One of my most fondest memories as a child was rollerskating. So, I decided to revisit those memories and found this indoor skating rink. After a 10+ year hiatus, it was a bit challenging and a little unnerving. However, the crowd size was perfect, since I hadn't skated in years. The skating rink itself was very spacious, which allowed skaters to roam freely. The colorful strobe lights affixed to the ceiling reflected off the floor creating a spectacular visual. This coupled with the music and wall decor made for a very enjoyable experience. I did find the interior of the venue a bit outdated and in need of a serious makeover. The staff was very friendly, welcoming, and projected a professional demeanor when dealing with customers. Outside food & drink is prohibited but there is a snack bar inside where you can purchase food items. Arcade type games and other entertainment equipment is also available. So, if you're looking for a low impact, high energy, fun filled cardio related activity you might want to give this spot a try.

AVOID!! Do not go! This should be a place for families to come and have fun, but it is absolutely not. First you are overcharged for everything. Coming here was an overall crappy experience. And of course, there are no refunds. As a parent not skating, just watching my child, I was charged $15. I would've been OK if I was at least able to sit in a building that had AC. it is 111° outside and there is no air conditioning in the skating area. It is humid and disgustingly hot. I'm here right now dying of heat exhaustion as I write this. To make matters worse they don't allow you to bring any of your water into the building and charge three dollars for TMT (Floyd Mayweather's Brand) bottled water. Additionally, soda fountain machine doesn't work and you have a paid three dollars for a can of soda. This experience was such a rip off. How does a business charge all this money and yet it doesn't even have proper ventilation or air-conditioning? No working drink machines? The kids are hot, thirsty, and miserable. Literally $30 in down the drain.

Best skating rink I've ever been to, and it's super safe! They have a metal detector at the entrance and armed security, which makes me feel even safer that are patrolling inside and outside.

Double R dripped out as usual.

Do they have crutches for kids to skate?

No and I am glad they don't,,, Learn how to Balance yourself the Old Fashioned way, or wear Protective Gear if you are afraid of falling....and if you can , take skate lessons...

    How much do they charge?

15.00 with skates, 20.00 to rent skates

    Do they do adult night?

Do you guys mount customs i have a pair of vans on at the moment but grew outta them wanted to get some new shoes mounted?

    We do not mount skates

Since floyd owns it does it still close at 5 on sundays for 18 and under and are the prices the same?

It's not as good as it used to be. Its not kid friendly and the music now played is nearly exclusively very hard street language foul language profanity laced stuff Under 18 the music is the same. They have lost the classic roller skate vibe.

Are the skates old or New?

    Used. 80s style.

Is this an appropriate place to bring my 3 year old? do they even have skates for his size?

    Yes!

Looking for something fun, new, exciting, and interesting this winter. Let's gather together and go ice skating . The fee rental is insane with a great value of $32 for skating and it includes your skate rental. You should book definitely online especially with the holiday season coming. We we able to get a "chance" booking for the family . If you want to rent a cabana for you and yours they offer those too. It's a great little getaway from the desert of Vegas with ice. Now that you have ice skated you are ready for something warm and special to drink. Off to the bar . They offer a menu for hot cocoa with all the best of joys. Then for those that need some hot chocolate add some Baileys for basic fun. They make some signature drinks that need to be tried too. The simple sodas are great too. Everyone is here we have more laps to do on the ice. We need to get back out and play. Come and meet us . Don't forget to stand by the fire pit if you get chilled. Pathetic, I know, but this girl never learned how to roller skate so I was like a fish outta water. As I clung to my husband and the the edges of the rink for support and stability, I still found myself having an amazingly good time at Down & Derby Roller Skating Disco. This Roller Skating Disco is held at Gold Spike every third Wednesday of the month. There is no cover and roller skate rentals are free. All you have to do is sign a waiver and hand over your ID in exchange for some skates. It's basically FREE fun. Roller disco attire is encouraged, and plenty of people took this to heart. People-watching kept me plenty occupied. The music was surprisingly good. The outdoor DJ mostly played 90s hip-hop like Easy-E's "Cruisin' down the street in my '64" and Biggie Small's "Hypnotize". Got me right in the nostalgic feels. Roller Disco starts at 9PM - this is not the time to show up fashionably late. The line to get skates gets insane by 10:30PM. We arrived at 9:20 and only had two people in front of us. :) Alcohol prices are average for downtown. Bartenders give all alcohol out in plastic cups with a cap and straw for your skating convenience. A small sized draft beer was $4.50. One of my friends said they paid $8-9 for a simple cocktail. All in all, Gold Spike's Down & Derby Roller Skating Disco is as good as it gets! Even better if you legit know how to roller skate lol. It doesn't get any better for a cheap, fun night out on the town on a Wednesday night. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2015: #242

If you don't understand how a bout works you may have a little trouble. What I liked about it was the enthusiasm from the crowd and a couple of times the rowdiness of the skaters. There was a lot of lulls and not a lot of action so that makes it hard to want to pay attention to. What I didn't like was it was kind of hard to see especially if you were sitting down in the rows of chairs...so I actually chose to sit on the floor right in front of the rink which I wasn't crazy about. They play music the whole time which is cool but then the announcers try to talk and give you updates on the game and it's really hard to hear or understand what's actually being said. They serve beer drinks and even snacks but my suggestion is eat or get drunk before you go because they charge an arm and a leg inside the ballroom. You can't bring outside food or drinks in so if you go to the casino you can get a beer for two dollars Or stay in the ballroom and pay 7 to 10. It's not rocket science. I'll have to say it is fun to meet up with some friends hang out laugh and talk while watching something sort out on the side. If you were ever lucky enough to catch RollerGames (1989-1990) on late night TV (as I did as a preteen), you know exactly what this game is all about and you can easily get hooked! On Saturday, April 25th, the Husband and I experienced our first real live roller derby match at the Las Vegas Roller Hockey Rink. It's located in the corner of the Commercial Center and can easily be missed, but it's there! Doors opened at 7 pm and the bout begins at 8 pm. You can choose to sit inside the rink on folding chairs, along the side on the floor, or safely behind the glass. Seats are up close and personal and they do promise the possibility of having a rollergirl in your lap! After the game, you can get autographs from your favorite players too! (There's a snack bar available too.) If you don't understand the game, they give out a handy little program with all the details, but the MC will also explain the game as it goes on. There's even a mini duel right at the beginning to give you a visual of what's about to happen. That evening, they played against the Arizona Roller Derby Tent City Terrors. Sure, we lost but it was a very exciting game and you never really knew who was going to win! Advanced tickets are $7 (although we tried purchasing such tickets the night before, but no luck), and $10 at the door. Kids under 10 and EMTs are free! This is definitely an athletic and family-friendly event, although a few of the players' names may be a bit suggestive. It looks like they have two local teams - The Notorious VIPs and the Tommy Gun Terrors. But when they play against another city, they combine into the Sin City Rollergirls. (Correct me if I'm wrong please!) The team colors of the Sin City Rollergirls are orange and black. We're definitely looking forward to catching at least one more game before their season ends!
