As a current skater, I think that it is important for people to know that there are skate patrollers on the ice.
I do not know anyone that currently patrols, but know that patrollers are bilingual and have extensive first aid and CPR training. Qualifications have become more strict recently.
But patrollers do not only help with first aid. They can also help find children and answer any questions that you have about the canal or directions. They also keep a surprising number of pets, bikes and other interesting things off the canal as they can be potential hazards.
