Lunch and dinner entrees, sides, and soups

If you ever have the misfortune to be a guest of the Skagit Valley Hospital Cardiac Ward you will have a good experience. Well, as good as possible since you obviously had a heart attack or something similar to be a guest. I found the staff to be pleasant and helpful, the accommodations to be better than I expected, and most surprising of all... the food was WAY better than expected. Patients have an actual menu to select their meal choices from. Now, there aren't a ton of available choices, but there are some to pick and choose from. I've been here for the last three days and had to order 6 meals. The meals are not gourmet by any means, but far above the quality normally attributed to hospitals. My only complaint was that I was restricted to Heart Healthy choices! Not because they were tasteless, far from it! Every meal I got tasted great. I already mentioned the staff was pleasant and helpful, but I want to say that everyone was friendly and polite. But then again, I made an effort to be polite and friendly with them. I was taught to obey the Golden Rule and doing so usually means I see the better side of people. Everyone from the maintenance and housekeeping staff to the nurses and nursing assistants to the doctors were awesome to deal with. I feel lucky that if I had to be admitted to a cardiac ward that I was admitted to the Skagit Valley Hospital Cardiac Ward.

They will leave you to sit in your waste and develop bed sores. This is a hospital you go to get worse at.

They have done an incredible amount of tests to determine what is ailing me. They saved my life. I had a doctor who shall remain nameless, but is from Anacortes Wa who wouldn't help me get oxygen when I got out of the hospital. Thank God for UGH/peace health professionals. I contacted them and they loaned me 2 big bottles and the tubing etc. Not many hospitals would do that. Like I said, amazing!

They did some tests and told us that he had RSV and that it was treatable and he would more than likely go home that night. He was being treated in a bed in the hallway and was sharing time on the monitors with another patient, so the staff was not continually monitoring him. I feel like they underestimated the severity of his condition and did not give him the attention that he needed because they were understaffed and too busy. Within 3-4 hours of being diagnosed with RSV and not doing anything to help or treat his symptoms, my dad went into cardiac arrest and died. The doctor admitted to us at the time of his death that they exhausted all of their resources of epinephrin and could not save him. I feel like they missed the signs of what was coming and are too blame for his death. I will never agree to be taken to United General, for any reason, if I were to have a medical emergency. I feel like this place should be shut down if they can't provide proper care and have enough staff/ equipment/drugs.

Thankfully, after testing it was determined I had not suffered a cardiac event, but the symptom I had was the offshoot of an upper respiratory virus. I genuinely appreciated the staff's care and the thorough process they went through to be sure there was nothing more serious going on. It was well worth it for my piece of mind at the very minimum. These are kind, compassionate professionals throughout the house, and they explained everything in lay person terms I could understand. Skagit County is so fortunate to have Island Hospital!!!

I've had one Emergency Department visit, and felt that the attention and care were appropriate. For my chronic conditions, I think they're deficient and inadequate, and their approach is limited; I would not call the approach offered to me "health care" but rather "symptom management." (Some writers call this "a pill for an ill.") Health doesn't come from a statin or ACE inhibitors or beta blockers or steroids; it comes from many lifestyle steps we can take to fundamentally improve the overall condition of our bodies and our real health. None of this has ever been offered to me at this place. I've also talked to a number of women being managed for osteoporosis. The standard knee-jerk approach of vitamin D, calcium, weight-bearing exercise and bisphosphonate medication is woefully incomplete and leaves out many actions, dietary steps and supplements that are essential for bone health. Whatever your condition is, look it up under the "Integrative Medicine" or "Functional Medicine" or "Naturopathic Medicine" approaches and see how much more you can do to really support your health. For me, at least, speaking just about my own experience here, I call their long-term approaches to my conditions "Dys-Functional Medicine"

This time, I have mixed feeling. Super negative and super positive…read more It started super negative. I have known this hospital has tricky layout and made me confused...and 8 years later, still tricky and more worse. The ceiling is kinda low and I felt like being in a maze. I wanted to have an ultrasound over breast but they kept telling me mammogram first. I didn't understand why but as it's their protocol, I had to follow. So I checked in mammogram test but until the technician got suspicious about I was in the another mammogram test room and I was another "Mari" (there was another same name patient!), I had no escorted by receptionist. The technician for mammogram was super kind and friendly. After we finished testing, she asked me if I had time. Of course! Then she set up ultrasound test right away. That was wow. Because I didn't have family doctor's requisition either. Both test results had nothing suspicious. I was very happy that my long day ended positively.
