Good time, nice sized rink... a few issues though. Don't go Wednesday (cheapskate) for the 5-9pm$10 deal. Rink gets way too crowded with little kids who cannot skate, those pushing those PVC pipe rigs and still fall down and a few that feel the need to skate as fast as they can, zigzagging in and out of traffic between other skaters and colliding with others. The skate refs do absolutely nothing but skate around and talk to their friends. Witnessed this crap this evening (03/26/25)..the skate ref or whatever they are called did nothing about it. Left after an hour because someone is going to get seriously hurt sooner rather than later. If you go, don't go when they are busy. They need to limit the number of skaters on the rink. When having to change your shoes or skates, there's usually no place to sit down and do so during these busy times. Had to sit on the ground and do it. Ridiculous. read more

The workers children that work there are very, very respectful. They help out actually a lot in the workers. They are also very, very nice and respectful, except for in the food court there was this lady who was threatening to throw food away. If you didn't leave it in there she said we had 15 minutes. We came back two minutes later and she was about to throw it away. And we were like what do you want us to do chugging entire water and she said there's signs everywhere but she told us we had 15 minutes. read more

Cool place to skate with friends and family. Great vibes and love the black light glow. Good price and thankful for so many hours to go and can bring kids. The "referee" on the floor can skate like nobody's business and stays on top of safety. Love that! They have these walker looking things on wheels for beginner skaters. Very kid friendly. Even adult first timers can get going here! Only complaints are the one speaker on the right, by the DJ booth, blares your ear drum (not a great sound) and the videos played for the music is a bit much at times for little kids. (We don't show our son sexual content) I'd also like to say that the girl collecting money could be a bit happier, but I guess customer service just isn't what it used to be. Hoping to win the lotto and open my own rink Change the game completely. Anyway, floor is tight and right. One spot needs repaired. Not too bad though. Gotta take skates off to go to the bathroom. Not a fan of that either. Wish they'd play some old school skate music more often. All in all, best place for someone to go in the area. Not many places open anymore. It's wonderful having a n indoor sk8 rink to enjoy! I haven't skated in years, let's just say, it's not like ridding a bike... hahah! However I switched skates multiple times, to larger sizes smaller sizes, then to inline skates & needing to switch sizes multiple times again. The people working there at that time were patient with me and they didn't even fuss about having to switch skates so many times. Because of the staff I would highly recommend this place for family nights, date nights, or solo adventurous nights. read more

My best friend and I went here for a fun euphoria themed friend date and we were sexualized and felt uncomfortable. We wore cute crop tops and jeans and they told us to zip our jackets up because we were "distracting" Im pretty sure your guests are more concentrated on skating and having their own fun then our chests. This experience ruined our night and we will not be bringing our beautiful faces to this place ever again. read more

SK8 World Is Awesome! I had planned to spend my Friday night watching a few episodes of True Detective while enjoying the last of my stash of small batch Guatemalan coffee, but alas, it was not to be. I was pulling into the parking lot of the Applebees's in Munster, Indiana when my wife asked me if I wanted to check out a new skating rink in Portage, Indiana. I didn't! In an attempt to sweeten the pot, she told me that SK8 World's Facebook page was boasting that Tim "Spinnin" Shommer would be onsight to perform, as it was opening night. This accomplished nothing because I had no idea who Tim "Spinnin" Shommer was. Listen, it's not an indictment on Tim or his talent but instead, a glowing example of how out of touch I am with the rolling ring industry "D.J. Elite." So back at Applebee's in Munster, I'm trying to satisfy my hunger with a protein-rich, carb conscious, 8oz sirloin smothered in parmesan and decorated with a fistful of shrimp. It also came with a cup of garlic mash and more than generous serving of steamed broccoli. The garlic mash was on point (5 stars) but the broccoli would only act as to color my otherwise sepia-toned meal. My wife was across the table being silent, allowing my six-year-old daughter to do all the convincing. She knew what she was doing. In fact, they both know their respective roles, both independent and collective. My wife planted a seed in our daughter's brain when she initially presented the idea, and it was now in full bloom. They both had SK8 World in their sights and knew exactly what they needed to do to get there. My wife, with her "I guess we can just sit at home and rot, again" attitude and my daughter presenting the puppy dogs eyes she's obviously perfected. An hour later, I'm 20 miles east of Applebee's, east of my coffee, and east of season one of True Detective. I'm standing in a long line outside of SK8 World, waiting impatiently for this experience to both begin and end. I'll admit it, I was dug in. I was not gonna have fun if it killed me. While I saulked, an employee who exited the building inviting anyone in possession of their own shoes (He's talking about skates) to cut to the front of the line, so they could pay their admission to roll. He did this every five minutes or so. We had only had our tennis shoes so we weren't going anywhere fast. Us line waiters were also being told that SK8 World had run out of skates and that we could pay to get in but might not have the opportunity to skate. We would have to wait until someone who had rented skates in ou desired size had their fill for the night if we wanted to have a go. Luckily, we were able to procure a tiny pair for our daughter and one for the wife, as soon as we got inside. They were happy, which made me happy. I was also happy, happy to be left alone to hold their coats and shoes and have absolutely zero fun. But eventually, something changed, After watching my wife and daughter go around a time or two, I couldn't deny that I longed for my chance. I couldn't tell my wife I wanted to skate, I had my pride. I had committed to my anger and I didn't want to let it go. Then I devised the perfect plan. It was totally obvious that my wife was not a graceful skater and that she was having difficulty maneuvering around the floor with our daughter. So after they struggled for a couple of laps I proposed to my wife that she take a break and that I escort my daughter around the rink a few times. She didn't agree or brag that "she told me so," she just grabbed me some skates. Truth be told she just wanted to get me into some skates so she and I could skate together. She's smarter than me, what can I say. The minute my skates hit the floor I was transported back to 1987. The music, the lights, and ambiance. Tim Shommer was on his game. It was like he had been cryogenically frozen in time, only to have been thawed out for this event. Every song choice perfect, ever light transition, precision. I did shuffle around the rink a few times with my little girl, but that's not where the magic happened. It was when I flew solo. I raced, I spun, I twisted, and I twirled. I skated backward like most people dream of skating forward. I soared like an eagle. My wife also got her couples skate. Everybody won. The price was right, the bathrooms were clean, and it had a great family-friendly atmosphere. I just want to know which night is 80's punk rock night. I, well I mean WE, will definitely be back. Took my kids here last night and really have no desire to return. Saw an advertisement on their website for the date we were choosing to go and was excited for the price. Get to the establishment, charged way more than what we should have been and asked the lady working the window why and show her their ad on THEIR website. She rudely told us that it wasn't true. Whatever they were doing today was on the front door. It's advertised on YOUR website. How many people do you think look online and see this ad and come because of it and how many do you think just drive by and read the door? Especially when we don't even live close by. Told her that was false advertisement and she claimed it's not. Well when you advertisement something then say "oh that's not true" (aka FALSE) that is false advertisement and incredibly bad business. She was very rude and refused to honor their advertised price. Also overcharged us due to her lack of attention when we checked in and made us stand at the counter for almost 15 mins before we received our refund. She was short and practically threw the money at my husband and even dropped some of it on the floor. Then on top of that we spent more than 30 mins messing around with the lockers. I had to transfer a backpack and coats/shoes for 4 kids and 3 adults four separate times because every single locker we tried was broken and eating quarters. This place was not worth the hassle and definitely won't be returning. There are better places to take my kids for some family time and that are a lot nicer to their customers. read more

Bad service. If you say you close at 10, close at 10. If you would've told me that you were closing earlier, then I wouldn't have paid. The arcade section should have been open until ten as well. People without uniforms told me that I have to stay away from that section. If they don't want my money, then they won't get it again. read more

Customer service regarding negative reviews is unprofessional. I received private messages from an individual stating that I was wrong and blaming me for not having facts to back my review. the management sucks, they have the floor capacity to 25 but the main floor doesn't have a limit. skating with masks is extremely dangerous because it messes up your respiratory system. i could understand wearing them walking in and in the snack bar but skating? read more
