BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE!!! We moved our web and email hosting to SiteGround in December. We did this only after Media Temple our current provider began to become overrun with spam. So, on the advice of my web programmer, we moved to SiteGround. We weren't with SiteGround even 30 days when all of a sudden our email began bouncing back to our clients. We began receiving calls asking if we went out of business? I was so shocked to learn our email was bouncing back. Upon calling SiteGround, they said we maxed out our email space and I should delete email. WHAT??? Then they told me for a fee I could move to the next teir and my problems would go away. Well, I had no choice I needed email. So, upon paying the increased fee it took two more calls and a few hours later before they started allowing our emails to flow through again. Then since then (January 2015), your email would suddenly not send out or receive. It would then require a phone call to their support team which is like rolling the dice. One time you may get someone who is friendly but just throws out an excuse (which is never the cause) or you get someone who literally 100% doesn't care that you are experiencing an issue which may be adversely affecting your business. You could spend hours on the phone with them at times and get nowhere. This has happened over and over and over. Emails on your phone and/or lap top will randomly disappear. 100% gone. They can't or don't want to explain. It happens to often for it to be random or isolated. Every issue surround why randomly your email would not send or receive, outside of wrong guesses, they simply can't give you an answer. Recently, we had no choice but to move hosting companies. I can't afford to continue with a company who gladly takes your money, cuts off your email just to increase your rates. This by the way has happened three times since December 2014. I can't afford to have my team members not be able to receive emails for whatever inept reason SiteGround wants to throw out and see if it sticks. After 6.5 months of pure hell, we are switching to Rackspace.com. We spent Friday working with a Migration Specialist at Rackspace. We changed the name servers/MX records on my SiteGround CPanel. Then about an hour after this, no more email. It was all being rejected. This is my third time changing email hosting companies. When we change the records we have never been without email. However, leave it to SiteGround. When I called on Friday evening, Ibal said well when you move away from us this is what happens. Then when I explained he was shutting my business down, he responded with "no, you moved your email". Again, no care. Then I guess max it could take for the MX records to propagate to the internet is 48 hours. Most companies can do it within 24. Not SiteGround; 48 hours later we are still not propagated to the internet. So, Rackspace and I worked today to start making calls. Now Yosef at SiteGround says it can take 72 hours though the SiteGround website itself says 48. Numerous calls and support tickets...................nothing. We are now having to take alternate actions to move our nameservers and MX records.. My advice.............RUN. RUN. RUN. I can't imagine any company doing business is as unethical, inept and incompetent as this one. If you opt to sign with them, beware you will have problems. read more

Do not let them use your credit card without authorizing it with you! I'm very unhappy with their business practices and treatment of current customers. I signed up for a $179 a year hosting service. The first year they charged my card $179 as agreed. The next year they renewed my account but charged my card $199. The next year they figured what the heck and charged my card for over $275 even though their package was currently selling for less than a $100. Although SiteGround does have the fastest load times for a WordPress website, their technical support is.... just miserable. I'm a web developer, the issues we are having with SiteGround are simple and have never been an issue with any of the other ISPs we have been using since 1996. They have been problems around configurations of the site, email and SSL certificates. Their tutorials are incomplete, out of date and irrelevant in most cases. Every time we have had an issue, it has taken literally days to get answers. The staff do not read plainly written questions and come back with non-applicable or off-topic solutions. Then, worse, when you go back to your open ticket you have a DIFFERENT tech agent who has also NOT read the thread. The current problem has had eight different support reps and not one of them either read or understands the issue nor do they give helpful answers. This has become so frustrating we are considering leaving and telling the 12 clients that we were going to migrate to SiteGround that they are... ineffective and incompetent at support. read more

Terrible customer service, called back and it's the same Bulgarian office and ended up talking to the next desk of the rude representative I was talking to. As for the hosting itself, I have only had 2 small moments of my website being down (in the past 3 weeks). Me too! I have 12 WP websites but I'm definitely not a hosting pro and have been with the same host for 10 years. I actually work offline and my sites are a side project ;-). I looked at the options and chose SiteGround based on the reviews on the hosting comparison sites and having spoken to SG live chat for pre-sales advice. BAD ADVICE & BAD MOVE! Within 30 minutes of paying, I established the hosting wasn't suitable and I wanted out. So long-story-short, 11 days today since my refund request was made and actioned (so says my SG account) and approximately 7-8 live chats, a phone call and 3 calls to my bank. I've established there is an error with the refund and it needs to be made again. Brilliant! So I've raised a chargeback with my bank. Believe me when I say I've encountered poor service on and offline over the years. This is right up there for frustration. It was a simple refund request! Not anymore. Now there is basically no way to contact them. They have not just burried that chat support, but I honestly cannot get to the chat without several forms. I have a question about transferring a site, but I have to actually purchase that package and fill out a form before being forwarded. Who is the idiot who thought this would be a good idea? This site has started using a scanning system that finds malicious code where there's none! These asses have taken down my website 4 times in the past 6 months, arguing with me for hours about problems that don't exist, and finally putting it back up! As mentioned by another reviewer, their email setup is trash and their tech support is easy to reach but will tell you they fix the problem when they don't. I transferred from BlueHost because I was having trouble with my website frequently going down. SiteGround had really good reviews from a number of sites, and I would have said they were great... if I didn't keep getting contacted about clients not receiving emails or emails being rejected by spam. I spent six times with tech support and was always given some vague answer why this was happening. I bumped down my spam controls to nothing and sometimes I couldn't send email because SiteGround's spam protection stopped them. Personal emails, business emails, short emails, and long emails all the like were both rejected as spam, and just not delivered without any notice or warning. I sent copies that were bounced back, and I sent emails that were never delivered. They agreed there was nothing that should get them rejected or bounced for any reason. After my fifth time with tech support (who fixed it by changing a setting, oh boy!) I demanded it be elevated to the next level of tech support. They agreed. Next level of tech support just said all these emails are falling within their spam protection, and said I could pay nearly 10x the amount I pay per month to upgrade OUT of their awful spam protection. I never had this issue with BlueHost, and immediately switched my hosting. If you are trying to run a business that needs email, use anything but SiteGround. Their web hosting was great and their prices were competitive, but it isn't worth angry clients and losing out on business. read more

I'm not exactly sure why the reviews are so low for Siteground - I have used many, many, MANY horrible web hosts in the past. Siteground is the first and only host that I have actually LOVED. First off, the techs are helpful and, with the exception of just one that I've worked with, have been knowledgeable and very patient with me. I have a LOT of questions when I contact them and I've never felt rushed or pressured. Currently I've just upgraded to SSL and cloudflare plus and the speed is absolutely SICK - just amazing! Deceptive billing practices. SiteGround makes you call in every month if you have monthly billing. If you don't CALL them, they will automatically bill you for a year. This is designed to make you forget one month so that you're automatically charged. It is unlike literally every other service provider in the world. When you turn off "automatic renewal" it is automatically turned on the next time you're billed. Also don't be fooled by their introductory rate. The real rates are much higher and hidden. read more

I love the site for its speed. If you don't need any help or having any questions - these guys are great. So I convinced someone to move their website to SiteGround. WELL...here we are. The links do NOT work in the admin section with the exception of the tutorials. I don't want tutorials, I want to set the site up. The links to do this just do not work & when they do, they bring me right back to where I started. When I signed on with them for another website a couple of years ago, I still had to hunt, but eventually, I found help. Now - NOTHING. There's a link in the admin section to set up a new website with some kind of wizard. I think the magic is a dud - because this link doesn't work. You go to where you get customer service, it asks you to log in and voila, back to where you started. I don't do merry-go-rounds very well. I currently have 11 separate browsers set up trying to find a way to contact someone - anyone. Now I am wondering if I did the right thing by recommending to someone to transfer the website here. How do you explain to someone that you can't find help, can't get help, can't reach anyone, there' s no phone number, no email, no supposed "live chat" and none of the links work in the admin portals? What kind of business is this? If I figure it out, I'll blast a phone number, email so everyone else having this issue can have a solution. They don't help and will disconnect the call if it is too difficult for them to comprehend. English is terrible you can barely make out what the representatives are saying. I have been trying multiple time throughout the day to get support. All I am trying to do is get my page up and running. With this service is impossible. My phone help time to speak with a customer service rep started out as a 20 minute wait. As it slowly trickled down to one minute, instead of my call being answered, the time clock began increasing. BEWARE. They take your money and then it's tech support hell. Cannot find the number on their site, they bury it so you can never find it. For the record it's 1888 605 2484. Okay, our email never worked, and when it did, it did so sporadically, and they blamed everything on Apple Mail for the fail. They were rude, apathetic, spoke down to us, and once they've got your money and you try to cancel they basically say, 'Sorry, you had the first 30 days to cancel, but there are no refunds now.' We had the Grow Big Account. All the problems start after the first 30 days. I don't know what's the deal with the 'Alexandria' VA office, they are all in Bulgaria: a bunch of rude and pretentious tech bros who can't solve basic tech issues. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever had with a hosting company. Do not hand over your money, you'll never get it back. I am also filing a claim with the BBB and Ripoff Report. BUYER BEWARE- - This company is operated from Eastern Europe with a front address in Virginia. That address does not exist. I know because I tried to visit the office when they kept charging be a year ago. So I was charged $47.40 for hosting for one year. I copied the terms and conditions and there was nothing that suggested that I would be billed more than that. Since then, I see a renewal that is $159, three times the amount I once paid. I removed my card from the account and some way they kept my information and charged my card. When I contacted them they threatened me and suggested that if I dispute the charges they will delete the information for my website. They are a bunch of crooks if you ask me. They say that every website has 100% uptime and I know that is not accurate because my website was down on three separate occasions. If you are interested, we can file a class action lawsuit easily. After we proceed with the account details the server admin tells me that we need to pay £300 for migration service because we have multiple accounts, they didn't tell me that while I was talking about moving to them. I've been team Siteground for a while now, and have previously recommended them to many, many others, but I have the highest shared hosting plan they offer and all my sites have gone down 3 times in the last month! At least 3 times that I know of, meaning times I went to one of my sites myself and noticed it was down and contacted support. Two of those times they said it was the server down and they were already working on getting it back up. Which means there are times it likely goes down that they fix it before I notice. After having gone through so many web hosts in the past, I think I'm at the point of being ready to pay WPEngine kind of prices for my hosting. It's almost 10x as much, but ultimately it is the engine of my business I'm talking about. I'm not saying everyone necessarily has to pay as much for hosting, but just want to note that our ideas about how much reliable hosting costs may need to change. As every business tries to squeeze more profit out without raising prices above their competitors, quality keeps going down. They are clearly saving money by not replacing a server that obviously needs to be replaced. Maybe they are getting ready to be acquired, so trying to make the quarterly P&L look more attractive to buyers. All I know is, used to be great, now is utterly unreliable. If I could cancel and switch now and get a refund of 7 months I still have paid, I would. As it is I'm just waiting for them either to switch me to a more reliable server (something they seem reluctant to do, for inexplicable reasons) or me to be so fed up I'll just eat the lost cash. It is worth noting that while other hosting companies refund unused months' payments at any time, this company only refunds anything in the first 30 days. About two years ago, SiteGround had a really great support. But last month it became a disaster. I do a lot of development work on my site, and I contacted their support three times in a month. They banned me for contacting them too often. I use their Cloud service, and they advertise on the website a priority technical support: "Available 24/7, Always there to help", "Amazingly Fast, Quick pickup & resolution" - that's all a lie. In reality, for critical issues (site is opening up by PHP not working) you have to wait for hours. Typical response is "the problem is on your side", and you have to prove to them it is not. Several different people respond to one ticket, and go to great length to tell me that the problem is always with my software/applications. This is not helpful at all. Summary: if you have a small personal website, I would agree with others it's probably one of the best shared hostings. For a business use, look for a hosting that does what they promise. read more

I have been using Siteground for half years and received the message twice from Siteground that my site contains malware and my domain will be deleting after 7 days if the malware not deleted. They also claim that if i upgrade for their paid version of Scanning and they are going to remove the malware. ITS A TRAP. Siteground Hosting is a Trap! It wastes you time and money! They will upsell you their service by saying you have malware in your site, if you dont buy, they will remove your site. I will appeal for the chargeback !! This hosting service indeed used to be a so-called 'gold standard' for high-quality service but has now turned into a standard of the opposite kind. Their customer serviced deteriorated to the unbelievable degree and is now flooded with incompetent representatives and complete lack of anything that could be called good management. They have deleted one of my sites by accident and not even close to ten open tickets and escalations were enough to solve the mess their inexperienced representatives made of my websites. In the end, I was forced to redirect my two domains to external platforms as the only possible solution while they still haven't done anything to solve the issue - this despite the fact that they claim to have top-notch 24/7 support. The hosting is pretty consistent for most users, and the customer service is also good. So why the low rating? SiteGround's email system is horrible. They have anti-spam measures in place to prevent abuse, but all they do is block regular messages. There is no way to turn it off. On top of that, their pricing is deceptive. Please do not use them. Look at the chat transcript. We are a magazine and wanted to share our experience and transparency to substantiate our allegations. The hosting is great. The support is pretty good compared to others. They are simply not good people and customer service guided. 1. We have had this service for two years. There are hidden fees and costs. When I logged in to the account it said "Expiring Services and said I needed to pay $59.95" and to add a credit card. When I added the credit card, they 59.95 went away so I connected to chat. 2. They are extortionists. They denied me access to my files after they confirmed there was a backup. Told me that the current sale is not applicable to me although I WOULD have been paying for new service. The representative said that if I did not pay I would not have access to the files which is our intellectual property 3. Upon paying the hosting renewal of 143.50 for one year, I had to pay an additional reinstatement fee 4. After receiving the files, if I were to move them to a different host, I would not receive a refund from siteground 4. Essentially, as you will see in the transcript, we would pay 143.40 to get our files and if we did not pay, there was no guarantee that they would keep the files suggesting that if I did not pay immediately, they would delete the files. In addition to the 143.50 there was an additional $39.95 added on 5. They said they issued a refund that was not received by the credit card company. 6. When I ASKED to speak with a supervisor, the rep said that no one was available although I was signed in with a different account and the option was available. . The escalate to a supervisor link was missing after I signed in to this account after I asked all of the questions in the chat attached. 7. After I logged out of the chat and pressed send a copy of the transcript to my email, the email never arrived. 8. I recorded my screen just in case so HAH! I would not use them because they are shady and bill you at least 15 days in Advance of the due date. There are hundreds of negative reviews but since they are a foreign company, they poop on us here in states. The office in Alexandria, VA is not an actual office so you cannot serve them with a lawsuit. read more
