Went to urgent care first, they sent us to ER. Waiting room was empty, but quickly filled up after we were there for awhile. My family has always had excellent care here, as have I, and also in the surgical center across the street. Its too bad people can't realize that they aren't the only ones in there, there aren't enough Dr's to go around for everyone all at once, and your probably not the worst off patient in there. These folks are busy, looking after many people, and acting like your the only one there that matters doesn't help anyone. Unless you would likely bleed out before you got to another hospital, don't venture any where near this so-called "care" facility. My wife was having trouble breathing yesterday morning, so we called 911. Living on Camano, the ambulance took her to this place's emergency room. I followed and found that the ambulance had dumped her there and she was sitting in the waiting room. I challenged the desk staff that she should be laying in a bed by then getting IV antibiotics. They just sort of smirked at me! When she was finally taken in to their so-called care area, we found that she was not going to get care, but forced to sit in a hallway with other sick people for hours. Then followed a lot of tests, many unnecessary. When we questioned when a doctor would come and examine her, we were told it would be soon. When more time passed, and still no care, we told the nursing staff we were ready to go and find another hospital. We were then fed a series of lies, including one outrageous one that the nurse had looked at the blood results and there were problems and my wife would need to be admitted. This of course was not true. After 5 hours sitting in the hallway, the doctor deigned to come by to tell us what he thought ( not from examining her of course, but merely from test results). He certainly said she did not need to be admitted and we could go. This place should be audited by some hospital agency. It is obvious they are ill equipped to handle the cases that come in. But it also appears they herd people around, make them wait and get tested in unsanitary conditions, and order unnecessary tests so they can bill it to insurance companies. And when you question the way you are treated, you are met with lies and threats (like oh, if you don't like it, we could move you back into the waiting area). I was totally amazed and disturbed by what I witnessed there. Something should be done... people who are sick and need care should not be treated this way! read more

I am very experienced in being in the hospital. This was by far the best hospital experience I have ever had even with the intense pain of a kidney stone. I was treated with such dignity and care. The emergency room was packed, and I was in a temporary room, and they still made made me feel seen, heard, and valued. I was eventually moved and taken into surgery to have a stent put in. My doctors were outstanding, my nurses incredible. In recovery I received the same care. I honestly felt like they treated me like a family member. I hope not to visit again! But they sure did a good job when I was here! read more

Nurses who prepped me, attended me during and after procedure were positive, skilled, caring, competent. Anasthesiologist answered my concerns, was reassuring, and clearly was sharp and competent. Dr Dy reassured me, letting me know he used a smaller 'pediatric' probe for colonoscoies and that he had done thousands of them successfully. Trouble areas: Floor in bathroomin patient prep area was not clean. Black mold/dirt on most of grout. [I did professional resort cleaning and can tell clean from dirty!] Looked like understaffing or some gaps in patient care. After I was fully prepped I was left alone with zero info. I was all hooked up to monitors and had IV port inserted. Bed rail was up. I had to use bathroom. No call button. Everyone was rushing by. After about 40 min I got someone's attention and was freed to use bathroom. When I returned no one was there so after abot 15 minutes of beeping I hooked myself up as best I vould to the monitors. Another wait and this time I caught the attention of another random staff person to tell them I needed to use the bathroom. After surgery I told nurse in recovery room about this. She said there was a problem during a procedure. The issue is not so much about the very long wait time but the lack of checking on me to notify me there was a delay and to not trap me in my bed alone hooked up with monitors and trapped in by rail but endure I can access bathroom as needed while waiting and give me at least some idea of likely wait tine, or if unsure, check back in, even if it this is via a volunteer and very brief. read more

I was admitted here in 2022, a nurse named Raquel falsified my temperature (high fever) to say it was a normal temperature in my records so that she could avoid giving me care. I ended up having acute leukemia and nearly died in the following days. Thank god I was transferred to UW Med where I received phenomenal state of the art care. In the days before being admitted I had a facial injury which resulted in bruising and cuts in my mouth that were very slow to heal because of the leukemia. I was having a hard time communicating due to this and was treated as if I was doing it intentionally to be a difficult patient. Any expression of my dissatisfaction was met with being ignored for hours on end while I was having difficulty breathing and my oxygen dropped to dangerous levels. My pain and fever were never adequately managed. This is a great place to go if you enjoy feeling powerless and receiving care that is substandard at best and deliberately malicious at worst. My 95 year old husband is in Skagit right now for his heart. I've never seen such friendly, knowledgeable and kind nurses and aides. They are always immediately on top of any problem and treat him with skilled care and respect. read more

Do. Not. Ever. Go. Here. I'll be honest I struggle with alcohol and they know this. I can joke that im a regular there. But they make fun of me. They don't check on you at all. They just over fill you up with meds or don't and forget to give you the meds you need. I've been yelled at, lied to by doctors, and you can ask for some water and they act duper nice and say sure and then you never receive it. This last time I will say I only had 3 NRs who actually would check in on me. If you speak up they shut you down and say you can just leave if you want. Some of the nurses will say they will be right back and they don't back for two hours. They made me feel bad about myself and threatened me. They also didn't follow protocol. Oh and I had a nurse illegally give me special k (ketamine) to take home. I kept it as proof. And I know some of the staff are on something. My friend used to work there and that's why she left. Trust me. It's worth it to go to bellingham, everett, swedish hospital.. anywhere but here. read more

Came in because my toilet bowl was full of blood for two days. My hemoglobin level was 5.1. Im squirting blood everytime I use the restroom. Lots of blood. They scheduled me for a colonoscopy after a number of mixups and miscommunications. Then they tell me I'm not bleeding at all and make me prove it after the procedure in the bathroom. The photo is of the toilet minutes after my procedure. Am I still bleeding?!? This place is full of incompetence. Now I'm getting my fourth blood transfusion and sent home. Wow thanks for doing not a god damn thing to save my life. Going home to bleed out I guess. Obviously the healthcare system is shit but this is incomprehensible, unexplainable and incompetence. Do not come here or send anyone you care about here or they'll probably end up ignored, dismissed and in worse shape. Now I had two pompous surgeons come in to explain to me that if they saw I was actually bleeding they would proceed to care. The toilet is not enough. The fact I've had to have four blood transfusions is not enough. Now they want to check me again like when I first came in. The nurse checked me and found blood immediately and sent me to the ER/ hospital I'm at now. He asked me what my expertise was in life insinuating that I'm just a simple commoner while he's a surgeon and knows so much more than me. If you ever have the misfortune to be a guest of the Skagit Valley Hospital Cardiac Ward you will have a good experience. Well, as good as possible since you obviously had a heart attack or something similar to be a guest. I found the staff to be pleasant and helpful, the accommodations to be better than I expected, and most surprising of all... the food was WAY better than expected. Patients have an actual menu to select their meal choices from. Now, there aren't a ton of available choices, but there are some to pick and choose from. I've been here for the last three days and had to order 6 meals. The meals are not gourmet by any means, but far above the quality normally attributed to hospitals. My only complaint was that I was restricted to Heart Healthy choices! Not because they were tasteless, far from it! Every meal I got tasted great. I already mentioned the staff was pleasant and helpful, but I want to say that everyone was friendly and polite. But then again, I made an effort to be polite and friendly with them. I was taught to obey the Golden Rule and doing so usually means I see the better side of people. Everyone from the maintenance and housekeeping staff to the nurses and nursing assistants to the doctors were awesome to deal with. If this place didn't drive their providers like damn racing around a track following the mechanical bunny thing then maybe it could be a decent place. Sadly due to idk inflated specialist salaries or massive increase in technology or equipment the providers are wound so tightly they let obvious easily fixed problems stump them due to overthinking and the pressure to have an instant answer to every query instead of maybe getting a refresher on some educational materials or journals. Why is it so many medical providers act like ever asking anyone for help somehow makes them a bad medical professional it's like they are all to afraid of looking stupid rather than achieving the best results for the patient. read more

My hospital stay from 6/21/24 to 6/25/24 was exceptional in all respects. From the CNAs to the MD to food service, the quality of care was first rate. I especially want to thank Dr. Goodman for going the extra mile in fulfilling my request for a skin biopsy. Although an earlier biopsy conducted by my dermatologist confirmed the presence of eczema, the biopsy performed by Dr. Goodman confirmed that the skin eruptions I had experienced during a recent illness were not related to eczema or dermatitis. This made me greatly relieved and now I can show the pathology report to my dermatologist for further interpretation. Gee where to start: The level of nurse quality, low, the surgical team of nurses and Dr's are excluded from this assessment Recovery: Pain management was given, but I reacted to it, extremely itchy, which they know, so instead of trying to give me something to relive it, they waited until I was all but scratching everywhere. Pain management after surgery should be intense, at least for the 1st 24hrs. I was given a light dose after the first night..which wasn't adequate, I was in so much pain, and should have been a priority with my care. The nurse overnight was helpful but could only do so much, if there are patients in need of pain relief, they should be given something no questions asked. Lastly, when I came out of surgery, after I was becoming more aware of things, it noticed/felt i had a split lip, swollen, and torn, bloody...no one said anything about it, I asked what happened, no one could tell me until i was being discharged..when I asked her, she said my doctor couldn't get my mouth block in, to keep my mouth open to do an endoscopy, and somehow hit my lip. I have had many surgeries, 20 at least, from shoulders to neck radical cancer treatment, never ever have I had anyone pop my lip and break it open, stuff happens i get it, but to not say anything!!??? Not good Noise Level: The noise around my room and in my room was absolutely TERRIBLE...slamming doors, slamming whatever in the rooms around me, the iv for liquids makes sounds continuously Ivs: I had 1 IV in my left arm, my right was open, it's the same arm the took my labs a couple of days before surgery. Typically there's a port connected to the iv to draw blood so the patient isn't poked over and over in the same area, not here, they use the same arm from where they drew blood before, soooo painful, so unnecessary. There is a standard for hospitals, should be clean, safe, easy communication, friendly staff, the best care for whatever that patient is having done, highest level of education for the staff, doctors, nurses, and the rest of the staff. Common sense is, after a surgery, should be in a quite environment, have a nurse and or doctor ready to help that patients be as comfortable as possible, there should not be high levels of pain..anticipate what will happen , depending on the purcedure, be ready. Like the reviewer below, I was given the wrong meds, denied food and water, mocked and degraded, and had my medical records falsified. I'm so sad that all the work I did to report this to multiple authorities did not motivate them to change anything. Nurses Deb Connor and Sophie Kasteliak should have their licenses revoked. I tried to kill myself and I left there feeling like I had even more reason to die. I worry other suicidal members of my community may succeed solely because of the torment they received when seeking treatment. read more

If I could give them a negative score, I would. Their medical care and administrative operations are subpar. My son (24 years old) was transported there by ambulance in June after an eBike accident (without a helmet). They took his blood pressure and sat him in a wheelchair in the lobby for 7+ hours until we left and i took him elsewhere for treatment. I have not received statements for services from bloodwork and a visit for an injury (all occurring since January of this year). I received a notification to be turned over for collection (by snail mail), so I requested an itemized statement (which they mailed me) so I could compare it to my insurance documents. I paid the bill. Now I've received another notification for collections and when I called they informed me they emailed my statements to me (which I never received...did a search in my emails, including spam and nothing there). Again, I requested an itemized statement (which they are sending my by mail), but they says there's a third account in arrears. Turns out they don't set up patient accounts, they bill by visit (very inefficient)! read more

My initial stay of 5 days I was practically forced to leave by the Medical team after learning that I was not given anti nausea medication for two days by a Doctor because he ordered it incorrectly. I only discovered this once Joy, RN brought it to my attention. I suffered at home for a few days until having to return and exchange words with the ER Doctor on shift that day who threatened me with an alternate medication in a suppository form. I was finally being treated by my RN with the new care plan until my ultrasound came back and rather than say anything to me, an extremely rude Nurse Named Janelle started ripping out my IV and smashed my foot with the bed rail, tell me to "look out my friend" as if it were my fault. Janelle also started manhandling my BP cuff as I was trying to position out of the hall 4 bed. I asked her to not to be roughing my recently injured left side to which she replied better be careful with that! Turns out she was in charge, no wonder this ED has gone to pot. My nurse gave me the name of Janelle's supervisor as Molly Lewis so let's see how this transpires shall we. I am not a difficult patient but I will advocate for myself and that does not go over well with SVH. conversation with Molly Lewis to follow. Well people no conversation with Molly Lewis as she hid behind the on the other line excuse and her assistant was busy as well. The BoD. Chief Medical Officer is next call/ letter. read more

My sister was there for two weeks. They did a good job taking care of her. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Facility is clean. My only complaint is that the toilet paper in the public restrooms was installed incorrectly and rolled under instead of over. read more

No complaints from us. My daughter got great care. We happened to be in at a time there was no wait. They got her right in and all the tests she needed. Nurses and doctor were amazing. Only complaint is prescription we got sent home with was not fillable because it was written wrong and I wasn't able to get her another one. But overall we would come back if we had to. If I couldn't rate negative, I would rate negative as much as I could. This is horrible and hasn't changed in 15 years. Started with my dad when I took him to the ER because of tightness in chest, chest pain and radiating to his left arm. All call signs for a Heart attack. They kept jerking him around and finally after about an hour of sitting in the waiting room I stood up and said It looks like I am going to have to contact medical control about this office and how they triage things because my dad is having a heart attack and they won't get him into a bed. Well guess what. He was put in a bed in less than 10 minutes after that. Here it is 15 years later and now my mom is having health issues, and she is in CONSTANT Afib and they refuse to give her anything to take her out of Afib. They refuse to tell her or I ANYTHING about what is going on or how they plan to fix it. She has also been diagnosed with Pneumonia. Get this she IS NOT diabetic, but they insist on giving her insulin for a condition she DOESN"T have but they WON'T give her the Depression medication that she NEEDS. I gave them and COMPLETE and CURRENT list of her meds and they aren't even following it. I mean come on. How hard is it to give here what she needs and NOT give here what she doesn't need. She asks a question about her situation and the DR's, Nurses and everyone else employed there avoid the question like a politician up for reelection. Nor I or my Mom, the patient can get ANY answer from them about her condition or what they are trying to do to correct it. I am now understanding their rating of 2.3 stars out of 5. I am currently looking up a way to get everyone involved with her case in front of a review board on their actions and/or lack there of in certain circumstances. I just don't get it. She is currently admitted into the hospital and they don't seem to be wanting to do anything but treat symptoms instead of the actual CAUSE of the symptoms. read more

On 8/8 /24 I was scheduled to have bladder cancer surgery. Love my Doctor I went to the pre surgery appointment two weeks before and went over all of the medications I was taking we even removed 2 I was no longer taking Everything went smooth. Two days before my surgery a pre op nurse called. We went over things and then I was informed because THEY did not tell me to not take my Trulictu shot and would not do the surgery because I'd taken my dose of Trulicity for the week last Thursday. 5 days ago and they said I needed a week of no trulicity. I was upset asked the nurse if she knew I was mad and I hung up because I did not want to chew her out. This was on Friday So on Monday I called and explained to the receptionist. She had the same nurse call me. As we spoke. She said I could not have surgery till 11/5 I was upset and dropped an F bomb at the situation not at the nurse. I apologized but she started in on this attitude so I hung up on nurse Ratchit. I called the hospitals public relations and spoke with Katie. She listened to my problem and said she understood and would call me back. In about 20 minutes she called back with a spot on the surgery schedule on Thursday. Katie is an angel. She spoke with them and got me on the schedule in two days not a month. I'm urinating blood and urination hurts let alone the back pain I'm in. Katie had the understanding and empathy to find a solution. Thank you Katie. Solved an issue that I found unacceptable I'm not waiting a month in pain to have surgery. Thank you again Katie You're an angel. I was going to go to a different hospital but Katie straighten things out. I guess you should always advocate for your own health read more

The Infectious Disease Department is a joke! Don't waste your time going. I went in because I had a Western Blot Test done that came back with bands positive for Lyme Disease and the doctor told me he didn't think I had Lyme Disease. He told me that he would consult his constituents and get back to me early the next week with a plan for care as I was experiencing some debilitating symptoms. 3 weeks went by with no phone call or message. I called once and left a message in MyChart that was left unanswered. I called back to see if I could see another doctor in the clinic and was told that it was unethical to do that. They told me they sent to Lab Corp which is true, but they bill you for Lab Corp's work, at much inflated prices. LOVED the doctor I saw but will never allow them to do labs again. I was admitted to this hospital for a simple "in & out" (laproscopy) procedure to remove a gland. The Surgeon removed the gland & then my spleen! She then lied as to why it was removed & found a pathologist (crony) to agree with her! A bunch of crooks! Run!!!!!! read more

What is a 5-star hospital anyway? I've never had a hospital stay myself (knock and praise) but I've been to many hospitals and my experience at Skagit Valley Hospital was extremely positive on every score. The location is convenient. Ground level parking is ample so there's no foul-mood-high-blood-pressure-creating multi-level color-coded garage parking madness to deal with. I observed the doctors, nurses and care team to be on it. The peace and serenity of private rooms is monumentally important to me from a recovery standpoint. There are hide-a-beds for overnight an family member or friend. There are ample visiting areas inside and pretty outdoor courtyard areas for visiting and waiting. I like the piano in the common area and like it even more when it's being played. Whidbey Coffee has a set-up along the corridor with espresso, very nice quality pastries and salads. As of this writing I'd SERIOUSLY consider a stay at Skagit Valley Hospital over Evergreen or Overlake or Highline or Swedish or Providence or Harborview or Virginia Mason or Group Health or Valley or even Northwest. read more

Any other hospital I've been to would give me some pain killer and get me up on my feet, give me a diet to follow. I'm just laying here with nothing. Woah where do I begin? First of all, I have been a mom for 11 years and have only been to the ER once for an injury. When my 1 year old was coughing, wheezing and struggling to breathe we rushed him to our closest ER. Unfortunately, it was this place. Front desk lady was extremely rude and dismissive. After 45 minutes in the waiting room (mind you it was completely empty) I asked how much longer, she said she would check... finally a nurse comes out to grab us. Takes vitals and a history. Doctor comes in and listens to my sons lungs and says they're fine and he recommends a suction treatment. He literally has no mucus build up or runny nose. Me and everyone else in the room were confused. Suction therapy dude comes in and listens and watches him for a good amount of time, says he doesn't need to be sectioned. Test results for viruses come back after 2 hours... all negative, thankfully. Doctor says there's nothing they can do, he probably has a cold. Seriously?? Never have I seen a cough and wheezing be the first symptom of a cold. I ask if I could get am inhaler, he says no. He prefers his pediatrician see him for that. Ok? It's a Saturday morning... As we are getting discharged my son is crying, wheezing and coughing. The nurse is staring at him, looking worried. I confirm with her that the doctor sees this as "a cold" and this is normal?! She says "yep! Follow up with your pediatrician on Monday" Best part is, the after visit summary says I should suction his nose ‍ Childrens hospital is the only place I will go from here on out. read more

My mom is a patient in ICU. Her care seems good and it's round-the-clock. Very clean facility, although I'm not a fan of carpet in a hospital as it's not easy to clean, and can smell. There's carpet in the hallways where most other hospitals have floors like vinyl which is much more sanitary. The staff are friendly and polite and ready to help. I found parking to be easy and the hospital is easy to navigate. I was here on a Saturday afternoon and the cafeteria and gift store were closed, which I found odd, as it's the middle of the weekend day when visitors usually arrive. Mom likes her care, so that makes us all feel better. read more

I had a colonoscopy yesterday much to the excruciating amusement of all my friends. Have to keep them entertained at all costs. Of course, it's not anticipated to be a wonderful experience. Yep, I did it once before so once tried twice shy right? I want to say that this was a very well-orchestrated event. It was seamless from start to finish, comfortably done and in a very happy environment (no, not the anesthetic). This is medicinal practice working at it's best.
