Sitka City and Borough are situated between mountains and the sea in Southeast Alaska. The region is shaped by its Tlingit and Russian heritage. It includes a rich array of landmarks, natural features, and cultural sites. When we got off the ship, we were delighted to see a golf cart that would take us into the terminal as it was a long walk. This is a new terminal with lots of shopping. We took the time to stop and take a picture of the carved Bald Eagle that welcomes visitors to Sitka. We were able to take advantage of the free shuttle bus into downtown to the Harrigan Centennial Hall. It was a very pleasant scenic ride with a great commentary by the driver. read more

The Sitka Cruise terminal & Sitka itself is a city in Alaska, located on Baranof Island. It's known for its Tlingit, Russian, and American history, incredible scenery, and access to the Pacific Ocean. Once the capital of Russian America, it's now a popular cruise ship destination and it's terminal has outstanding service & selection of tourist shops with reasonable prices. This was our very first port of call in Alaska. It will always be memorable to us mainly for all the Bald Eagle sightings we witnessed that day. Most of them were right there looking for fish around the ship. We were totally fascinated with these beautiful & majestic creatures. The cruise terminal itself was very well-organized. The staff were all very helpful directing us to tour meeting points or downtown shuttle buses. There is a free shuttle service that takes you to Harrigan Centennial Hall. Otherwise, it's a 6 mile walk to town. Make sure that you book your shuttle ticket on their website in advance. We boarded our shuttle immediately since we picked the earliest queue time available. I don't know what the wait time was for people who didn't have a reserved time slot. I believe they only enforced this timed entry in the morning during the peak time period. We didn't have to show proof of a return time at 2 pm that day. The shuttles run every 15 minutes. It all ran like clockwork. On our way back, we saw lots of food trucks parked near the ship. There were many people buying last minute souvenirs & snacks in the terminal. We had a relaxing & carefree day learning about this historic city that was once the state capital of Alaska. I'm so glad that we didn't schedule a shore excursion here. I feel like we learned more by exploring it all on our own. read more

I typically prefer a cruise terminal only a short walk to the primary tourist area. However the free shuttle to and from the terminal worked very well with little to no wait. The ability to schedule a timeframe leaving the ship in advance was very beneficial as we did see a large number of people waiting immediately after the gangway opened. A food truck selling Fry Bread on the wharf area was an added bonus. There were also shops right at the terminal but didn't check those out. A family member looked at the menu for the restaurant at the terminal and decided it was much more expensive than those in town. read more

What a beautiful day! This is a very small port. There is easy access to the buses to gat will take you into town. If you are lucky enough to have a room on the same side as my balcony, you have a great chance of seeing marine life. The service from the ship to the town is very friendly. read more

Nice terminal. Some shops right as you get off of the ships, but they also provide a free shuttle into town and back from town out to the port, which is a really nice plus. It seems as if the stuff at the terminal is a little more expensive, but it is very convenient. There are also a number of places to eat there food truck like places as well as a restaurant or two right there at the terminal if you don't wanna go into town. read more

Lots of nice shops. Very organized and easy to navigate. Had some great fry bread. I had the bread nuggets with beer cheese, excellent. My kids split an apple scone and they loved it. read more
