This place is fantastic. The selection is not extensive, but it is really diverse. It is quite apparent that the owner puts a great deal of thought into the items she chooses to carry. The prices are seriously excellent (every time I go to Loopy I find myself thinking-Gee I could have gotten this much cheaper at Sister Arts)! Also, there is no snobbery to be found here! I was recently having trouble reading a pattern and Donna (the owner) sat down with me and helped me work through it. Also, Sister Arts has tons of neat-o classes and an open knit night (Thursdays). They also have wine/yarn tastings (I've never actually been to one of these, but they combine my two favorite things so it has to be good)! I really, really love this place! read more

Sister Arts Studio in Lincoln Park is my "go to" yarn shop with an extensive variety of gorgeous yarns. Having visited yarn shops in numerous states and several foreign countries, I have not found a more welcoming, friendly, helpful and nurturing atmosphere anywhere! The owner, Donna, is creative, exceptionally friendly, thoughtful, considerate and helpful. I've recently started attending Knit Night (Thursdays) more regularly and enjoy the group of women, who range in age from 20-somethings to 70-somethings, more and more each time. Stopped in for the first time last week and I really like this yarn store. The owner was very friendly and helpful. While the yarn selection is a bit limited, all the yarns are beautiful. They also carry more art supplies than your average yarn store. Plus they have every size of the Clover pom-pom makers--which got me very excited. I will definitely return! read more

I signed up for another class at Sister-Arts and went in yesterday to learn how to knit in the round (with some 'how to knit cable' tutorial thrown in for good measure). Donna taught the class and it was another fantastic experience. She just makes me feel so confident in my knitting even though I definitely still consider myself a newbie. First time visitor This was my first time visiting Sister Arts and I have mixed reviews regarding the store. I always try to find these types of places when visiting from out of town. It is a nice quaint little store with lots of yarn to choose from and many children kits. I was also expecting kits for socks, scarves, etc since this is something they advertised on their website. The thing I found disappointing is the person working in the store didn't seem to know very much about what they had. I asked about loose patterns for socks I was specific at not wanting a book and the person told me they didn't have any. Yet when I started looking through some of the note books with the loose patterns I found a notebook which contain patterns for footwear and I found two good patterns I liked. Then there was a sample of a sock made up and I asked was that a specific sock pattern or was it out of a book and the person couldn't find anything about the sock if it was a loose pattern, out of a book or anything. One of the other sales clerk did try to find it for me but had no luck. I then tried to purchase a loose pattern for a scarf which was labeled but the sales clerk kept referring me to Raverly (which I do belong to) to buy it because she said she couldn't purchase it and print it out for me. It wasn't allowing her to purchase it. This was a real shame because a lot of the premade items were labeled with the patterns but I gave up trying to purchase them in the store since the clerk seemed not to be very knowledgable regarding things in the store and I was becoming too frustrated with "I know it's on Raverly". All in all I I can only give a 3 star review. I frequent Chicago at least twice a year, but I don't know if I would ever go back. read more

I really love Sister-Arts Studio. I've tried a few different yarn stores in Chicago and this one is by far my favorite. The owner is super nice and helpful. Some stores I have been in do not like you to bring your kids with you. I ran in here a few weeks ago, with my kids, to grab a few skeins. The owner was super friendly to my girls, and took time away from a class she was teaching to chat with them, and talk to them about their school/classes. The yarn selection is diverse. I found this store while searching for an authorized Schacht dealer. I called and Donna was helpful and friendly. I went to the location and instantly began to plot how I was going to use up some of my yarn stash so I could come back and buy some of the scrumptious yarn they have. I was able to purchase my item as well as have a wonderful and informative conversation. I am hoping that I'll have completed a few projects by the time the item I am waiting for is back in stock so I can justify buying some more yarn. Sister Arts just hosted our daughter's 6th birthday party and it was absolutely wonderful! Donna is so easy to work with and so patient and calm! Jocelyn assisted with the party and was great with the kids (as was Donna) and really helpful in general. The kids had a fantastic time with their craft -- stuffing teddy bears and decorating their bears' hoodies. And it was a very reasonably priced affair, especially given what kid parties can run. I can't say enough about the experience. The store is amazing as well, so now we have a few arts and crafts kits at home and probably will check out some of the parent/child classes. read more

I first came to this store at the invitation of a woman I met on the red line. We started to talk knitting on the train, and she suggested I join them for a thursday night knitting group. Since I am blind and had learned to knit before, I decided to give it a try. Donna, the owner, is exceedingly supportive and patient. She has such a gift with teaching people. I brought my niece to her when she was visiting and they had sucha great time. My niece has ADD and is often frustrated in particular learning situations. We all had a great time thanks to Donna. She continues to help me in my knitting projects, and I want to support her. read more

I hosted my 8-year-old daughter's birthday party this past weekend at Sister Arts Studio and cannot say enough good things about our experience. Donna was enthusiastic and so easy to work with! The shop is quaint and warm. My daughter and 9 of her best little girlfriends worked for an hour and a half making 2-3 bracelets each utilizing a package of large crystals and small crystals that they each chose. The jewelry came out great (I made some for myself as well) and the price per person was extremely reasonable. Donna was helpful without hovering. We topped it off with a cake that we brought and then sent all the girls home with their jewels. Several of the girls commented that this was the best birthday party ever, and it was fun for me too. I also ended up picking up a few gifts for my daughter while I was there because they have a great selection of craft kits for kids. I highly recommend Sister Arts Studio for a small birthday party for girls age 6 or over. Thank you Donna! read more
