Now, Topeka is a solid hour away for us and I wasn't sure what to expect. To be honest I was kind of shocked that the tour stopped in Topeka rather than KC since I think they would have filled up better in KC. All that aside we made the drive no problem and something nice about it being in Topeka is that parking is a BREEZE here. Stormont Vail Events Center boasts a massive parking lot, which is something I'm just not used to seeing at big events centers in cities. Compared to the Sprint Center here in KC where parking is a competitive sport, I literally just drove in and parked super close to the entrance and we walked right in. That was pretty great - definitely earned a whole star for that alone. Once you get inside it's very similar to any other large-ish event space. You get in line to have your ticket scanned and then you find your seats. My big beef with this whole event, and why to me it was 4/5 stars was the way they had merch stands set up. The first one was right when you got to the top of the escalator which caused a bottleneck and the line was pretty massive. We had paid for a merchandise voucher to save some money, so I wanted to let my daughter choose her toy before the show started, but the line was so long I figured there must be another one and we moved on to use the restroom and then use the merch spot on the floor, near our seats. We got in line at the merch table downstairs and after waiting more than 10 minutes someone shouted out that you can't use a voucher at this one and you have to go upstairs. Now, have you ever had to explain to a four year old that you have to leave the line you are almost to the front of to go upstairs and get in a longer line that you already had waited in? No, well you're lucky. That was a nightmare. We did it though, got what she wanted, and she did handle it like a champ once we got over the initial shock. Aside from that the production was good, the ease of restroom lines and getting in and out of the venue was a breeze, and overall it was a decent experience. I do hope they consider fixing this issue though, even if just with signage so you don't wait in a line you can't use.

This was not a good roller skating experience, and I've been to a lot of different rinks. 8? 10?…read more This was the lawless rink. I've never been to a rink where they didn't have one or more staff members skating on the rink to ensure safety and enforce rules. They didn't have any staff members anywhere near the rink. And they needed them! I hope they have good insurance! (though they had us sign a waiver before entering, which is the only time I've experienced that at a rink.) It wasn't crowded on the Sunday afternoon that we went, but it was really hard to skate. One kid going the wrong way around the rink, kids and *adults* cutting across the rink instead of going in an oval. One young teen stealing the skate assist device from his younger siblings and then zig-zagging across the rink while they tried to chase him to get it back. One guy doing his dance moves across the path of traffic - dude, go in the middle or a corner! One man standing in the path of traffic doing things on his phone. And then the usual of kids cutting across. The rink also doesn't have a wall around it, which means at any moment someone might decide to cut across as they enter or exit the rink. I'm a good skater, but multiple times I had to skate off of the rink to avoid crashing into someone behaving badly. It made it so not fun. And when people fell down, there was no staff to check they were ok or help them up like at other rinks. I would have given it one star, because I really just didn't want to stay (and I often stay for multiple hours at rinks), but there were some good things. The floor was good, and the price wasn't bad. There were plenty of places to sit. Music was decent though loud. There was a separate little rink for beginner skaters. We were there for the second half of an afternoon session and there were no games or couples skate or anything, and I didn't see any way to request your favorite song. I had to try 3 times to get a decent rental skate (first time they gave me the wrong size, second time one skate had a wheel loose), and the laces were messed up still. There are rinks that are more fun.

I love it when an ice rink is packed, but the killer part was the lack of using the zamboni. I know times are very short (1pm - 3pm that day) but the ice was too rough to skate on at certain points. It would be nice if they did 1pm to 3:30pm or 4:00pm so the ice could be resurfaced mid-way. Other than that small detail, there are plenty of training "wheels" if you are new to skating (mainly for kids). Good exercise and they play great music!
