Friday night, we were able to sit without a reservation, but it was pretty packed! We started off with 12 oysters. They provide you with a list of oysters and pencil to mark which you would like. About 5 east coast and 4 west coast. For our meals, I ordered the lobster ravioli and my fiancé got the special which was a grilled tuna with lentils and cauliflower and a side of teriyaki sauce. Honestly they should add it to the menu because it was delicious!!! The sauce was good but it didn't even need it the tuna was grilled so well and perfectly medium rare. A nice spot for happy hour oysters but that's about it. The food was a little disappointing and the prices are not cheap. Came here for dinner with some girlfriends and it was pretty empty with one server. The AC was not working properly or maybe because we came when they just opened but it was sweltering inside. For happy hour oysters, it's 1.50 per but you have to order a minimum of a dozen. You get 1 option for happy hour. We had the petite and it was very fresh and sweet. The drinks seemed a bit weak. I had the French 75 and it was very light. Maybe because it's happy hour? They also have a 4-course pre-fixe menu for $65 but it's a table commitment. There were enough options for a table of 4 to pick different dish to try so we ended up doing the pre-fixe menu. Apps - Crabcakes, kale ceasar and octopus was good 2nd - mushroom tagliatelle, linguine clams (they ran out of lobster ravioli) The pasta was ok but pretty salty though. 3rd - Branzino, NY Strip, Mussels. Surprised that it was the steak that turned out to be the best one for the 3rd course. The branzino was ok but wish the skin was a bit more crispy instead of the soggy, rubbery version we got. The mussels were very fishy and we did not like it at all. That was the dish leftover. The steak was cooked medium rare (how we ordered it) and was season well and tender to the taste. Dessert - peach cobbler, bread pudding. - At this point we were all pretty full but the dessert was good. For a table of 4, our bill came out to be $100 per person. The service was very slow. The cocktail menu is literally the most delicious and creative, since pre-recession speakeasies of 2007. Every bite here is delicious, the staff are all kind and beautiful. We got the chefs selection of oysters - they picked 3 different kinds. Two were good but the third was the most fishy oyster I've ever had - I tasted it for the rest of the night. It overpowered everything, I was nervous I was going to be sick (I wasn't thankfully). The octopus was TINY! Plus it was also fishy, it tasted off (and I've had octopus so many times) - the hummus was good. The lobster ravioli was just okay - it was garnished with lobster in the middle that tasted old and frozen - it made me question if the ravioli were fresh. Came on a Sunday night, the space is dimly lit, there was such a nice and romantic ambiance to the place. We were greeted very warmly by both the host and our server. They have a menu of oysters you can check off to order from both from east and west coast. Minimum order of 6 oysters. Prices range from around $3-$5 an oyster. We ordered 6 oysters, do not remember which ones, but they all tasted pretty fresh. We then had a salad special, potato leek soup, crab cakes, clams casino, mushroom tagliatelle, and a grilled shrimp special. Really enjoyed the potato soup, it was creamy but not too heavy. Clams were stuffed well and had a rich bacon flavor. Mushroom tagliatelle had a strong mushroom flavor and loaded with mushrooms. Pasta cooked al dente. The grilled shrimp special was on top of a tomato purée sauce? Really elevated the flavors of the shrimp. Crab cake was on the saltier side for me but that might just be me because only I thought so. My absolute favorite dish surprisingly was the salad special of the night which had cauliflower and ricotta, it was refreshing and flavorful. Our server checked in on us and refilled our waters throughout the night very often. Dishes came out two at a time and paced well. We enjoyed our meal from beginning to end. I'm somewhat on the fence with posting this review. My experience was not quite as grand as the yelp* community. I grabbed a seat at the bar, and I ordered from the restaurant week menu. I began with the Octopus. The Octopus was tasty, but the black bean concoction didn't work. My second course was Linguine with Clams. The Pasta was overcooked, and the clams were a bit sandy. My third course was Mussels ala Marinara. The Mussels were good, but could have used a bit more spice. I finished with the Key Lime mousse. It was very tasty. Siren has a warm ambiance, exceptionally friendly service and a cool vibe. My co-worker and I loved the fact that their is a deep wine list with stalwart wineries. We ordered the freshest Kumumato oysters and misto plate for apps and then ordered branzino and a fresh pasta dish. We paired the Oysters with Pieropan Soave and the main courses with a Grenache blend by Orin swift called Abstract.
